  1. Aesthetics. Kawamori likes the Su-27's nose. That's what it is from a meta standpoint, at least. Not sure if there's any reason in-universe. The "beak" has been a feature since at least the VF-11.
  2. Was her not knowing she was divine (or undivine if it turns out she's just a human) part of the story, though? As in there was a plot to keep that information from her because of such-and-such reason?
  3. Around the 0:28 mark, someone says, "You will train her harder than any Amazon before her ... until she is better than even you. But she must never know the truth about what she is." Now... is that a thing? Is that a Wonder Woman character trait/canon that exists in the comics? Like she doesn't know that she's descended from the Ancient Greek Gods, or that she's really a human, or something, and part of her origin story has her discovering that truth? Because otherwise it sounds like a really dumb conspiracy plot to me.
  4. I disagree. The layers and complexity of music/vocals sounds very Frontier Kanno. I'm not big on it, just like I wasn't at first with the original Sheryl music.
  5. Got this from MacrossCentral on Facebook.
  6. Was just about to post that as well. My thoughts: Kind of a bad trailer, I hope the final product is better but I don't expect it to be.
  7. I dunno, I wouldn't call it overstated so much as... well, it's there for anyone who cares, but anyone who cares needs to be careful about how much they care. Framerate isn't the be all end all of video games, and yeah, going from 30 to 20 fps sounds bad on paper but isn't quite so bad in practice. It's annoying, but not self-destructive. I think this would be more of an issue if Nintendo had made a big deal about framerate in their marketing, which they smartly didn't. I'm surprised people aren't making it more of an issue on PS4 and Xbone, both of which made heavy and explicit marketing pushes out of 1080p60 and yet right out of the gate we had games at sub-30fps and sub-1080p marks. They actually lied to customers; Nintendo just didn't say anything.
  8. There is certainly something to be said about how more often "robots" is used to justify undressing/sexualizing the female body than the male in sci-fi. When's the last time you saw a naked sexy dude robot? Terminator, maybe, if you're into that Schwarzenegger look? Compare that to sexy girl robots in Terminator 3, Transformers 2, and Ex Machina, and that's just from my very limited recent memory. ...then again, maybe the reason I don't remember more sexy robot dudes is because I'm not into sexy dudes, robot or otherwise. So... yeah. But I mean, really, if SJWs are gonna jump on anything in this movie, it would be and was the whitewashing. Because c'mon now. Unrelated: The last time I saw the same phrases repeated over and over for every trailer/tv spot/advertisement/etc. was The Last Airbender, and I ignored all the signs and saw it opening night. I've since learned my lesson.
  9. The Wii U version plays similarly to the portable mode of the Switch version (ie 720p with decreased texture filtering) but with the framerate hiccups of the docked mode (ie random drops to 20fps from 30). Digital Foundry postulate that the drops are due to the game's implementation of bilinear filtering since they happen regardless of how complex things are on screen. Other than that the two versions run identically.
  10. On sale again @ HLJ: http://hlj.com/product/EVT57191/Act No other Macross toys, but here's the rest of the sale anyway: http://hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?SaleGroup=SPRINGSALE2017
  11. Yeah, it's not even showing up on the front page. That said, I'm seeing 5,000+ items right now, so I'm guessing it's a go. I'll post a link in the OP as well.
  12. Link to thread about the upcoming HLJ spring sale (note it hasn't started yet, I'm just letting people know):
  13. Active = http://hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?SaleGroup=SPRINGSALE2017 --- --- I just got an email from HLJ saying their spring sale will start on March 8, 12pm JST and will last until March 22, 6pm JST. No link to the sale, no preview of items on sale, etc., so I don't know if Macross will make an appearance at all. All the same, I thought you'd all like to know. I or someone will get a link when it starts, I'm sure.
  14. The Digital Foundry review I posted a page or so back had them plugging in a battery bank and the Switch charging indicator turning on. Another video (I forget which) said something about only being able to charge it with the provided charger, but I wasn't sure exactly what they were talking about. Maybe they meant it used a specific voltage that most tablet/phone chargers aren't compatible with. Are you using the Nintendo wall charger, or one for a different device? Either way, portable battery banks are confirmed to work.
  15. Man, international shipping is WEIRD.
  16. Might be of interest to any of you who still have a Wii U and are considering upgrading for BotW.
  17. Good point. People confirmed you could use external batteries via USB-C. Maybe a conformal battery pack will be a thing. @Duymon Can the Joycons be used unconnected to the system in portable mode, or do they have to be clicked in? It would make looking for three separate items a bit of a hassle, but at least everything would fit.
  18. I thought the shipping policy was based on package size rather than value of certain items. I've had plenty of items up to a certain size shipped through SAL. Granted, none of them were $300 collector's items... And at a certain size point, the SAL option, though still available, costs more than EMS.
  19. Duymon mentioned a page back that the batteries should at least be fairly easily replaceable, being connected via a simple pin connector. Maybe/Likely a larger-capacity battery will come out in the near future, just as one did for the Wii U controller. If not Nintendo, then almost assuredly a third party.
  20. Could be she's calling the Major "mira" or whatever the slang is in Spanish that (I think I've heard) some people call young girls. Like a term of endearment or something? Urban Dictionary also says that "mira" is like saying "yo" in Spanish. So whatever it is, maybe the lady's being super informal with ScarJo, and just happens to have a dumb Midwestern white person accent. I dunno. As for "Motoko Kusanagi/Jane Excalibur"... eh. That particular comparison puts too much emphasis on symbolism, methinks. Both Motoko and Kusanagi are pretty common Japanese names, regardless of whether the latter is "descended" from the sword or not. Excalibur, on the other hand... Not too many Johnny Excaliburs or Excalibur Smiths running around. "Jane Smith" would be more apt if only because you could argue that the last name "Smith" once upon a time might have been an occupation signifier, ie "Jane the Smith," as in Jane the blacksmith, and a blacksmith makes swords. You keep the tenuous connection to weaponry AND the ubiquity of the name.
  21. It's almost like whitewashing was an issue all along despite how much you claim otherwise, and Hollywood, being Hollywood, fumbled that ball every step of the way, as they're wont to do. ...okay, that's petty. (True, I think, but also petty.) Sorry. But I mean, setting aside the whitewashing controversy, does it matter that her name has changed to something culturally insignificant? I'd have thought you'd be more disappointed, generally speaking, that the story seems to have been changed from... whatever GitS is, something philosophical... to ScarJo Does Robocop. And it certainly looks like, once you remove all the superficial trappings, that's exactly what this movie is shaping up to be. Those dumb lines that get repeated in every single clip ring a whole lot of alarm bells for me. Another generic conspiracy plot? "You are the first of your kind"? "They created me, but they don't own me." C'mon. That can't be the actual story of GitS, can it? I thought it was supposed to be about a society where literally everybody is in some way part machine and thus have unique ethical questions that they must confront? Or at least something more engaging than "Grr I'm not your corporate puppet bang bang."
  22. What's up with this generation of friendly supportive competition? I want me some "Genesis does what Nintendon't," damn it!
  23. Digital Foundry's look at Zelda: BotW gives some nice insight into how the Switch behaves. In portable mode, the game runs at a native 720p (same resolution as the Switch screen) at a constant 30fps. In docked mode, the game runs at 900p and the framerate can dip down to 20fps. The CPU clocks in both modes is the same, but the GPU clock in docked mode is at least double that of portable (768 MHz docked, 384 or 307 MHz portable). The dips in framerate either have to do with streaming data from storage (ie that data transfer rate problem I mentioned a few posts ago) or the double buffering vsync strategy they're using. But as an example of what I meant, it would be nice if the portable mode could get the same 768 MHz GPU speed to perhaps push the framerate from 720p30 to 720p60. Or, for that matter, running the docked mode in portable mode so that you can get the smoother gameplay of the portable mode rather than the higher-res but worse-performing docked mode. That being said, these problems seem to be more the fault of the game than the hardware. It doesn't exactly paint a clear picture of the console's limitations/abilities.
