  1. There were Veritechs F/G/B and the Spartan (Phalanx) and the excalibur(tomahawk) that got into production before Palladium had a hissy fit with dark horse models. There were on line pics of them here Macross Minis
  2. What's Wrong with MACROSS: SPACE WAR ONE
  3. Re: Scales I'm a a wargamer and if I could get a complete series of models in any one scale, yes I WOULD PLAY WITH THEM. The closest I have is 1/200. I have everything in that scale now except a NosJaedel-Ger. I only have few a Regult pods, however. I wish I could buy them direct 'cuz I'd get about 100 of the newest bandai gashapon regults. They are just right size for me. My 1/200 Monster? I have the diecast one. It's close enough for me. In what games is it established the monster can transform?
  4. Well I guess I'll install VO since I don't actually read Japanese. I think somebody mentioned a patch or tweak to get English read outs. What is that called?
  5. I want to try out Macross VO. I know where to get the downloads. I can set my PC language to japanese. What else do I need to know? what is VOXP as opposed to VO?
  6. I was able to get the macross 7 complete series torrent here: http://www.boxtorrents.com/ Do a search for Macross.
  7. I've completed my Bandai 1/55 collection by getting a VF-1J reissue. I notice unlike the VF-1A, the Hikaru special does not come with a subsitute cockpit cover for battloid mode. I thought this would be a no brainer. Why supply a cover for some and not others in this series?
  8. I'd love to see a side story set on a colony world (like mac+) that featured destroids. I can imagine a plot something like the seven samurai: A motley group of mecha pilots band together to defend an agricultural settlement from pirates including macronized Zentraedi and N-Ger's and Q-Rau's. Hmm. The Mechnifacient Seven? The Destroids Ride Again? A Fistful of Mecha?
  9. They will also only ship to the US. No reason given. They just say no international order. Their prerogative, but they obviously don't want my business. (I'm Canadian).
  10. They are approximately 1/200 - very close in sizze to the Nichimo model kits. You won't find a picture of a Nichimo Q-Rau because they never got around to making one. Or a Nousjadel-Ger. BTW I'm in the market for Regult pods if anybody has extra!
  11. Because only the mind of disciplined Zentraedi elite pilot could control it? The risk must have been out weighted by other considerations for him to be accepted.
  12. Yes, its kind of a paradox. I guess the VF-0 is older or contemporary in the Macross timeline. In reality the VF-0 was designed in the last couple of years for cutting edge CGI animation and the VF-1 was made in the 80's for cheap limited cell animation. I'm not sure how the VF-0 could have been made to look retro.
  13. Well HG didn't pull their version of Protoculture completely out of thin air. Somebody wanted to know why have humanoid transforming mecha in Macross. My answer is Overtechnology must work better in that form. It must "want" to take human shape. BTW Macross didn't invent the term Protoculture either. It was coined by a Japanese primatologiest to describe what she saw happening with snow monkeys. They have some behaviors that they teach to their offspring - the first steps towards culture - hence Proto culture.
  14. Just to broaden the historical perspective a bit.... In the pacific war, the US submarine fleet devasted the japanese shipping, outdoing the german u-boats several times over. The food and resource situation in Japan in the last months of the wars was really, really grim. The Emperor and his civilian cabinet had been advocating surrender for some time but were overruled by Tojo. Even after the 2 A bomb attacks, Tojo would not surrender. The Emperor had to make a recording of the surrender and have it smuggled out of the Imperial palace to a radio station. Only after it had been annouced on the radio by the emperor did the Japanese military surrender. It's a very complicated issue. Certainly the Japanese military were not "good guys" - look at what they did in Nanking. But would the US have used the A Bomb in Europe? I don't know. I do know Japanese animation is full on apocalyptic explosions - everything tends to "blow-up" at the end of the tv show or movie.
  15. That's right. Overtechnology = Soylent Green. MMMMM Soylent Green....
  16. If you want a rational internal to the Macross universe, I suggest this: Overtechnology is associated with the humanoid form. When you apply Overtechnology to a design task, you almost always end up with device capable of taking human form. Somehow its easier to create Overtechnology devices that have a human shape, than it is to NOT give them a human form. I see Overtechnology as a force which connects humans with their mecha. That's my rational. I guess it's a way for the shows creators to give inanimate objects a human-like quality - a spirit or kami.
  17. I think Guld was selected because, border-line insane or not, he was the only one who could fly the prototype. I have not seen the OVA for awhile, but I rented the movie a couple months back. The topic starter is right - the "plot" of the movie is impossible to follow. It was weak in some places in the OVA, but the character's motivations in the movie are impossible to understand. Example: Even with Guld chancing him, how can Assamu possibily justify trashing major buildings in Macross city? What is Sharon Apple trying to do at the films climax? These are not adequately explained in the movie.
  18. I hadn't seen the OVA for awhile, and I rented the movie. The production values were great but the last half didn't make any sense. The dropped alot of important plot points and stuck in a bunch of big explosions. The Zentraedi is pissed at Assamu so he trashes a whole city? Where did that come from? I'd definitely reccommend the OVA over the movie.
