Okay, if we had Variable Fighters in real life....
pengbuzz replied to cheemingwan1234's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah; add in that the arms and legs all have to move at varying speeds at different points, and that's a lot of torque. It can severely punish whatever material you've built the components out of, like Torquemada torturing heretics in the Inquisition.- 14 replies

Apartment-wise: doing my best, but with a very limited income, rents into the "are you insane" regions and everyone scrambling for any section-8, subsidized and other kind of public housing here, we're going to need some divine intervention on that one. Staying isn't an option due to the fact that if this is how they are now, they will be that much worse under their total rule. As for the ship: I didn't just want to spit out a so-so Yammie, so I referred to several other builds online. The Cosmo 0 was a natural, so I went for that while I was at it. BTW: it hurt my hands to do so, but I scratched up a new one (now watch the old one show back up!) :

Just finishing up this project; I just found out friday night (on top of everything else) that the property manager our landlord hired gave us a renewal lease that has some pretty shady terms in it (should we sign it). Not sure how legal some of them are, but frankly, I'm tired of this nonsense since the new landlord took over last year; he hired a ramshackle joke of a property management group that is pretty "fly by night", and most of their reviews I think are "pumped up" by friends of theirs. In short: we may have to move this November, and it only gives us 1 1/2 months to do so. >_> With that said: I may have to put up doing any projects for some time to come. It's also going to wreck the daylights out of Thanksgiving and Christmas for us. But before I did, I wanted to try to finish off the Yamato. Also: I did a tiny Cosmo Zero for it, but it ended up vanishing into thin air when I went to pick the piece of tape it was on up (I stick tiny pats to tape when spraying) and it flew into the air, never to be seen again. At least I got a pic of it: it was a pain to sculpt at that scale, so if I cannot find it, it's not getting rebuilt (my hands can only take so much anymore):

The leak ruined whatever materials I had left to use; those all went out yesterday. And bills/ inflation have reduced us to "emergency mode" now. I had posted about this a few moments ago, but my post got deleted, so the short version is: I'm considering just dropping modelbuilding as a hobby. Just trying to breathe air in this nation is getting too expensive now.

No, its' covered (we didn't cause it, so we're not being charged for it). And today, my box fan fell over and snapped a blade. So there goes even more money out the blasted window. Seriously, I may as well just throw away all my worldly possessions and go live in a cave; knowing my luck, the bear that owns it would probably come back and serve me with eviction papers. Going to go outside and scream my lungs out for a while. Meantime folks, please enjoy this lovely tune courtesy of Napoleon XIV:

not doubting that MT... but to be honest: I cannot plce a value on those things. The models are irreplacable on many levels (especially the scratchbuilt ones). anyways, thanks for your support folks; I appreciate it. Just wanted to check in while i hd a clear moment before I went to lie down fo a while...

Compensation wise: "act of god", since the pipe was ancient (lead) and was in place since the house was built. I consulted legal aid over this and their reply: Pretty much, I'm hosed. Going to go cry now...

UPDATE: DISASTER. The Yamato is fine (before anyone asks). That said, our upstairs neighbor had a blockage upstairs Friday that was supposedly fixed by the maintenance from our property manager. Well...they didn't fix it and the neighbors ran water today, flooding their bathroom and sending water through the ceiling in ours and the closet where I store some of my models: Bathroom ceiling and light: Ceiling in closet (closet is in the computer room, which is next to the bathroom): Bucket catching water from leak: Maintenance has been forwarded these pics with a severe notice about the danger to the electrical; since it's Labor Day, they cannot get a hold of anyone. The casualties: 1/700 Scratchbuilt (masking tape) U.S.S. Enterprise Carrier (CVN-65): The model is soaked and the tape unraveling; no wy to save it. 1/72 Macross Launch Arm Diorama: (Masking tape and plastic, fighter was crushed under boxes that fell due to collapse from water damage): The Masonite bord is soaked and shortly after this pic, crumbled to pieces. 12 inch cusom painted world globe (made to look like Earth in space as it actually appears): (I lost it at this point) Also lost (no avalable pics; broke dwn crying just trying to take the previous) due to landslide when several stacked bxes imploded from the deluge, crushng them irreparably: 1/48 F-16 alcon (General Dynamics Test version) 1/48 F-177 nighthawk concept israeli version) 172 starfighter (foiled fiish Box, decals and instructions for 1/500 U.S.S. Nimitz currently on life support: 1/350 Refit/ Enterprise A (trying to save her...decls took a walloping fr m lime in water due to dissolved plaster). with the proprty mangement company, they state that they want renters to carry insurance (w cannot aford it), so talking to them about the loses is goig to go nowhere. i do not have the mney to replace them, and even if i did, this just tore th hart right o t of my (explitve) ches. i dnt want to evn thin about buldng anything/ not t menton tryng not to hve a seizur. with that pdate, i am oing to b on an extendd leave from hre . engbuzz out

Exactly MT! On that note: where the chrome has to be glued, maybe buff it down with some steel wool or 600-grit sanding film so the glue has purchase, then after gluing, hit it with clearcoat so it won't flake off.
-
Okay...for some odd reason, I can't find it!
-
You can also use wood glue, which has a stronger bond.

Hey, thanks! I tried doing a topic search on this, but my pc is acting funny. It wouldn't display the results, so I figured take a chance and just post it. O.o Gonna have to have a discussion with my 'puter using a large mallet....
