I'm really only interested in the yf19 as it appeared in macross plus. But if it helps us see more mac + goodness I will buy repaints like game edition and stuff. If you look in macross design works you will see all the changes for all the 19 valks. Even though it looks similar there is lotsa changes between the variants. (I just hope they get the mac 7 license for things like the vf11 full armor and vf22 and possibly 17S and 17D. Would love an upgrade from the bandai 17.) If I want the vf19 as they appeared in macross 7, I don't expect to call these repaints of a macross plus toy. But a whole new thing that I would want as well as macross plus valks. If you think about it, why NOT do macross 7 valks while doing the macross plus stuff? The valks are still pretty similar and the transformation basically the same. (we can always use the argument that they went down the path in releasing the koenig monster so I still think it wouldn't be out of the question for them to attempt macross 7 stuff) So yeah..if yamato could get the macross 7 license and give us the black VF22S I will be very happy. "A black variable Qrau" Yummy. Maybe they could also do up the Yellow Qrau that appeared in "fleet of the strongest women"? Everything will look good too since it is all 1/60.

New Robotech Shadow Chronicles Vid
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wonder why they didn't use jetfire as a robotech toy? -
That's a shame. I just thought the tv valks were just less advanced (like the cockpit and stuff) and co-existed side by side with the DYRL versions but as older versions. And that: The makers of DYRL movie in the story just couldn't get the old models anymore so they used the oldest vf1 they could get. (no bother with historical accuracy) There are probably going to be exceptions to the rule like the SDF1. If the tv series is canon in story the sdf1 should look like the tv series version shouldn't it? (because of the destruction of the armd carriers and the use of prometheus and daedalus instead.) What really happened: Misa: Pull the lever marked B! How can you not know how to pilot of a valk? Hikaru: WTF are you talking about? There is no lever marked B! Argh!... *begins to crash*

So in japan they have the TV 1A head for thier yammies? I thought it was just due to them being too lazy or something. That's two questions. But yeah, they look different. I wish they did change it for accuracy.

Yeah same here. I like both negative and positive reviews though because each person might have different issues with the toy that the other guy doesn't. For example: I can totally see why the banpresto is hated so much (even though I personally am a fan of it) and so long as it is explained why it sucks in good enough detail then I am happy. Tell us where it fails and explain why, so we at least know where it factors into the overall score and for what reason those marks were taken off. (because some of the issues the reviewer might have had where points were taken off, might not be issues for another guy, say a MIB collector who really does think the fancy box matters and who intend to leave the thing in there in 20 years time) It just that when a review doesn't backup the criticism with valid reasons is when I start to think it might be biased. For me, I like to research the product and want to know everything about it before jumping in. If a review sounds more like a sales pitch that is when I get scared. (ie only mentioning the good stuff and ignoring the bad stuff - review needs to weigh the good with the bad and balance the two to come up with a final overall score to give us an indication of how good it is comparared to others. That's why I like comparisons in reviews.) For the money you pay: is it worth it, for what you get? At some point whether or not you are a "fan" of that type of product for whatever reason, you got to face up to facts and realise that there might something better than it out there (within a similar price range) and form your opinion around that. As time goes on (and assuming the products keep getting better) people's expectations rise higher and higher. So what was impressive years ago might not deserve the same level of hype and excitement later. (it's all in the wording really)

The Legend Of Zelda Or Final Fantasy?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
FF has the better and more epic feel to it, while zelda just has more for the player to do. I really couldn't stand all those boring minigames (mainly the gambling stuff and chocobo racing and breeding) they chucked into FF7. (which is what put me off FF for a long time) Nintendo minigames at least require skill. (riding a horse and shooting at ghosts with the arrows is actually fun) One series that needs more hyping is shenmue. If there is any justice in the world, the third game will be made. -
Nice. The thread should now be renamed from: "What makes them impossible?" to "why won't yamato just release them?" Graham? You going to help us ask them, and then give us the official response? Maybe let them know the results of the poll so we can have one in the future? Cuz there is no way I'm going to pull apart my valks and custom them. Just seems like the 1/60 scale gets everything while the 1/48 line is being unfairly discriminated against. Here's why I think it would be worthwhile: Unlike the VT-1 Super Ostrich (with that butt-ugly head turret ) I think a 1D would do just as well as 1 seater because: -it had weapons and hikaru blows apart some pods with it -unique parts make it stand out. (who wouldn't want this in a sea of S,J and A heads which are common?) -seen in the tv series in the first ep (it was the fans' first exposure to the transforming valk so it is iconic to some. Who could forget hikaru's crash landing into the row of buildings and his first attempt to use the battroid mode and almost crush people as it topples over? The orange valk has nostalgiac appeal) -a chance to see minmay and hikaru in civilian clothing. More uniqueness to set it apart from the others -a chance for them to put clear translucent camera sensor window in the head and detail for us to see through inside the head like they did for the garland.
-
Yeah they need a bit of modding. What I do is put lots of blutac (sticky gummy material) inside the bits to keep it together but that is more like a stopgap fix and if you only want to keep it on display. (not if you want to move stuff around alot)
-
Thanks for the reviews and impressions. Doesn't sound as bad as some make out to be.
-
That's why I had the idea maybe they should just continue with the alternate universe idea so it doesn't intrude on kawamori's world. ie Macross III (sequel to macross II ) All the super moves like pinpoint barrier punch can be done up in 3d like aquarion, and every episode new protodevlin-like monsters attack. It's up to UN SPACY to team up with Blade (appeared in macross II) to fight the threat.
-
No excuse yamato now you have to make it! Bring on as many pics to show them. I want a 1D the most out of the 2 seaters. As the poll shows everyone wants it. It will also give a chance to make a pilot wearing non-unspacy uniform and minmay. All the planes hikaru flew have to be made. (1D being his first taste of valk usage)
-
You should sell them cheap on ebay to us. Then you have space for a future macross plus VF11 cannon fodder army.

Display Your Collections...
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to bryan_f_davis@yahoo.com's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Nice collection baronv. Kensei I would hate to have to paint those missiles, panel line all the valks, and sticker them all up. It would be good if you took them all out of thier boxes, transform them into battroid mode, and line them up into a formation and took some pics of the army all lined up. (similar to the rows of destroids you see in the tv series as they lined up for the daedalus attack.) Maybe you could hang some from the ceiling with a bit of wire in fighter mode. Ah think of all the possibilities of a war scene with that many valks... -
I don't own one but I think the shoulders are really huuuuge. I think if they copied the proportions of the banpresto they actually would have been better off. (just lower the leg joint so it meets the bulges at the side of the valk nose and shortens the height a little in battroid mode, since the banpresto looks a little too tall) I agree with everyone who has said include FP rather than as seperate parts. I don't need a fancy box since I am not the limited edition type guy who leaves things MIB. I'm more a display guy type. And for small scale stuff I want them all out of thier boxes and as cheap as possible. (as a result of the cheapness, you can mod a group of banpresto and make any valk you want: alaska base, stealth low vis etc) If you ever played army men as a little kid (remember those little plastic fixed posed world war 2 soldiers you buy in packs?) you know what I mean. I think the banpresto are like the posable equivalent of that: groups of battroids in various poses and stuff but in miniture size. It will be interesting to see if they ever get to do some gbp for this.

Another way is multiple income streams. Just sell all that stuff you know you never use to finance other things. I did this with my gamecube in the early days and every time a new good game comes out that I *need* to play I would buy a secondhand one just to play that game, and then sell it and the cube after I am finished. Then years later you buy back the cube at discounted cost and look for the major titles you missed at low prices. (because the market value of a game goes down very quickly. Everyone who wanted to play it has pretty much played it and ultimately wants to be rid of older stuff they own) This would only work if you know you won't be using stuff. (I've bought a lot of games in the past which I never even opened from the shrinkwrap because I was too busy to play em) This works with pretty much anything. Now if you can combine this with only choosing to wait for those big clearance sales you can save a lot. Space is limited so the price of things will fall. (but you must keep alert of the timing) I don't really have the much issue with simultaneous release that much anymore since it is only a matter of time that yamato reissue stuff. (roy got reissued 5 times didn't he?) It at least gives those who want the stuff now the option to get it all in one hit, you know what I mean? My advice is if you are a "completist" collector who can't afford it all in one go: get all the stuff you know that isn't popular and may be in danger of not getting reissued often first, and the other stuff later. (or you may find that you'll be eating the cost of high ebay price for the *rare rare rare* stuff later out of the seller's belief it is discontinued so the high cost is justified.)

Dam You Macross 7 Dam You #$%#$^#$&^$%&
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to deadghost's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm pretty sure it was early on in the series where max comments about basara. I think it goes something like: "He is on my level, but not quite as good as me when I was in my prime" (assuming he has lost some skill in his older age?) But basara had a clear shot of the Yellow Qrau and missed. (meaning he underestimated the pilot) Then after missing he got hit by that same Qrau in the back and front and all over the place. (not just a scratch) True he didn't die, just like max didn't die in the zentradi ship but I think max being sucked out into space (he wasn't retreating) was less humiliating than basara being hit and having to go in for repairs. Whereas when max engages milia it is the other way around: milia is pissed because she can't touch max (after underestimating humans and gloating to kamjin that he is so incompetant that humans outsmart him). My impression is this: Milia underestimated the skill of the pilot in the blue valk the same way Basara underestimated the skill of the pilot in the yellow Qrau. Basara might wear glasses but he is not as sharp in the mind as max imo. -
Roy also had one of them when he puts Hikaru and minmay under the forearm of his VF-1S and attaches the disconnected cockpit under his plane in the episode where Hikaru's 2 seater is stuck to the giant's hand. You'll note hikaru and minmay completely vanish in some parts of the scene. Many secrets of the OT gained from the ASS1 mustn't have all been revealed. How I think it works is it is like the holographic tech you see in DYRL and macross plus, but instead of projecting an image of minmay or sharon apple, instead it shows an image of the surface of the valk so it looked like hikaru and minmay were not actually attached to roy's plane when they really were. Since roy had access to all kinds of secret experimental technology he would have been first to make use of this stuff. But it was not publicly revealed in case the anti-un got thier hands on it. jk Roy had to drink a lot to help forget some of the stuff he had seen, and it was his way of dealing with all the strange things he saw that nobody believed were true. (ie floating rocks, dead aliens etc)

The angelbirds are talked about in the liner notes. (using sailor outfits like japanese school girl uniforms?) So it is a canon scheme. Stealth might actually be canon if you've seen the ep in the tv series where there is a black colored valk (or just in shadows?) but I bet it is a dark blue. I wouldn;t be surprised though if there were black painted scheme. Ivanov had a black SV-51 in macross zero so maybe there are similar ones for un spacy? edit: ^ Black VF-1 from episode 5.

Dam You Macross 7 Dam You #$%#$^#$&^$%&
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to deadghost's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well she would be between max and basara wouldn't she? If milia's rival (was it fleet of the strongest women episode? In this Basara is owned in a matter of seconds with even ray commenting that he couldn't avoid it all) was able to shoot basara and damage him enough to not be able to broadcast his music, (he had to go back for repairs) and milia has a better or equal record than her rival, and her rival respect milia, then I reason milia would sit higher than basara. Hikaru might be below roy, because doesn't he mention that it was him always needing help and stuff and being shot down? (or was that something I just remember from robotech?) -

But he prided himself so much on risk taking and being better than hikaru and leaving him behind. I think he kinda deserved to die. Sorry to all the roy fans...... If we could measure it in terms of luck: 1. Max is the luckiest - never dies. Not even basara is better than him 2. Basara - doesn't need to shoot his targets and goes into battle fighting PD. These are monsters that even reaction weapons are useless against FFS. Exedol crapped his pants. But unlike max he takes damage from milia's rival. (unlike roy he isn't leading a team or anything) So it is possible he lacks experience against more elite alien pilots to have allowed that to happen. 3. Dyson third luckiest - took on the whole sdf1 all by himself. Yang tells him the odds of survival and he goes in recklessly against the odds. Unlike max and basara though it is possible the AI was going easy on him and didn't really want to kill him because it reasoned that all Dyson wanted was a challenge. Maybe the AI was merely providing that challenge as a game for him to play and had not intended to actually attack him fully. After all the AI "loved" him. 4. Guld. He is zentradi so he has to die. Kinda like how in a horror movie the black guy is usually always first to go. just kidding. But yeah he is the bad guy of the two because of the advantages he has with better technology. (sort of like rocky V when rocky had to fight Drago in his country, with Guld being drago because of the advantages he has ) 5. Roy. Didn't die heroically the way guld did where he rammed his plane to take out the ghost which saved lives. Both in the movie and in the tv series, allowed himself to be taken by surprise. (remember one of the skills is spatial awareness which is probably what makes max so good - like a spiderman "spider sense")Also: Maybe he WAS drunk in the tv series based on his actions in macross zero where he drinks and has no problem with that, we'll never know eh? Just because we didn't see it happen onscreen doesn't mean he couldn't have sneaked a few in before that fight against the qrau grunts.. -
I figure this is great for people who just want a complete set of something (whether or not they like the color or character associated with it) from the show. Like when you see people display thier DYRL valks, now they have all the characters. (it was inevitable really)

Phren: Dynamite 7 episode 4. (screencap of Gamlin in black VF22S helping the police fight the whale poachers; who in turn are trying to kill the white whale which imo look a little like zentradi ships ) more here: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/macross7/vf-22s.htm ^ although there is a mistake there where it says it only has a single gunpod. So er yamato already have 3 recolors they could milk if they just alter the head to 22S. 1.Red for milia 2.Blue for Max 3.Black for Gamlin info on the vf22s from: http://macross.anime.net/mecha/united_nati...vf22/index.html It's a special ops valk. Yeah pretty much the head and the other stuff mentioned above. And maybe the cockpit because it doesn't have the BCS in it. (maybe they will get lazy and forget to change that though. Kinda like the TV CF with DYRL head turret for 1/48 vf1) In any case I want some strong wrists: include some non-posable hands too yamato!
-
Actually he does use vf22 but not in the tv series. I think it was in the ova or movie or something. In the tv series he has the vf17 (which I would also like to see) It's basically an all black vf22.
-
Well I do hope yamato get to do up the VF 22S from mac 7. You know the black one that gamlin had? I like the head of the VF22 a lot better. (then release max + milia color simultaneously) And this would also give them an excuse to do the armor for the vf11. (with massive gunpod and all) Will be interesting how yamato's skinny wrists will be able to support that! Solution: give us a pair of posable or non-posable robot hands with the PT hands.
