Man of Steel - Superman movie has a director
Kanedas Bike replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's certainly not a bad Superman film (and I still standby my .02 that it's the best Superman film made to date). I agree that Superman didn't act very traditionally Superman-like with how the final act of the film was handled and the events in Metropolis. They also show that it was only a relatively small section of the city impacted by the World Engine and that the vast majority of the city was still intact - this during the final confrontation between Superman and Zod. Traditional Superman would have had him go all out to minimize the collateral damage and death-toll vs. this depiction that showed a Superman not entirely attached to humanity and saving people only when/if it was convenient during the course of whatever engagement he was currently involved in. For me two things to consider; The comic source material this movie was based off of, I believe that there are Superman stories in comics that have him very much detached from humanity and not Mr. American as apple pie. If the consequences (whatever that looks like) are addressed with perhaps Superman working to gain the worlds trust and/or how the world has reacted to his presence (embraced, rejected, ambivalence, etc.) post Man of Steel. It's a good debate and again some criticism very much due, some not so much. -b.- 442 replies

That would have been a great idea if they hadn't made him the main, or fixed, point in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As it seems now the whole premise of the show is how regular humans deal with extraordinary events and threats and . Additionally there's no one on the show that could step into his role as leader and mentor. -b.

Man of Steel - Superman movie has a director

Despite some very valid criticism, and some not-so-much IMHO this is still the best Superman movie ever made. I never was a fan of the early films, even as a child I could never shake that "Superman is corny" vibe they gave me. I won't comment on Superman Returns. Do I think they pushed the story a little too far in a "dark" direction? Sure. I think they could try to rectify some of the absurdity of 1/2 of Metropolis getting destroyed and all of the casualties that went along with it by showing Superman in the next film as trying to atone for all of the destruction he caused and/or did not prevent (in the "typical" Superman fashion). But they'd have to do a good job of not making him emo, just that he acknowledges the full extent of what took place and him doing something to try and earn humanities trust and admiration, something they didn't really do at all in Man of Steel. That said I can't wait to see the conversations that take place once pictures, footage, trailers and the actual next Superman movie comes out. -b.- 442 replies

Personally I'm good with whats included for the price. Do I lament the days of being able to pay $ 70 Yamato YF-19's? Sure, but I don't lament the product that was produced and I'm realistic when it comes to understanding the cost associated with producing these items. It also helps that I haven't had any real problems with any of my purchases outside of some yellowing (mostly all v1 Bandai VF-25s) and the broken shoulder issue from the first run of Yamato v2 1/60 VF-1's so I don't feel as if I'm being "ripped off" when I spend MY money. -b.

Terminator 5/Terminator: Genisys, opening July 1, 2015
Kanedas Bike replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well maybe they'll pull an alternate timeline a la the Star Trek reboot. That way the die-hards that want the first (4) Terminator flicks to be cannon can have their wish along with those that would like for them to just wipe the board clean and start over. And honestly, beyond Terminator 2 and bits and pieces from Rise of the Machines and Salvation I wish they would just start over OR act like the last two (and that damn TV show) never happened. -b.- 508 replies

Ok, 2nd trailer does make the movie look like it'll be fun. I'll give it a go in theaters when it comes out. FYI for those interested the Play Arts Kai figures are up and available for pre-order on AmiAmi now. -b.

Appreciate the help with this, the only thing I'd add, or at least what I had to do for my Alto VF-29 is first loosen the screws, then re-tighten them. This worked for both the ridiculously loose hips and floppy shoulders. I've got it in a fairly dynamic Battroid pose now and I'll check on the joint tightness in a few days or so. WM, it seems like you're not having the best of luck with your purchases. All of my 25-A's have been double-taped, none that I noticed as triple taped and the one copy I opened was about as close to perfect as you can get and noticeably "better" than the Renewal F, G and RVF. I'll leave tips about disassembling and customization to those that know about it, but I'm sorry and surprised to hear about the issues you have right out of the box. -b.

Not related to the lack of tampo printing or accessories or anything like that, but I've just reduced my pre-order amount from (3) to (2). If possible I try to order at least (2) of any items I like, but I must have gotten pre-order happy when I put (3) of these things in my cart. I'd also like a re-issue of a Max VF-1S along with a Super Ostrich, Elint and VF-1D since I sold my only Elint, my extra Max and never did get around to buying the Super O or 1D. But beggars recently placed on a budget can't be choosey. -b.

As long as the makers are able to strike a nice compromise between producing films that draw in a new audience (i.e. kids) and keep adult sensibilities so that old-timers like Duke are happy then I'll be glad to support the new films. But if they venture too far into Ewok/Jar-Jar land or too far into Lost/Alias-ville then I'll pass. Fingers crossed as I'd like to see some really good Star Wars movies come out of the sale to Disney and the passing of directorial duties to persons other than Sir George. -b.

For me, the wish(es) are broken down as such; Pie-in-the-sky wish: SDP-1 Stampede Valkyrie More realistic wish: both of the Minmay Guard schemes or other Hasegawa custom schemes on a VF-1 beyond the 30th Anniversary release And for sure that Arcadia uses a strategy that allows them to remain profitable/stay in business. -b.

How Do You Find Space for Your Toy Boxes?
Kanedas Bike replied to funkymonkeyjavajunky's topic in Toys
Always had room in my apartment for my various items (2 bed/2 bath - just me meant I had lots of closet space). For sure the Macross items constitute the bulk of my collection, and of that Yamato the bulk of that. It was a true PITA to store them all. Now that I've moved back home I keep them all in their respective moving boxes in the basement. And if/when the collection grows long-in-the-tooth, I just sell of a few items. But I keep the boxes, just never seemed "right" to get rid of them, especially if they weren't being displayed I want something safe to store the items in vs. random boxes/containers or bins to keep them in. -b. -

X-Men: Days of Future Past, in theaters May 23, 2014

Agree with Wolverine working best as a very strong supporting character, but with Hugh Jackman being a bigger star/box office draw than "that dude" that played Cyclops + Wolverine as a huge fan favorite just dictate that Wolvy be the center of the X-Movie universe. And epic music makes epic movie epic. At least that's the theory. -b.- 329 replies

The MW Automotive Thread 5.0 GT
Kanedas Bike replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, I actually really wanted those wheels and made a point to make sure they were on the car I bought, but the first time a friend of mine told me she thought they looked like sunflowers I almost lost it. So I just try really hard to remember why I liked them to begin with and I just ignore the fact that they look like flowers to some folks. Post some pics. Hopefully you/the dealer can find the source of that rattle and have it taken care of. I would swear by Lexus and I always smile a bit whenever I see a '14 IS on the road because even though I love my SHO that really was my first choice. -b.
