  1. While waiting for the next Macros Frontier I sat down and watched macZero all the way through and on a big screen for the first time. It's actually a pretty cool ride with lots of characterization and an involved plot. It does feel truncated but so does MacII. Aside from the missing 5th episode, the last episode as it exists is a real head scratcher. There is a big dump of narration about what the AIPHOS/APHOS/AFOS actually is. What we are shown happening at the end is a cause for debate. A Special Edition or something could definitely make it more satisfying. And certainly the quality of animation and music is exceptional.
  2. Mac II's not perfect but then again alot of it's flaws - uneven animation quality, rushed/truncated story, derivation plot, can be leveled at Mac 0, Mac+, heck even SDF:M. I think it's just as worthy as any other entry. To me the plot makes more sense in Mac II than in Mac+ but that's just my opinion.
  3. Or perhaps Megaroad 1's real destination was not made public. Megaroad 1 was humanity's lone hope to survive and colonize space beyond Earth. It would have be almost as bad as the SW1 holocaust if it had been ambushed by rogue Zentraedi. So they only said "Yeah were head to the center of the Galaxy" and then went a different way. But we've never seen anything on screen about Megaroad 1. The website timeline is "official" but it's been changed before IIRC. Still it's kind of strange they can't be consistent on this one important point.
  4. The shapes and the way it's put together remind me of LEGO. Which I guess it should because SK prototypes his mecha in LEGO.
  5. They're an even bigger scale. If you mean the Regult and Glaug on the 1st page, they are big enough to seat a 6" action figure. A 1/200 scale regult is only 3.5" so a 1/100 would be 7". These ones stand about 16" IIRC - about 3 times as tall as the matchbox Destroids. Mine are packed so I can't measure them but I'd guess they are something over 1/50 maybe even close 1/35. Justing roughing it out, 16m (fullsize Glaug) divided by 16 inches is around 1/40.
  6. You can't really call them prototypes because these are the same toys that were in production from Matchbox a few years earlier. Playmates just bought the tooling and started making them - mostly to say "In Your Face, FASA" because of the BattleTech lawsuit. I know playmates re-released the destroids in original and funky colors. I never saw a playmates version of the Glaug and Regult. I have the Matchbox versions so I know they are the same toys.
  7. Hmm. I just assumed it was an Einstein R&D Science ship since it was the same shape.
  8. WTF would be consistent with Anti-Culture or 'Not part of my limited military clone experience and I find it startling.'
  9. Cool. So where are the 1/60 Destroids and Zent' Pods so I can wargame with them?
  10. The MAC II Monster in SDF is single form only. The advanced 3 form Konig Monster appears in the Japan only PS1 video game Macross VFX2.
  11. The U.N. program probably used used Zentraedi technology. Zentraedi "micronizing" seem to transfer the whole personality. Then again Zentraedi micronizing/macronizing seems to dissolve the original body. Who's to say how the cloning program post SW1 worked? It's not documented on screen. I agree about Max and Millia - medical Overtechnology seems to be the simplest explanation. Sorry - we're well off topic now...Quick, somebody slag Macross 7 then we can call the thread closed!
  12. I don't think it has a literal translation. I think it's just "The Culture!?" expressing surprise and alarm like if you said "The Plague!?" or "Another Robotech vs. Macross Thread?!"
  13. Hmm cloning. It's funny that cloning isn't really mentioned in Mac+ or Mac7 but it must have been going on to populate all those colony fleets from 2000-2050. It's inferred in the timeline but I don't think it's explicitly stated in the show. It would cause a number of narrative problems. Why not clone a whole Spacy Valkyrie Squadron of Max Geniuses? But cloning could explain why Max and Miriya don't look 60ish in Mac7 - they're not the originals. MacZero just didn't come together. Maybe MacF will explain some of it's mysteries.
  14. Best Xmas present I've had in years. It looks like this series has great potential. If it borrows some good details from Gundam mecha all the better. At least the bad guys aren't devil/clown/elves!
  15. I'm guessing from that picture of Sheryl that our theories about this being an export friendly series are out the window. Even if it doesn't have the UN Spacy Kite or the Macross name I can't think of a US TV network that would know what to do with a TV series with giant fighting robots (=kids) and animated boobs (=nerdy men). Well okay maybe Spike TV or G4/TechTV. Hmmm. Maybe there is a place for this show!
  16. I have not seen Eureka 7 but I'm sad to hear they couldn't come up with a good translation. how can you make a TV with a name borrowed form another language but not know how the word in pronounced? If I remember my college Nihongo then Yu Ri Ka should be very close and easily recognizable to english speakers.
  17. I don't want to get Graham in trouble, but I've just gone back thru the thread looking for the "Other Line" of model he mentioned in our wargaming exchange. I don't see anything. Has he let something else split out? Do you mean the G-Nu line as opposed to the the 1/60 line?
  18. "Other" new line? That sounds promising. I'll consider any line that lets me purchase pre-painted Regults. 1/200 would be good since I already have the Nichimos and Gashpons. Nobody has ever none a 1/200 NosJaedel Ger. But I'd rather not be severed...
  19. You guys know what I want. Regults, Destroids, and VF1 Battroids all in the same scale so I can wargame with them.
  20. The nature of the anomaly has not been stated. It just appeared as an event in the official timeline recently. I think it's just branching point between "our" universe and the Macross universe. Or it might be something else. Who knows what they have in mind.
  21. And Look - whoever was deriding LEGO. Kawamorisan is using LEGO to prototype his latest Valkyrie design. 'nuff said.
  22. I have to point out that's pretty far off the mark. Though much of LEGO is sold in kits today you can still get assorted buckets and it's all interchangeable. Secondly LEGO is used extensively in prototyping toys and models. I believe the transforming Konig VB6 Monster Destroid toy from VFX2 was first designed and built in LEGO before it was put into production.
  23. It sounds like instead of numbers they began giving the fleets letters. Macross "F" aka Frontier and it's neighbor Macross "G" for Galaxy.
