Yeah, I thought I saw as much in the show, but the custom ones made me doubt myself. Thanks so much. I suppose the studio was already super thin on the budget, so they just reused the models. Shame, though, but I'm sure the eventual movie retelling will show the 31As in their proper glory.

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)

Put another way, make the camera leer at the boys as much as it leers at the girls. If you can't understand that, then that's on you. /shrug -
Justice League, available now & Snyder Cut on HBO Max in 2021
kajnrig replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I know it's been asked before, but what is up with the trend of having a teaser for the teaser? Is it for the sake of using the video in Youtube adverts? Anyway, still going to keep my expectations nice and low for this movie and this franchise. Because one halfway decent movie still only brings the average goodness of the endeavor up to like 4/10. -
That is VERY little plastic for $100+...

Upcoming? Is Arcadia/Bandai releasing a toy? -
Truly something to look forward to. OT: Is it confirmed in lineart or some shot in Delta that the VF-31A's default pod arrangement is gunpod+missile launcher? I've only ever seen that arrangement on customized model kits, so it'd be nice to know for certain.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
kajnrig replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, the Id transformation is beautifully simple, yet there's just enough to it that you can't tell they're the same suit at first glance. I'd love to get a transforming figure, fragile as those back pieces/limb extensions would be. "Weltall 3.0..." You mean the Xenogears?- 6885 replies

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
kajnrig replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'd be interested in this. A show without singers altogether, or where they are relegated to the background, or one where a retired singer either chooses to or has to make a comeback. They kind of hinted at a similar angle in Delta with Kaname, but that, like much else in Delta, didn't get to go anywhere. -

In my case, like I said before, I would be totally fine with sexuality outside of contextually-appropriate situations if it were more equitable, but that it's centered so much on the girls and made so much for and by men is... off-putting, but also just kind of boring. I remember watching almost all the high school portions and the sexual comedy with eyes glazed over. It's all recycled from stuff I saw in Ranma 1/2 twenty years ago, and that's probably the only show that's ever managed to make that specific type of humor funny. -
Oh. Whoops. Didn't see the edit.

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
kajnrig replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I remember thinking this after that episode, too. Up to that point, it had followed all the tropes for a high school harem anime, and that was just more of the same. Hypersexualization is still a major criticism I have of the show, and of (shounen) anime culture in general. Being ubiquitous doesn't mean it can't be a point of criticism, though. It would at least be more tolerable if it were more even-handed and the boys got crotch shots of their banana hammocks and had an episode where people chased Alto's sports cup through town or something. Have some legitimate sexual tension between Ozma and Bobby, same as between Sheryl and Ranka (and Ranka and Nanase?). And to be fair, Frontier does do a better job of bishounening Michel and Alto up than most shounen anime, but that's about the extent of it. There's nothing for the female gaze. I saw Demi-chan wa Kataritai (Interviews with Monster Girls) when it was airing, and it handled sexualization pretty well, all things considered. It's closest to a high school harem anime, yet the only ones overtly sexualized are the two adults, and the show makes efforts to make that sexualization contextually appropriate (when the succubus teacher is actively/accidentally trying to seduce the human teacher, for instance). It doesn't have camera shots panning creepily over pubescent girls' bodies. There are hints throughout the show before his death that he's interested in her as well, but that the fear of the social taboo against being romantic with a child(-looking teen/young adult) keeps him from acting on his interest. Macross Delta, on the other hand, I think actually does a better job of keeping itself clean. (At least as far as I can remember, and I don't remember much, because... it's Delta.) Outside of their roles in Walkure, the girls are largely not made sexy for the viewer's sake. That being said, I don't know if that's because of admirable restraint on the part of the writers or because of general ineptitude on the part of the writers. Because... it's Delta. -
Pfaahahahahahhahahahahahahahahah oh this movie is going to be terrible

Everything FINALLY arrived. The box came and left town three times before finally showing up on my doorstep without a delivery update on lucky stop number four. - A couple Gundam HGs for fun - Force Impulse MG for an incoming Stargazer conversion kit - Figure-rise bust of Kaname because it was on sale so why not - 1/100 YF-29 so I can upscale the stickers into decals for the 1/72 kit - Bandai VF-31F to do some mods, plus the build is fun despite my complaints about it - Plus some tools and supplies in the middle there -

I'd love to snap pics of my Macross gets, but unfortunately USPS has decided the most efficient way to get my stuff to me is by ping-ponging it back and forth between here and Chicago. Plus the mailperson couldn't be bothered to walk the ten feet to drop off my other package, so waited three days before throwing a failed delivery notice in my mailbox. I mean frakk you, I would've been fine with picking it up from the post office myself, if only you didn't drag your ass about it then falsify a note. Plus there's a little thing called tracking. When it's been sitting at the post office for seven days without update, it's kind of obvious you're being a little crap. ...sorry, just never gotten such bad service from them before. There was bound to be a lemon eventually. Amazon Prime Day couldn't have been easy, either. But still. -
Hey, everyone. I'm waiting on some HLJ orders to arrive, and included in there is a Figure-rise Bust of Kaname aka Best Girl. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any conversion kits or custom builds, etc., to complete the bottom halves? I doubt there would be, but I also can't imagine that no one's attempted it yet.

Kudos on them for doing it, I know it's been one of the big discussions regarding the show for a while now. Unrelated question: Is Moffat still the showrunner, or did he skedaddle somewhere between the time Matt Smith showed up and now? (Haven't seen the show since mid-Matt Smith era. Lost interest, show got kind of boring IMO, largely thanks to Moffat's good but samey writing.)

Hopefully with the release of AC7, we'll see the return of some (preferably all) of those original designs, and with the return of those, some new kit releases as well. Maybe time each one as a simultaneous kit/DLC release? And then of course there are the inevitable Idolmaster skins...
-
I mean... the prefinished release is only 5000 yen more, and you can find the long out of production Hasegawa kit still selling for significantly less than either of these, AND it comes with the VF-0S included. It's a bit smaller in scale, but only just. This is just bad pricing strategy, or at least in the eyes of this particular plebeian.
