  1. Ah, I see. I think I'll pass, with all due respect Shawn. I don't think I'd want to explain that my ship got a bad case of crabs. O.O
  2. Well, to be honest: the old one WAS tossed in the trash due to too much damage being done. The new one is Revell's 1/720 scale kit, with several planes salvaged off the old one and resculpted. I don't want anyone to be mislead here; all the same, thank you for the compliment. Er...what are those? O.o
  3. Thanks! Well, this is an actual model kit and not a scratchbuild that I slapped together, so there's that. Thanks folks! I thought the 'cat launching would add something to it, and it looks like I wasn't wrong! Now...to go utterly insane: https://www.megahobby.com/products/aircraft-carrier-figures-painted-1-700-eduard.html Going to need an electron microscope pretty soon. Stay tuned...
  4. Is it me, or do his arms look a little long for his body? O.o
  5. UPDATE: Four months ago, on Labor Day, my original scratchbuilt 1/720 CVN-65 met a tragic fate: Now in January, 2023, four months and 3 days after that devastating nightmare, and thanks to both my wife and EVERYONE here for your support both material, emotional and otherwise... SHE LIVES AGAIN: While the Big E still needs some finishing touches (rigging, etc.), she is complete enough now to premiere in full on the boards here! Thanks to everyone for following so far and for your support while she was reborn! -pb
  6. Nearing completion...stay tuned for more pics and descriptions...
  7. That really sounds weird... moving the grip to the back part (which slides back from the main body on the regular GU-11) is going to put stress on that part. I know it's probably made out of OT materials, but that's still not a good idea IMO.
  8. WOW!!!! 😲 My apologies Arbit; I literally just noticed this!
  9. So with that all said: given enough time, Golg Boddole Zer's fleet could have boiled off Earth's atmosphere. I wonder how many Macross cannons that would take to do that to an Earth-type planet (and how long)?
  10. Wish I could afford that Vexar!!
  11. The thing is: you tumble a plane like that and even a B or D model 'Cat is going to have issues with stalling. Maybe a B or D could recover from that easier, but I would hesitate to give that the benefit of the doubt.
  12. Speaking of "waiting for paint to dry". my airwing finally came in: So far, I have one detail painted; sorry it's such sloppy work (aside from the black wash; have to let one of the tails dry from a repair then I can remove more of the wash). At this size, I can barely control the brush; I'll try to do better: I also managed to get the Tilly crane painted and glued into position: Stay tuned folks... one down, 73 more to go.... *Special note: BIG shout out to @derex3592 for hooking me up with the air wing!
  13. It definitely looks CGI; Tomcats don't move that way. Also, I recognize that paint scheme: it's VX-4 Evaluators. Someone probably thought that either the color would look cool, or could claim "it's experimental, so they could do that!" In any event, here's the most I think an F-14 could do ; note in this pic the horizon is a bit tilted, so when straightened, the Tomcat isn't even climbing completely vertical: More to the point: with all the rolling and whatnot that plane was doing in the footage, it would stall out and enter a flat spin (the thing that took down Maverick's plane in Top Gun). Doing a little more research, I found this on Youtube: So, with selectable skins and whatnot, I think we found our culprit. (When I was in my late teens, I wanted to go into the Navy and become a "cat-driver"; however, damage to my hearing by some jerk with an air horn right in back of my head at a pep rally in my junior year ended that dream. Up until then, I had studied the F-14 inside and out and devoured everything I could find out about it, including available specs and other technical stuff. Heaven only knows how many models I built of it! ).
  14. Nice!! Now... how well does it work making pizza?
  15. Right? On that note... UPDATE: Pilots and cockpit painted up: Cockpit, no pilots: And the pilots: I repainted the pilots after pulling them from the other plane; I did my best on them. Unfortunately, even with magnification, I can only do so much at 1/72 scale! As for the cockpit, I still plan on doing the decals; I just needed to get some paintwork done. Once all of this is set and the dullcote is applied, then we can get to starting the outside of the plane. On that specific note: the panel lines are very shallow on this; I'm thinking of scribing them a slight bit deeper so they don't disappear on me! Stay tuned...
  16. Starship Modeler and Replica Prop Forums would be good venues for that.
  17. Yeah; I had those thoughts and when test-fitting, could see them. So I'll just run with that. Thanks!
  18. I had to do that so they would fit in the cockpit; even with the channels for the legs and sanding the legs down, they wouldn't fit!
  19. That cat looks really sharp, Rock!!! Speaking of Tomcats, I got a surprise gift for Christmas recently: a 1/72 Hobbyboss F-14 in VF-1 Wolfpack livery- I also got a 1/72 F-4 Phantom set from another friend as yet another surprise gift: *To those that sent me these: you've done this weary heart a world of good; thank you and Merry Christmas!* As to the Tomcat: I started that kit while I'm waiting on parts for the Enterprise carrier (thank you to yet another friend for their generosity!): I'm planning on painting and slightly weathering the cockpit, but since I plan on having an "in-flight" 'cat (closed canopy, wheels up configuration), I don't know if putting the display decals in is necessary, since much may not even be visible. Your thoughts, folks?
  20. At the rate they're going, they'll have to shop at Walmart for their equipment...
