  1. Kinda like the CF deaths in the original mwhaha...
  2. Cool. Become a tv series valkaholic like me. Master of Puppets is one of my fave metallica albums. edit: Yeah don't put those dirty DYRL super parts on a tv valk. See what happens yamato? you have confused the new fans. Release tv Super valks instead of standalone tv valks from now on.. for eg: release 1. tv cf with tv super parts and correct arms and head, 2. a dyrl CF with DYRL super and DYRL strike parts etc ... as seperate releases for the fan to choose (goes without saying: include the correct pilot flight suit/space suit) ...and not a mutant mixture of both. (the current CF is a bastard child)
  3. If anyone gets it, post the pics of all the changes. So want to get one but so don't want to break it.
  4. I thought the panel lining looked pretty good on the GBP hands and stuff though. Oh well. Just tampo print then.
  5. Does anyone here still think the shoulders should be raised a little bit though? (at least as high as the cockpit canopy?) Yeah it will suffer in fighter mode because it would look less slim, but there is something about angled shoulder pads that I like rather than flat ones. The compromise might spoil one mode to make the other look a little more agressive/tough though. my list of things : -slightly longer wings (may help to offset the vertical chunkiness) -shoulders that look a bit more raised (don't know if this would improve it) -neck curve (somebody drew a line of where it could be altered which would improve the look. In all the lineart there is a curve that raises up a little)
  6. We are so hungry for yf-19 pics we could eat the dead horse.
  7. I still much prefer the original series because it took a more serious tone. ie when hikaru's friends die, and when he has to choose between the two girls while fighting to defend the human race from extinction and the big chance of him not coming back, and him fighting to protect minmay despite loving misa. And minmay loving her career to spend time with him... well, I thought all that conflict was what made it interesting. With 7 I never felt basara was in any real danger: very little casualties, and the focus on civilians living aboard the ship itself. It seemed a little slow paced and repetitive imo. Kind of like some epiodes were filler eps and it was all about basara this, basara that! (without me necessarily caring for basara because we know nothing about who he is) Despite the repetition the actual music was good though. I just prefer a more dark aproach to science fiction: that they are going off on some adventure and there is danger everywhere with people getting lost, dying, and the chance you may not live to return. But the spiritua farm project thing explained all that: the PD were using humans to feed from and had no interest in war so they just kept the cattle alive so they wouldn't need to find people and instead just grow them like in the matrix. If I had a choice between an ova that is more like Zero and Plus with DYRL level of detail and animation, or a series that is more like 7, I probably would choose the ova/movie if the money went into making the dogfights more crazy and detailed and realistic. For me, macross is still just a mecha show and all the other stuff is the bonus you get.
  8. Here's the bit where I think the nose rises a little and then falls down. If they could make that less straight.. Good point. Take the eternal "small hands" comments for example. We know bigger hands for 1/48 would not fit into the sleeve but to some people who like to display in battroid mode, we will sacrifice a bit of the PT for aesthetics. It might not bother others, but it can dramatically change the look of the valk such that it would be worth cheating a little. (hands that are bigger than what could fit inside) If lineart can cheat: (ie have smooth sides on the yf21 in figher mode) toys should be allowed to as well to look as good as they can in 3d to match what they do in the anime. I just think it is all about balance in all 3 modes.. The argument works both ways though: after all, we got the vf0 in PT due to complainers and whiners opting against swappable parts VF0 "toy". (if we want models we will buy and build those. At some point the majority has got to draw a line in the sand for what they'll buy and accept as a PT toy, and what is considered a fragile model only dedicated to a single mode for a fictional mecha that changes shape to look cooler for whatever the artist/animator finds most aesthetically pleasing for that moment in time) Having said all this, I think lineart should be more a "guide" for mecha with lots of anime magic rather than a strict unbending rule. Even with mecha not thought of to have much anime magic in thier design are still susceptible to deformity in modes: The growing and shrinking nose of the vf1 is a classic example. The lineart makes the nose really stubby in battroid because it looks cooler. (so I can forigve a toy here for not being "lineart accurate" if the nose is actually much longer, if only it meant better fighter mode. It all goes back to my argument of "balance" and my preference for a toy able to bend the rules a bit in order to look more pleasing to the eye just like in the anime where the robots do all kinds of crazy unrealistic poo and lines can bend and deform as if it were human skin )
  9. If the battroid mode looks really skinny, I just hope the joints are going to be strong enough that it can stand up and support itself. -Big feet will mean it can keep its balance in gerwalk modes and stuff. Perhaps the compromise was to make thick legs from the side? The yf21 tiny feet are what make it unstable in gerwalk. -stubby nose means more space for pilot and cockpit. Maybe the 1/48 needed bulbous canopy for that reason? Also makes the nose less pointy in battroid? -fat neck = compromise for long gear: so it doesn't droop down in fighter mode looking sad and depressed. Unless I see it in all modes I'm going to think it is chunky. (that won't be so bad in some modes though. If all the battroid mode is, is a skeleton then it won't look accurate to battroid lineart which makes it beefy and stocky. You got to wonder, how skinny is skinny? When they get to the vf11, my guess is it will be really fragile and collapse under the weight of the GBP.)
  10. Yeah but he is saying "this can't be real!" as if to deny that it could possibly be true. (at this point the giant is lying there dead. So he can't be shocked at the danger the giant poses to him at this point) Roy is responding with: "but it IS real". So I figure it's like he has just seen a ghost, is freaked out, and now his mind is doubting what he is seeing despite what his eyes say. If it was just the fact that the giant couldn't be killed he would have commented on that. Something like "holy sh|t, sempai!! These aliens are tough mofos. What are they made out of? I emptied 200 bullets into 1 mecha and it still kept coming." And roy would say: "They were gentically modified zombie variants of the alien which feel no pain. I am not surprised it could still walk even after you ripped a thousand new a$$holes into its mecha." Yeah me too. But maybe with all the releases coming out this would anger all those people who can barely keep up. Something for the future perhaps?
  11. huh? But you compared it on the toys section didn't you? http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/y...-comparison.htm
  12. Maybe they could use grey then?
  13. When SK eventually gets to do Masterpiece G1 Jetfire in low vis color, can he please make him look something like this?: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models...48_ultimate.htm just kidding..
  14. See the thing with me is this: I'm not really a typical "toy collector". Just a fan of macross. After 20 years of not following the market, I just stumbled upon these and it was like water in a desert. I really don't care if I have to pay a high price for it, so long as it meets a minimum standard of quality. I won't be buying every single VF1 toy that was ever made. The minute a better version of the vf1 toy comes out, I have no probs selling what I got to get the upgrade to clear space for the new. But for some people, there was a long drought of nothing for macross. Maybe this is how they justify the price? It's a 20 year old series, people were paying huge money for average looking 80s toys, ($1000 for a chunky munkey?) and the 1/48 is a welcome sight during the time of "the drought". Given the age of the series, how little attention it gets, they are just grateful that there are toys to begin with. "Beggars can't be choosers" situation. (like all the robotech fans who still linger on to the hope of a PT beta ) I think for a lot of "fans" the word "overpriced" may not even exist to them. A man starving in the desert will pay a huge price for water since it is highly sought after, and the only thing that matters to them for the immediatey time. Now for transformers and gundam: this isn't "water" in a desert. It is very easy to find and therefore common.
  15. I'm not one of them: I plan my purchases one at a time and think in the long term. (that's why I am saving for macross plus stuff now) Its not a numbers game for me. For those with valks in the three digits....I don't know where you get the space to stock that many. They are just well off? 2 digits: maybe not such a big deal. There is lot of variations in the tv series. If all you collect are 1/48 and nothing else, I doubt this is a hard goal to attain. I have an upper limit on what I would buy. For example the 1/60 monster that was being made but not released? No way! I don't collect gundam perfect grade kits, transformers (apart from the occasional alt which are cheap), star wars or any other masterpiece-grade stuff. Just macross. (and only recently into it, I missed the boat on the 1/60 line)
  16. Exactly: if you collect other lines how can you then say to the macross fans: where do you get all this money from? Err.... That is like me saying to a transformers person: where do you get all that money to get so many masterpiece primes or SS? I mean if I were you I probably wouldn't have money to afford it. But I can live with just alternators/MP/macross and the occasional revoltech figure. I only want the best rendition of something and if I don't like something I get rid of it. Why hoard stuff when you can make space for the best? Also it is possible to make sacrifices in other hobbies. So there is no excuse imo. I buy dvd's and games and what not and can cut spending there and look for bargains or trade with others over paying full price. (these are ways you can save and avoid waste.) The main thing about valks is the boxes are big so you end up eating the cost in shipping rather than the toy. So that's my complaint. Smaller but stronger boxes would be better for all and allow the fan to use whatever saving there on more of the toy than the shipping. If there was competition and I was a company that made 1/48 valks, the first thing I would do is make more compact box and get into a price war against yamato. But its the HG issue. So long as we are forced to import, and so long as yamato can only cater to japan, there isn't much you can do.
  17. I have nothing against naked chics. Since they are aimed at adult collector right? It's more that I would much prefer a fully developed woman than a flat chested pre-pubecenst kid, you know what I am saying? heh. I don't see what the attraction is to the really really really young. If given a choice to hang out with one, I would choose to hang out with cammy, than some babyish little kid.
  18. I try that with the variable monster when I get sick of 1 mode. But there are some toys that when you transform them, paint may chip off. (I had that problem with 1/72 yf21FP.)
  19. Here's is my thing: if the valk needs to be displayed with different weapons loadout it is less annoying in the long run to have 1 of each. 1 for gbp/armor 1 for naked (armed with atmospheric missiles and all or just no missiles with wings swept back for high speed) 1 super (strike pack, super pack or ghost booster) and usually loaded with weapons for space and with thrusters for better manueverbility there. + any head turret variation. (in the case of zero the wings for 0D) Variety adds more visual appeal to your display. It's why I bought CF 1As to look good near the anime colored valks and balance the overly bright ace pilot colors to give a sense there is more than just the main characters who fly them. + any cool repaint. (ie stealth or low vis) Usually for realism or just because it is cool to have a special ops mecha. Also sometimes mecha look better when they appear to blend in with scenary and not attract attention regardless. There is also a psycological reason: A black vf22 imo has a more menacing appearance than a brightly colored one. Green Qrau looks cooler than a red qrau, from the point of view that these are armored machines of death. The red might look cool if you consider them more than a machine but a thing of beauty: like some flashy sportscar. That might be why some like the anime colors. (ie max/milia vf1 super valks for example.) Depends on your point of view. But you got to have at least 1 dull (low vis) or flashy (high vis) version of the model. Although not all can afford multiples: I at least try to get stuff that will look different if you wanted to display them all at once. (I have no interest in buying multiples otherwise) You won't see my put 2 max 1A just standing there with the same thing. Rather I go for a display where you might have a team leader and/or squad leader, standing near a few grunt CF for a complete scene. Think of the start of macross when the different regults with different weapons (scout regult, naked regult, ones with heavy weapons and missiles, plus a glaug to lead them) were all working together: that's kind of why I buy these. I want at least a good cross section of the different ones. Also why I want my VF-1D! 1/48 deserve more than just single seaters.
  20. Cool. Anyone out there know of sellers who have stock of them? Damn all pics of it are tempting. Eventually I need at least 2 roy: 1 for fighter because it looks so good in that mode, and another for battroid when or if the Reactive armor is made for it. (going to have to be a stiff joint one)
  21. If only macross collectors got a naked lucy figure (or more apropriately sharon apple?) with each macross plus valk purchase. Now that would be good. This is more what I'd be into: http://www.yamatotoysusa.com/YUS%20Web/Pag...roduct_Page.htm Go cammy!
  22. The question shouldn't be: "why would they hide the fact the aliens were giants?" It should be: "Why is it so hard to believe that the government would keep detailed knowledge about the aliens a secret?" To me it just seems obvious: There is no good to come if you panic them and let them know too much to make them scared. You don't want people running around the street screaming: WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE! and telling others to hide in the hills and people going out of control and maybe even losing thier mind. (think of the crazy guy in halo who just encountered those "flood" aliens.) You want them to remain calm and not think the end of the world is coming and reassure them that everything is ok and that we are in control of the situation. And as for other things: the UN must be ultra paranoid about spies after ivanov defecting and stealing the transformation info and using the weapons against them. So you would expect that there would be some secrets kept close to thier chest for security reasons. Maybe there was no good to come if people knew that they were paying for some "experimental" fighter which transformed into a humanoid form since it would be a waste of money in thier mind, so it has to be kept a black project. But at the same time you don't want to tell them that you are building them to fight giant humanoid aliens either, so you are stuck and better off not telling them everything. Keep in mind it is 20 times more expensive than a non-transforming destroid. And remmeber that part where the mayor was angry at global for not taking the sdf1 off into space because of all the money the tax payer spent into the ship? People want to see that their money is being put to good use. The problem is: You can't tell them about the robot mode, without also telling them this mode is for killing giants, which would cause a panic and make people lose faith that we could actually stand against such a race. I just rewatched those episodes where hikaru encountered his first giant alien and yep: his reaction was of shock at the sight that something like it could exist. (true he had just been in a plane crash and shot at, but I think the alien was the thing that really spooked him) That kind of thing would send the population into a panic if they were told about it all at once. I know for sure I would be frightened if I saw a giant human. I would just freeze and run for the nearest hiding spot. Try to imagine if it were real: It would be scary as hell. I stick to my opinion that the airshow was only to dmonstrate to the public the manueverability of the new fighters, and not reveal the other features (such as transformation) of the vf-1.

    M+ Valks

Yeah I hope it comes with a little stand for the gun for posability reasons too. I plan on posing mine in a "floating in space" pose in the air. If they don't I will use some wire to keep it up like I do for banpresto valk in fighter mode. Or maybe they will go the way of MP trasnformers with "papercraft trailer" and make it a cardboard gunpod!
  24. Is alt convoy any good as an alternator? I managed to find him in one of the stores I go to. The main issue for me is he has those evangelion type things for shoulders. I think it looks bad. I wish he had a different transformation but the head is what makes him cool. It's PRIME!! As for loliprime: heh japan is weird... see the credits to later episodes of maross7 for pedo softcore porn. Do we really have to see mylene naked? I don't care how old she is in the show, she has the body of an 11 year old kid FFS..
  25. I guess it is the same for those who complain about the yf19 gunpod being tiny or complaining about fighter mode having short wings. We all have our fave shape. For example about the length of the wings of the 1/60 yf19, maybe the short wings were what SK intended? (Imo it makes little difference if the wings are a little bit longer but for those who like them long it is a deciding factor in whether they will like it or not) *sigh* can't please everyone..
