I was thinking papercraft

It’s such a simple design, I’m surprised it hasn’t really been done by anything other than garage kit companies. Although I have an odd feeling hasegawa might actually do one, especially if the sales on this toy do any good

As far as some of those made up gimmicks, I really don’t remember ever seeing a gnerl pilot actually get out of their fighter with weapons. To be fair, most just died. But I have no idea where that rifle came from and don’t remember them using tools like an axe or small weapons like a knife. Maybe a few had tools after the big climactic not finale. I really mostly remember surviving zentraedi mecha pilots just using their bare hands after getting their machine trashed. I think the only armed ones were just dude that grabbed a rifle out of their main ship armory if they couldn’t get to something like a regult in time. Although I do remember some odd weopons like something that looked like a shotgun that one of those fed up maintenance workers in a jumpsuit.

This kinda makes me laugh. It looks like it just got outta bed and had to put on his soft pink house slippers

Maybe the audiences now just wanted to see some dude in sandals kicking butt, but audience that loved the first film already knew it was kinda pointless and stayed home

I don’t think I trust this shield. There’s gotta be something shady about it if it ends up with that R18+ tag at hobby search. I really don’t want to find out about any hidden gimmicks

just thought I’d post their alphabet translation from the hasegawa regult, just in case anyone sees something and just wants to try and translate it.

I just figure that there’s not a major amount of play arts items on regular release, that the thread dealing with just their action figures is fine. Wether that ends up Kai, Shin or even bring arts or whatever.

Same here, I never saw names for the body armor until these toys. It’s strange because Robotech usually simplified names far more. Like Battle pod or officers battle pod. The only time I remember an actual zentraedi name in the old Robotech might’ve been a weird pronunciation of Queadluun Rau.

I don’t really know who that is, but right now, I totally get what you’re saying

Same. I looked at the title and don’t remember ever hearing that there was a part one. Unless this is like Ocean’s eleven where the number just indicates how many members are involved

I’ll wait for the weird ai Florida trailer park version

If I remember, those Theo grey holes were the missile launchers on each side. I don’t remember it ever opening up like that. I may be wrong, but I remember the missiles launching sideways and then they would curve to the target. I was already planning a rewatch of the show to see details about the light body armor dudes, now I gotta watch it to see the gnerl in action. Maybe I should just wait for whatever other obscure item they try to produce, so I just have to do one super watch

I’d like to know as well, all I’ve found was Zentraedi Recovery Ship as the name on non Robotech searches. Then again I’ve never seen their body armors named either

I honestly don’t know where they’re doing their research on these things. A bunch of Robotech stuff seems to name the recovery ship what they’re trying to name the gnerl. I’m not sure if that’s the official Macross name of the recovery ship, but it definitely isn’t the gnerl’s name. They can’t get their colors right, their names come out of nowhere and I have a weird feeling that the gnerl toy is gonna end up with a clear canopy

That’s what I thought. I figured the big camera in front was to see rather than just a gunsight.

are they doing a clear canopy, or is this picture just to show the internal details? I kinda always thought it was just a light grey armor piece on the top and bottom. I don’t remember any scenes that showed it clear. I think there was either an alternate color that had it green, but that may have just been a color mistake in the animation.

The football is great as well, wouldn’t mind that on a shelf

you can clearly see that they were so sparkly that the light just shines around them. seriously though where did they get that name for the Gnerl?

Kinda my feelings on this. It’s kinda unnecessary and too soon and yeah a little realism in the live action would have been more interesting

I guess the thing for me is that it would just be the same movie again. I’d rather see something a bit different. Give the main kids accents to match the land they live in at least. The animated one was already cg, the cg here doesn’t look much different. Maybe take more elements from the book. There’s a lot they could do to make it something fresh without being blasphemous to the animated film.

I always laugh at the “Smiles his Blacktooth grin” part. I feel like Dave should’ve been cast in a cartoon as a goofy villain type character and he would’ve fit perfectly. Pantera had their vulgar video with some funny sketches made by the band and I’ll never forget the black tooth grin sketch making fun of toothpaste commercials of the time and Megadeth. I don’t want it to sound like I don’t like the band, just sometimes Dave’s singing makes me laugh uncontrollably
