  1. I also think that the 1/60 scale is a good scale for PT Valkyries I think. It's large enough to include sturdy parts and transformation as well as good gimmicks, line-art accuracy, anime accurate decal printings and mold details. I would assume that a 1/72 VF-19 for example would be not worth the asking price because the development (developing the same toy in a smaller scale with the same features would mean more work) and production costs (due to more potential mistakes while assembling and painting the toy) would increase thus resulting in a toy that is smaller but might cost the same or more. Material costs are not that big of a deal in the first wave of production. Please keep in mind that the Bandai 1/72 Plamo of the VF-1 is a kit that comes without paint and unassembled. The 1/48 on the other hand are cool because they are so big but some collectors (myself included) would buy less toys because the run out of display space much quicker. And while material costs might not be the biggest contribution to the end price a 1/48 VF-19 might cost more. Also with a 1/48 scale a manufacturer might think twice to develop and produce an unpopular variant. So I feel that 1/60 hits the sweet spot regarding PT Valykries.
  2. Now that May has arrived I'm eagerly waiting for the release of the YF-29 Super Parts for this Valkyrie. Still four more weeks to go.
  3. Mine is still in Osaka! Damn you Golden Week!
  4. Some reports indicate that they fixed the wing pegs so they don't pop out during transformation. That might vary from toy to toy.
  5. Got the shipping notice yesterday. Should arrive hopefully at the same as the VF-17S from Yamato so I can compare both of them.
  6. Don't stick things into things where they don't belong! Nice find.
  7. As I stated before I do like the blueish hue on the promotion pictures better then how the toy looks in this review. However I'm excited to hold the toy in my hands since it will be the first rendition of the VF-171 that is in my collection.
  8. Thanks for posting IXTL. Are the instructions different form the VF-171EX Alto Custom?
  9. Besides the obvious reasons like the design/shape/color-scheme the toy has to fit into my collection. That leads straight to the topic of collection building but that was not asked for. So the toy itself should be an actual toy so it should have play value i.e. it is well articulated/gimmicky/transformable. Then because I don't have infinite space it should have presence because I like my cabinets not filled with a bunch of small toys that distract the eye but with few selected exhibits and it should not be part of a giant series. As I said I don't have much room but I also like to have the complete line of toys when I buy one entry in the line. The Yamato 1/60th Macross Plus line would be a good fit for my collection because it only consists of three toys. I feel that the 1/60th Macross toys whether from Bandai or Yamato hit a sweet spot in the attributes stated above. A huge plus is also that I really like the Macross shows and OVAs so I have an emotional attachment to the toys so I can appreciate them besides great engineering (which I enjoy a lot being an engineer myself). Of course there are the occasional spikes where I buy a toy (or a statue/model) because I really like the design but those are seldom. A good example would be the Evil Doppelganger Black Rodimus Masterpiece which I bough because the color scheme is awesome and I thought the transformation would be cool. Of course I snapped of a leg during the first transformation because I wasn't aware of the fused leg issue.
  10. How can Ozma look so dynamic with that Armor on. I envy him! The pictures look great! Now I have the urge to tighten the joints on mine to create such poses.
  11. Awh Bandai you never stop to amaze me.
  12. The VF-171 doesn't seem to have any of the problems that the version 1 VF-25s had. Line art accurate Designed with Super Parts in mind Sturdy material Some sporadic QC issues Besides the somewhat tricky transformation people seem to have no problems with it Seems to have sold well So I would doubt that Bandai sees the need to redo them except releasing a reissue but because Bandai are a bunch of crazy people you never know what happens next.
  13. Thanks for the clarification shawnlee. I should make it more clear that with Bandai reissues I meant reissues of web shop exclusives.
  14. He means that you find a proxy buying service of your liking and send them these links so the proxy can buy them for you, add a mark-up and shipping and then sending it to you. There might be also units available at the on-line retailers on release date due to customers canceling their preorders.
  15. I don't know if you ever get a Quarter release with bigger Valks because they are already way to huge for the scale of the Quarter itself. There was a 1/250 (?!?) fighter collection from Bandai that included the Frontier Valkyries. If you want something in that scale you should might want to take a look at these. I figured out that much. I would love a renewal Quarter with bright colors (the one on the current toy just look incredibly drab), a secure locking mechanism for cruiser mode and a flight deck storage solution that doesn't require additional parts.
  16. Last time I checked NY still had some available. They where even discounted as far as I remember.
  17. I have to agree the photos of the VF-19F look really stunning. Great job!
  18. I don't know about that. The Armored and Super Parts where Tamashii Web Shop exclusives and as far as I know Bandai reissue does not very often if at all. For example the didn't reissue the Super Parts for the YF-29 when the re releases the actual Valkyrie.
  19. Ok I bit the bullet and ordered a VF-17S..... awaiting the delivery desperately.... and now I'm thinking I should order a VF-22S Max Type... oh look there is one over at Mandarake.
  20. These are only the Armored Parts not the Valkyrie itself. Think of it as a new dress for a Barbie. There are two add-on sets for the VF-25s Super and Armor Parts so be aware of what you buy. http://www.nippon-yasan.com/lang-en/macross/4884-macross-f-dx-chogokin-vf-25f-messiah-valkyrie-saotome-alto-custom-renewal-version-reissue.html This is the toy itself. [edit: ] Man I should have bought the VF-25F Armored Parts when no reissue was announced. *sigh* If Bandai re-releases the Armored Parts for Alto I might buy one so I can get better intake covers and a correctly colored lining for the crotch armor.
  21. Well if their in a zero gravity environment you need some kind of magnetic boots so you don't fly out into the void. These mechanisms would clearly be a danger to any kind of sensitive technical equipment. So for me it makes perfect sense that in a scenario like this "No Step" signs on the underside of the wing have some kind of benefit. In regards of Chronocidal point you can retcon anything into anything with enough imagination. The white Skull and Crossbones on the white YF-29 Anniversary might be to trick the enemy so they doesn't know that an ace pilot is flying the Valkyrie. So they underestimate the piloting skills and are being easily shot down. But because the markings are still their the pilot can feel like a bad ass because of it.
  22. Well in space there is no gravity so a technician or the pilot might actually step on the underside of the wings when the do fixes in a weightless environment. Far-fetched but in some crazy scenario still possible. On the other hand I doubt that the person who was in charge of the markings was having this thought when the tampo printing layout was made.
  23. I have to agree I just can't get enough of posing and transforming the toy. I just can't get over the lacking Gerwalk-Mode but the VF-19S sits on the desk in a deep kneeling pose aiming his gun. Quite awsome! Gerwalk-Mode would be cool when posing the toy on a stand but I don't have one. Also the VF-19 seems so heavy that know Yamato stand can hold it firmly. But those are nitpicks and for cool Gerwalk toys I have a VF-25S Renewal Armored Messiah. Loving my VF-19S and it makes me want to buy more Yamato M7 releases. [edit: ] Is it safe to pose the toy for a longer period of time on one leg? The angle joints already seem to loosen up for Gerwalk. I'm a little bit worried and don't want to make it worse.
  24. No announcement yet but you can fit the old Tornado Packs onto the Renewal Valkyries. Most parts fit out of the box but you have to mod the leg and arm armor so it fits securely. Here you find a description how to do it. http://gbmshop.blogspot.de/2011/11/how-to-equip-tornado-pack-ver1-on-vf.html
