Agreed, DYRL seems like easy money compared to those nightmares. Other thoughts would be to take other Macross paint schemes and make VF-1 versions of them. YF-19, YF-21, what Bandai did with Messer's VF-1 for the HMR. "Special color" versions of the ones they already did would also make more sense than these...

Everything is done for sex and/or money. If you can't bring your conspiracy back to the perpetrator getting one of those two things, it's probably not a good conspiracy. In these cases, I think it's more about spending and spending commitments. A lot of companies went under in 2008/2009 and the survivors mostly pivoted to a strategy of "better to err on the side of excess demand" along with "build less, charge more." There are probably accounting thumbprints up and down the strategy: smaller production runs = smaller up front costs, less forward commitments, more adaptability, less leverage, and the increased prices have offset the loss of savings that come from bigger production runs.

A VF-11C announcement would have been a lot nicer. Then we could hope for an 11B and an 11MAXL. As it is, we'll definitely get the 19Kai and probably a 19S, maybe a 19F... the other two are just funzy display pieces for this show,;they're no where far enough along to expect a release next year for the anniversary.

I'm curious also why Arcadia never did a VT-1. Maybe BigWest jacks up the price on the license when they know Bandai is also working on something? Maybe that's why they haven't given us a 0A Premium Finish also... Bandai said "Hey, we're doing some MacZero stuff in the next couple years, chase Arcadia off for us."

Looking at pics of the original VF-19Kai Hi-Metal, it doesn't have that notch above the nose cone so I think it must be a whole new chest shape which probably agrees to the obviously new legs and makes me think it's a totally new mold. The sound booster looks the same as the original though.

It has obvious landing gear in the legs, I think it's a full retool. The other two in sound force look like half-baked 3D prints with no engineering.

Okay, I think that's a Last Red Shoulder TC in the upper left and a the Blood Sucker so two more releases? Surprised they didn't go to the round mover, parachute pack, and Melkia versions for the easy $.

I change the scale to make them all the same size so they can be compared to each other. I think both comparisons do a good job of showing the DX shifts the mid point of the line art forward.

What KitzConcept figured out, and Arcadia has shied away from, is that if you're going to have the factory produce toys, like the VF-1S Focker/Ichijo reissues, there's usually only a small outlay to tell the factory to produce another 100 with a different tampo process. So, if there's enough market to warrant pumping out Hikaru and Roy, it's a golden opportunity to do a TV Roy and a Max 1S in very limited numbers. Maybe make those "premium finish" only and do 100 of each.
