Dunno if there was prior confirmation about Ghost add-ons (I remember there being discussion, but nothing concrete), but it seems they are in the work: https://twitter.com/hobbylink/status/862494972272009216/photo/1

I'm tempted to say there are way way WAY too many Unicorn options to choose from, and yet here I am salivating over the possibility of a 1/48-scale kit... That ZZ looks alright, I guess. I'll need more looks from different angles, but the proportions don't seem too bad at the moment. Properly chunky where needed. The wing flaps on its arm wings are still downright ugly, though. Revive BD-1 means a Revive Ground Gundam, right? Right? (I would also settle for a 2.0 MG, or a recast of the Neo Grade PG conversion kit.) Wasn't the Zaku II already released in the Origin line? Maybe I'm thinking of Char colors or something. I can't keep up with that line's dozen Zaku variants. That was a selling point of the other MSM releases, right? Light-up eyes, at least? If they did include LED features on this kit, I wonder if they would bother trying to light up all the psychoframe or maybe just stick with the cockpit and/or eyes. What is that? Jegan, I know, but from what depiction?

Is this a P-Bandai release? Limited release a la the VF-25 Deculture kits? Promotional decals for purchasing Delta items?
-
I dunno, the transformation gimmick is a major drawback in my book. The MG was finnicky enough; at this small a scale, building this thing will be a lesson in frustration. I'm actually super hyped about the 1/48 MSM, though. A huge honking Unicorn Mode would be just awesome. Is that a Bird Mode I see on the Wing Zero HRM?

Just in case anyone's interested, the latest in Kotobukiya's Frame Arms kit series, the Byakko, is up for preorder on HLJ: https://hlj.com/product/KBYFA-049 on Hobby Search: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10465646 (5800 JPY retail, 4640 JPY on either site) It's designed by Yoji Shinkawa of Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders fame. You can see the clear similarities to his other designs, especially the head design. And overall, I think it looks a lot like a copyright-safe MG Sahelanthropus from MGSV. Just needs a fuel pod/radome on that left shoulder. It seems to deviate quite a bit from the standard Frame Arms inner skeleton, as well. I'd be interested to see how much of the original Frame Architect is in there.

True enough, and to be fair, all transforming renditions of the VF-1 look wonky in one form or another. I just prefer the way Hasegawa did it with the three separate kits, each emphasizing that particular mode's strengths.

GRRM = ??? From what I gathered of the novels' ending,
-
If they (Max Factory) prioritize the fighter mode, then the proportions will be off just enough that it won't look quite right in Battroid mode. But seeing this thing in battroid mode is definitely of interest to me as well. Because c'mon. Of COURSE someone(s) is(/are) going to try and do it.

Oh, nice! The Blue Destinies aren't exactly my cup of tea, but it's nice to see something in the -79 family getting some love.

You probably meant RX-78, but if you DID mean RX-79, when and where did you pick it up? Because GUUURRRLLLL I want me some Ground Gundam goodness! /snaps fingers

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
kajnrig replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, it's best not to look into the hype and just go with how you feel about his prior movies. I love love love his shorter stories more than his feature length films, and this one definitely carries some of the same flaws as his other features, but it's still really really good. -
Reviving this thread because I saw episode 2 last night, and boy I'd forgotten how fraked up this story is. I'm not sure if I like that it sticks really really close to the source material, but I certainly don't dislike it. Looking forward to episode 3.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

Same. It's not perfect, but it's legitimately memorable. -
Oh, you're probably right. I guess I just assumed there must have been HG V decals that you used.

The editing of all the trailers has been great. I love watching them. Don't know how the movie will fare, but I'm hopeful.

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
kajnrig replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Saw this the other day. It's a bit wishy-washy until it finally starts digging into the movies themselves, but I found it interesting nonetheless. The clickbait-y title is kind of gross, but eh.- 751 replies

Hey, I remember those guys. Didn't you use the Victory decals for those builds? I thought the red rings were decals...

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
kajnrig replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
According to http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ghostintheshell2017.htm Worldwide gross: $166 million They put the production budget at $110 million, but some firms estimate closer to $180 million. Plus the marketing (which never has numbers, but people usually guesstimate to be around the same as production), and this film either just barely broke even ($110m production, $50-60m marketing) or lost anywhere from $14-194 million ($180 production, $0-180 marketing). There were news articles (such as this one: http://deadline.com/2017/04/ghost-in-the-shell-scarlett-johansson-box-office-flop-whitewash-1202061479/ ) saying that it was a $60 million flop. It's known that I didn't care for this film from the beginning, and while my feelings on it have mellowed now that it's come and gone, after watching the various anime incarnations and re-reading the manga, I keep asking myself, "Why couldn't they have just done this?" There were plenty of episodes in SAC that could have been translated to screen outright, the Tachikoma-centric ones especially. I've only gotten 3/7 through Arise and even though I have my issues with it, it still has more interesting characters and does a better job exploring a better backstory for the Major. That's not to say that these adaptations deserve to be held up on pedestals, but they're simply well-made and well-told, which is more than can be said of this movie.- 751 replies

Yeah, the Unicorn MG has quite a lot of decals, but that's owing mostly to it being a Katoki design. The HGUC also has a waterslide decal sheet available as well. The animation doesn't bother with the markings, of course, which is strange because they used CGI models and slapping on some marking textures couldn't possibly have been very hard. For my part I never bother to use them; I find them more distracting than "realistic."

If they were smart they'd do a HGUC and release the RG Unicorn and Destroy modes separately. I mean if they were smart they would just leave the HGUCs well enough alone, but since they HAVE to do an RG...

The books were better-written than this. Certainly less hammy. I feel no qualms skipping this.
