Gundam Figure Thread - Newtype GN-002
Scyla replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I received my Metal Build Exia Avalanche with the Dash Parts add-on set last week that I bought from Jungle. Sadly it is the first dud from the Metal Build line that I got. Nothing major but there are four paint imperfections. Three of them on the blue plastic on the shoulder pauldrons that are painted white. One of them is a nasty scratch that is super visible from the front. Two others look more like dirt got onto the part during assembly. I don't want to try to remove them because I fear that I might mess up the white paint even more. That got me thinking it it wouldn't be a better idea only to buy opened items from Jungle since they where inspected before (the one I bought was still sealed). Also the waist swivel on mine is a bit too loose for my liking. Does anyone know how to fix that? The joint seems not accessible for future without the danger to mess up the figure. Besides that I think the Avalanche Exia has probably the best finish of the Metal Builds I own. I adore the powder blue finish on the plastic and the slight gold flaking in the yellow paint is a nice touch but I probably would have preferred a similar powder yellow color on them. Love all the small mechanical arms that helps the suite to handle his arsenal of melee weapons. I also think the suite design needs the add-on parts since the legs look weekly without them. I'm bummed out that the clamps for the feet are not integrated into the ski booster. I keep them attached when the skis are in their idle position since they don't stand out. Now my Metal Build collection is nearing completion since I only need the Seven Sword (please reissue the suite Bandai), the Freedom Gundam an the 00 Raiser which I will probably buy next year. Besides the fact that the Metal Build suits don't transform the line really provides all the qualities I look for in a collectible piece. The best thing is that they all come with their own custom stand which is something that I feel the Metal Composite line is sorely missing. If I had one wish for the line in the future it would be to bring all the things that make the line great to the UC suites. I would kill for a Metal Build Ver Ka. Nu/Hi-Nu Gundam and a Sazabi.- 6025 replies

I love the new packaging! I want them all. On that note I'm really miffed that Delta didn't have a second add-on armor set or more variety for the weapon container. That would result provide more options for display. Oh well I can still hope they add them in the movies if they do produce them.

I don't understand what happened here. Black is not that difficult to paint. This is such a weird line. Their Sphinx was what the Transformers Masterpiece line should be from there it was a steady decline. Backdraft was a QC hell and Terraegis has also a bunch of issues. What baffles me most (besides the paint issue) is the gap in the back of the toy. There is literally no reason for it to be there other to make the inside of the feet more rounded. There would be other ways to achieve that without these compromises. Looking at the image of Terraegis I assume that the whole camper top is a translucent piece of plastic. I wonder why so many toy manufacturers choose to do it that way. wouldn't it make more sense to manufacture the windows and the cover in two molds and glue the window piece to the inside of the opaque framing? You would reduce the number of paint apps. Avoid the issue seen on the image and reduce the number of qc screw ups. I swear half the windows on my Backdraft have paint overspray on the translucent piece. Oh well December is an expensive month (damn you Christmas) so I will wait and see how MMC reacts to that issue. These toys rarely sell out anymore so I can be patient. I'm sad that this is reaction to the OcularMax line only two releases after Sphinx. I was so hype for that line after I held Sphinx in hand even more after Takara change their designs on the Masterpiece line. Sphinx seems to be the outlier of the line.- 9275 replies

The reason why Seraphicus has these ghostly swords is that he gave the swords to Hexatron. I guess the swords are the ethereal remains of these swords.- 9275 replies

I just ordered the SHF Ryu and Chun-Li. I really hope they do at least the cast of Super Street Fighter II!. I need a Ken and a Cammy. I'm sure they can't resist doing a Cammy.

I think the engineering on Inferno is amazing that is why I ordered Grapple. However I'm not a fan of the cartoon aesthetic. They ought to be robots in disguise. The discrepancy between the realistic cab and the plain rest of the toy is also jarring. The pieces molded in gray plastic looks terrible. This kind of plastic finish shouldn't be present on any visible parts on an collectible toy that is as expensive as MP Inferno. He will also look out of place with MP 10 - 25. Even if the QC on my Backdraft is quite sad I still think he is better in every aspect besides the ladder engineering. He is also cheaper. To bad his build quality is not up to par with their Sphinx.- 17164 replies

Can someone explain to me how Tamashii Web Exclusive stuff works for the Metal Build Gundam items. Is the process identical to the Macross items. I.e. the preorder window stays open till a given date and you can put our order in through one of the middle man sites (e.g. NY). Or do the Web Exclusive items sell out during the pre order window and I have to be fast with getting my order in? I also assume ordering through NY you have to pay up-front.- 6025 replies

Peaughs review of FansToys Sovereign: It seems that he is a high quality collectible which I like. Two things I don't like: the mini "stock" of his arm cannon and the mini wheels on the back of this threads. I generally don't know why you want your collectible toys to have them since rolling him around might scratch the paint and they destroy the sculpt on the threads. Oh well one more thing on the list of transforming robots that I don't understand: light-up feature, the length of extending ladders, small rolling wheels on toys that are not cars.- 9275 replies

Yay the Bastards are funded. I'm curious what we are gonna get. Looking at past Kickstarter toys the Truforce Mega Man X is probably the best action figure in my collection and I want more of that.- 9275 replies

I agree that it was easier to preorder the Frontier Renewal Valkyries. Nippon Yasan had always more stock and the window was open when I was able to preorder. Now with the Delta Valkyries the preorder windows are open when I'm either at work or sleeping. This is not helping. Luckily I was able to get a VF-31J and SV-262 during the first preorder window at HLJ. However I fear that my luck will run out with the later releases.

I would love to have a MB Nu- Hi-Nu Gundam toys. They are by far my favorite suite designs especially the latest MG Ver. Ka kits. If Bandai is planning to release them I hope they come up with a better solutions to snap the Fin Funnels together.... I wonder if a MB Sazabi would be too cost prohibitive to do...- 6025 replies

So the Unrustable Bastards Kickstarter campaign goes into its final week. The lowered some of the stretch goals so if you needed some more incentives there you go: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/882339483/mayhem-mekanics-presents-the-unrustable-batards If they reach $ 70K till the end the homage to Kanedas bike is unlocked: They want to do all the logos but they are not sure if they can pull it off. They probably will change them to different names with similar fonts: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/mayhem-mekanics-present-unrustable-bastards.947794/page-25#post-14089720- 9275 replies

I'm jealous! I truly am but as much as I want to own one I would have to rent a bigger flat to accommodate this piece.

What do you think about the GFF Unicorn Gundam? I'm actually interested in a transforming version of the design but I couldn't pull the trigger on the ones over at BBTS because I hear that they are not as good as the Metal Build ones. They also look really lanky in Destroy Mode. -

That is an awesome price on the Megaman X. But I can't pull the trigger. November is just too expensive right now. I wonder if Truforce will release any more figures of the Megaman X line. I would love a Zero, the Robot Masters and a re-shelled Full Armor Mega Man X. I got the reissue of the Robot Damashii Kshatriya yesterday and man it is a big toy. Looking at it on the shelf with the other Unicorn RD it looks almost too big for a cohesive display. This means my RD Unicorn collection is finished. Maybe I flesh it out with a Unicorn Mode Gundam if I find one.
