Variable Fighter Master File VF-25 Messiah
sketchley replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Movies and TV Series
@ yui1107: NO PICTURES of the book. It's JUST been released. Thank you. -
Me, too. Hopefully the next (last! ) episode will provide some hints to the origins of the drones. Otherwise, characterization wise, it was a good episode, with the mystery of "Pittsburgh" in the middle parts and the drones on search-and-destroy adding interesting dimensions to it. I think what I've found most interesting (in the sense of observing the series, not in-universe events) is that the pace of the past few episodes has increased to a level approaching that of SG1 & SGA. A good example is the survivors being returned to the colony planet off screen. Earlier in season II, and pretty much any time in season I, the show would've spent the good chunk of an episode about that. It's truly a shame that just as the show finds itself, it's over. Ah well, at least we got to see the stargate in action one more time. Hopefully the last episode will see them using the 'gate, too.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-25 Messiah
sketchley replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Movies and TV Series
VFMF VF-25 Messiah contents roundup Some of the images are dark (a problem consistent with earlier publications in the series). Nevertheless, the conclusion: this book is a MUST have for VF Mechanic Fans. The book's setting: published in-universe in 2065.05. Number of pages per section in (): (12) photo files (12) development: a bit on the YF-24, most on the "VF-24 Evolution", along with the YF-25, YF-29, and VF-27. (6) nose block: VFC, cockpit & EX Gear (1) body (1) wing (1) empennage: vertical stabilizers, which also have BLC systems (2.5) intake/engine nacelles (0.5) nozzle (1) vernier thrusters (1) landing gear (2) monitor turret/head: VF-25A/G, C, C-II, E, F, S, YF-25, RVF-25 (2) cutaway (5) control systems: ARIEL II, etc. (3) EX-Gear (1) cockpit systems (1) pilot suits (1) ISC, electronic systems, stealth systems, FAM (think like RAM) (3) engines: VF-25's thrust reversers explained! (1) fuel system (4) navigation (fold, etc) & radar, etc. systems ( weapons and stores: GU-17A, AMM-101, AMM-201 Asp, AMM-111/211/311/LR-SARROW, PaCSW-1G Super High Manoeuvre Missile (ParaCruising Stealth Weapon System), MPBMS (Multi-Purpose Bomb/Mine System), LPP-14A/LPP-14FX (like the VF-19's), MDE, RMS-7) (4.5) F.A.S.T. Pack (2.5) Armour (1) Tornado Pack ( VF variations: VF-25A, B/D, C, E, F, G, S, VJ Vajra-Agressor, RVF-25 Mainstay, VRF-25E Recon Messiah, VC-25V VIP Messiah, VEF-25E Warning Messiah, VF-25WR Wyvern-2, VF-25WR Wyvern (6) GERWALK & Battroid (6) story: Lost Children ( generations of VF: VF-11~17, 19~22, 171+ ( story: Sword Dancer (2) caution and modex (6) squadron markings The book doesn't have a production block breakdown (the next one? Along with Armour Packs, etc.?), but I belief some numbers can be gleaned from the squadron markings section. If I understand the numbers, it's each block's production number (stressing that the number given is not the last produced in the block). Production block number in (), production number VF indicated following (): (3) 201 (4) 001 (5) 801 (6) 1,123 (7) 200 ( 200 Some others that don't have a block number are: VF-25C/El: 502 VF-25F/Sg: 211 So... given the range of numbers, one could surmise that the VF-25 is a successful design, as within 6 years of it's introduction, there have been about 3,000 made. Take that VF-19! -
Variable Fighter Master File VF-25 Messiah
sketchley replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Movies and TV Series
Me, too. Though, in thinking about it (note: my opinion based on observation, not something formed from reading the text), I feel that it may just be something to speed the turnaround time when the fighter returns to the ship for rearming. Sure, the smaller magazine size facilitates the capability of mounting spares on the back of the shield (a la the VF-19), but I feel that it's more akin to the quickly exchangeable weapons on the fronts of the dorsal Super Parts and FAST Packs (a la the VF-1). -

Yes, and nothing spotted on a cursory glance. As with previous books in the series, there are a bunch of new weapons - some with familiar names and shapes from earlier books. There are also images of the alternative Super Pack weapon parts - and a missile load for the micro-missile launcher: 90! I think the most eyebrow raising is the alternative variant: VF-25WR Wyvern-2, a derivative of the VF-25WR Wyvern that appeared in Macross Ace's Mechatronics. Gah! Do we really need a propeller driven VF-25?! -
Yup. Finished a few more (first two pages sans novelization, YF-29-5, the two characters, the background introductory paragraphs of the YF-27-5 build and VF-11 pages). Would like to do a bit more, but it's the last few days of my sister's trip to Japan, so doing A LOT of sightseeing, and picked up both the VFMF:VF-25 and Macross F Wings of Goodbye Official Complete Book yesterday. First book is a whole lot of awesome, and the second book is a must. IT'S GOT STATS on the major mecha. But that'll all be mentioned in a different (new?) thread.

Good episode, with something for everyone to do, excellent pathos, and both positive and melancholic fates illustrated for the crew. Because SGU has been cancelled (boo-hiss), I'm glad that we are getting this "alternate future" for the characters - as in a lot of ways, it does provide closure to them. Maybe the next episode(s) will resolve the alternative timeline descendants/doctor disease story arc. Maybe. Oh - mechaninac: this story arc isn't the first time in the SG universe that a time paradox has been created. SG1 had the SG1 team sending themselves a note from the future that after reading it would've prevented them from sending the note. SGA had Sheppard sent to the distant future, and McKay created a holographic self to help him, but upon Sheppard's return from the future, McKay didn't work to create a holographic self to help Sheppard in the future... SGU had the team go to a planet with nasty bugs, get killed and their Kino recordings viewed by a second timeline who went to the planet and also got killed who's Kino recordings were viewed by a third timeline who didn't get killed and leave a Kino for the 2nd or 3rd to find...

I don't think they were added because of thrust problems. If memory serves, they were added for power generation. Anyhow, my opinion on why they're not on the YF-27-5 is because they wanted to keep that aspect of the design secret from everyone else.

Frameout's blog has some sweet alternative views of the YF-25-5: http://frameout.blog67.fc2.com/blog-entry-340.html The first and last images are of a larger size then what they appear as in the blog (in Firefox, if you right-click + view image).

No. This is how Tenjin Hidetaka envisioned the YF-27-5 entrant in the Vanquish races. We have yet to be shown what the YF-27 is supposed to look like. Though, given how closely the YF-25 looks to the VF-25, it's fairly safe to say that the YF-27 looks fairly similar to the VF-27. No. They are how the modellers could represent what Tenjin Hidetaka envisioned the customized VFs that enter the Vanquish races to be. To the best of our knowledge, they are all official.

Graham, you beat me to it! (latest issue content) The story takes place about a year before MF. Numerous other official setting resources have stated that the Galaxy Fleet made it known that they were developing the YF-27, but because it was still in the experimental phase (YF), not many other fleets paid much attention to it. The VF-27, on the other hand, was completed in secret, and they never told anyone else that they had finished the design. Thus, the VF-27 was a complete surprise. Also, it should be added that the YF-27 that appears in this latest instalment of MtR, is quite different from the VF-27. The most obvious differences are no wing engines, a wing mounting point for the gun pod, and what looks like a recon or data pod on the opposite wing joint (wing joint used for lack of better term at the time of writing).

Completed: Mechanic: SDFM UN 08a: MBR-04-Mk VI Tomahawk http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2710.msg41934#msg41934 I am a bit surprised at how much content from the Hobby Hand Book is used in the MC article - especially given that Technology 02b Destroid (development, etc.) gave the impression that the development history of the Destroids was completely rewritten. Maybe it was just the Earth Trekkers that got written out?

He did say that it has the "DNA" of an alien movie. (I think that was the key phrase). Is it an alternate telling of the origin? Is it a stealth-alien movie? Time will tell, but I think it's the former, because Ridley Scott is a cool director, and he won't go rewriting alien history - especially because he made that first movie! -
... I thought my translation of it or comments on it stated that there are 2 scratch-built VF-9's (Fighter and GERWALK)? (Though, that may be one of the things I intended to post but didn't get around to because RL got real busy).

That's right - I'd completely forgotten about all the comedy gold in that episode. "Sim City?" "Sim Earth!" and the classic, "it's a font."

He's credited as an adviser in all three books, and has a writing credit in the VF-19 book (p014-029).

Well, given how large a super volcanoes eruption is, it's highly likely that the gate was knocked over and buried. As has been seen many times previously, if the event horizon cannot form, a stargate link cannot be made. So, it may simply be that (or that the gate was deliberately blocked to prevent people from returning to the planet). Anyhow, I was thinking that the episode provides a nice what-if bookend to the series. What if Destiny continued and they had to land somewhere? In a way, this episode is akin to SG1's "Unending".

"It's all in the eye of the beholder" or something like that. (In the end, it's frustrating - as our own personal views of Macross include all these things, but when someone asks a question, we have to give the official setting answer. >.< Just like these chest guns. I'm inclined to believe that they are duplicate REB-23 laser guns, but I can't state authoritatively that they are.) Thanks Seto for answering Renato's question. Agreed. I'm of the mind that if "the" creator had a role in the production of the book, it should be part of the official setting. Though, the writers/editors may just be covering themselves if something in the book is totally inconsistent with the established official setting. EDIT: auto combining of posts leads to bad post formatting.

I don't like Klan, but man, that's a hot picture. Anyhow, I spotted a used one in their Grand Chaos store last week, and the resale price was brutally high. If any of our MW members are visiting Japan in the near future and are interested in one, skip the used stores, and buy it first run!
-
Nah. The end result of that discussion was: despite how cool that book is, the book itself states that it's not part of the official setting. So, back to square one.
