  1. I came across this just the other day, and I've listened through it about half a dozen times now. Linked to my favorite piece right now, but the whole thing is worth seeing/hearing.
  2. Yeah, this was mentioned in either another thread or the general TV thread. It's an explicit adaptation of the anime, so no, it's not a ripoff. Not sure about royalties, but just wanted to clarify that it's an above-board production. The anime has a very heavy sense of motion and a subdued, deliberate soundscape, neither of which translate well to live action. That's to say nothing of the usual pitfalls of recreating anime in live action shot for shot (the change in color, contrast, etc. is always especially noticeable). Something exquisitely animated usually feels cheap in live action. Watching a little bit of it, my predictions were more or less confirmed. It doesn't do anything particularly interesting with what it's got, and the shift to near-future Korea from alternate-history Japan makes what elements it does borrow from the original that much more bizarre. The armor doesn't have the same intimidating presence as in the anime, nor the same sense of weight. Again, the heaviness in the anime didn't make the transition. The characters don't sell the idea that they're trooping around in slow, heavy, but nigh impervious suits of armor. Once I finish it, I'll get back with an opinion on the story, but the bit I did see of the beginning isn't leaving a positive first impression.
  3. I'd PM you, as I remember your work even from other forums, but I wouldn't want to take away from others who missed out on these way back when and/or want them more than I would. Great to see you're doing well again!

The EXQ Figure (ie the one I inadvertently preordered) is coming sometime in December. This other auction page gives a date of January 11: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h351642807 The Kuji Sheryl is, yes, releasing November 23.
  5. I think I'd have liked it better if it were.

So, like a doofus, I mistook this for the Kuji figure and picked it up for what will ultimately be something like $40 plus shipping, thinking I was getting an amazing steal on its 5800-yen asking price... Oh well, it'll still probably be completely worth it, dem gams are mmmmmmffffff. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g304575430
  7. Could the lack/delay of a US Strangereal Edition have anything to do with the US tariffs on Chinese-made goods? Perhaps they would have to adjust the cost of the collection owing to the Arsenal Bird's inclusion. If that were the case, I'd be totally fine with "just" a US version of the Japanese Collector's Edition, too.
  8. ... ....... ...........hot????

  10. Fair point. I Platinum'd without even realizing it, and was in the middle of completing the benchmarks when I finally checked and saw I'd gotten it. It's definitely not the hardest Platinum Trophy to get. I restarted and restarted and grit my teeth through all the infuriating drone chase challenges - how many were there, like four or five spread across the city? - chasing down and finally getting the Gold in all of them. Never again. Yep, I'm exactly the same way. If all the planes exist more or less at parity with each other, then that wouldn't be much of a problem, but that also would kind of defeat the purpose of having a variety of planes in the first place. A tiered competition system might help. Something similar to racing games, where entering different... cups? circuits?... determines what cars you can drive, the type and extent of tuning you can do to your vehicle, etc... I dunno, I'm sure someone who regularly plays multiplayer has a better idea than I do of how to create an ideal AC multiplayer.
  11. Interestingly, the two analyses of this trailer I've watched seem to interpret the contents differently, one discussing the customization/etc. as part of a multiplayer game, and the other discussing it as part of the single-player campaign. Looking at the trailer again, it doesn't clarify which of the two modes this upgrade tree exists in. I would imagine the game is single-player only, but one could just as easily argue for the existence of multiplayer based on just this trailer.
  12. Unfortunately, the bolded is not the case at all here. The audience didn't suddenly develop an aversion to grinding. The recent news that Spider-Man PS4 is among the most-Platinum Trophy'd games on the console is proof of that. Audiences have no problem with grinding for tokens, so long as those tokens and the rewards obtained with them are equally reasonably obtained. What has happened is that devs/publishers have intentionally crippled progressions systems of their games and then put these scummy cash system in place to "balance" it. When Star Wars Battlefront 2 (and Mad Max IIRC, and Shadow of War, and so on) took out its microtransactions, it forced everyone to progress at a snail's pace, resulting in a terrible game. It had to completely rebalance the progression system in order to actually make it good. Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that there IS a real-money system in AC7 and Bamco take it out. It won't be a return to the upgrade systems of AC4/5/X/etc.; you won't unlock planes every couple of missions. More likely, it'll be closer to AC Infinity but without the ability to buy fuel to play more every day. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
  13. I know, but the cynic(/realist?) in me worries all the same.
  14. The number of unlockables and the incredible prices to unlock them - 40,000 points, 50k, etc... 440k for one particular plane... I just have a sinking feeling that you'll receive 1k, 5k max per mission, and to "speed up" the unlocks you'll have the "option" of buying in-game currency.
  15. ....and I already think it won't be worth the money compared to the No-Grade.
  16. Weird, because "@Tking22 has put this studio up on a pedestal and worships at its feet" was what I said, and you seemed to take issue with that. I mean, if that's all you wanted to say, you could have done exactly that to begin with. Instead we have this... bizarre back-and-forth. Eh. Anyway, I hope you're enjoying the game, I guess.
  17. EDIT: Watching it again, I smell the unpleasant odor of microtransactions and in-game currency incoming... fuuuuuuuuck
  18. Well, guess I'm getting that season pass now.
  19. With his luck, he'll get one with a spare VF-31A included, too.
  20. I too feel bad for anyone having to follow Yoko Kanno. I feel like a second season COULD do exactly that... if only the first season didn't exist. The execution of that first season is just so bad that it poisons absolutely everything and everyone involved in it. Pretending the first one never happened and starting from scratch seems like the only way to salvage these characters.
  21. None taken whatsoever. I don't even see how this statement could possibly be construed as offensive. That said, I hope you understand that I'm not saying I think they're a bad developer, or that their games are bad. I just generally don't care very much about them. ...no one said anything about the "amount of work and love that go into their games," though I'm sure many an indie and mid-size dev could give them a run for their money on that front. Again: Pedestal. See, but that's not what you said at all. You didn't say, "Look at the totality of the reviews and how the positive vastly outweighs the negative." You said, "Why not just actually read some of the 10/10 and 5/5 reviews it's getting." The implication being that 1) one should only read glowing puff pieces, and that will give them a clear picture of the quality of a game; and 2) that perfect-score reviews don't have any criticism to offer. "It's a 10/10 obviously," you add, having not even played it yourself yet. You've already made up your mind on how good it is going to be. There might be a day one, unpatchable bug that renders it completely unplayable. But it's a 10/10 obviously. The story might be complete garbage, and the mechanics might be cumbersome and annoying, and the game might be too tedious. But it's a 10/10 obviously. The day and night and weather cycle might be the most frustrating thing you've ever encountered, to the point that you throw your controller at the screen when your character gets sucked into a tornado for the tenth time in five minutes. But it's a 10/10. Obviously. Again: Pedestal. I'm sorry, but this gave me a good laugh. I don't think anyone thought you were being offensive, just... weirdly confrontational. (I said "defensive," but I meant confrontational.) Again: Pedestal. AAAANYWAY. If they do end up remastering the original RDR for PC, I might finally give it a shot. All this bluster and hullabaloo makes me wonder what the big deal is. It'll probably be like Ghost in the Shell, where I binge the entire thing in a night or two and emerge on the other side like, ".....OHHHHHH, so that's what the fuss was all about." (I've been spoiled on the ending already, though, so... oh well.)
  22. I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm... But moreover, methinks you've intentionally put your blinders on, or maybe you're doing the internet equivalent of covering your ears and shouting "LALALALALALALALA" really loud. Or, more likely, you've weirdly put this gaming studio on a headscratchingly high pedestal and worship at its feet. It's getting universal praise? Every Rockstar game before it has gotten universal praise? It's revolutionary? Every game before it was revolutionary? It's "obviously" a 10/10? No offense, but that's a weirdly defensive response to a joke. And even if @davidwhangchoi wasn't joking, that's still a weirdly defensive response. Maybe you ARE taking crazy pills. Rockstar aren't god's gift to gaming or anything (especially not with the whole shebang a week or two ago about 100-hour work weeks). Your fixation on its review score is... wow. I've never actually encountered that on the internet until now. @davidwhangchoi was probably playing it for a joke, but you seem to be taking it inordinately seriously. ---- I never thought Rockstar, the GTA series, or LA Noire, were all that great. /shrug With GTA it's entirely likely just due to the sandbox. Like I said, I've never liked sandbox games very much. (I had a blast with Spider-Man and the first Assassin's Creed, but the former is the exception that proves the rule, and the latter isn't really a sandbox game IMO.) LA Noire, though... I just could never see what everyone else seemed to see. Maybe I'M the one taking crazy pills. It's not even a sandbox game, not really. It's a sandbox with nothing but sand. People go on and on about the facial capture and the story and this and that, and I'm just like... yeah, ok I guess. To me it sounds as uninteresting as frakking David Cage going on about more triangles = more emotions. The most fun I ever had with a Rockstar game was the original Max Payne... and I played the shitty version on PS2. Playing (the better versions of) it again, some UI and gameplay elements don't hold up, but it's still a great cheesy little comic book of a time. And that's almost entirely thanks to Remedy, not Rockstar. So again, if you were really hyped for this game and it's finally come out after nearly a decade, then awesome. I'm hype for you. But for me, personally, I just don't have the same emotional investment, so seeing it dominating the ENTIRE news cycle does get a bit tiring. I just want my Ace Combat infos and my Kingdom Hearts trailers, I don't wanna wade through tons and tons of Red Dead Retweets to get to them.

Why does it look better than the Sheryl scope, though? Can you tl;dr it, or should I watch the entire video to find out?
  24. So they're using one giant turgid shlong to hold up another giant turgid shlong... man, they're just stripping away all pretenses and going full Freud, aren't they?

    Bandai DX VF-31

The lack of shading is what turns the white into a monotonous blob. I doubt Bandai will go so far as to pre/post-shade it for you (especially since they won't even panel line them), but that would definitely do wonders for the look.
