The General Movie Thread
electric indigo replied to TangledThorns's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok so in finally watched "The Creator" on D+. I was aware of it slightly lacking in writing, but it turned out the writing was actually insultingly bad and all the pretty pictures couldn't make up for it, and the droning Zimmer soundscape finished it off for me. I feel bad about all the talented concept artists involved in this film. My recommendation is to just get the artbook and have a nice movie playing in your head.- 1623 replies

Yeah, Meng has three little plastic kits, and I think they had some kinda SH Figuarts-ish prototypes for Paul and Feyd Rautha on display.

A bit of progress on the Intruder. Decals are from Caracal Models. @wm cheng this is 1/48 scale - you are the one who makes their 1/72 kits look like 1/48 😄

Another Ripley, they trailer is cool. -
Even if Moore's BSG hadn't had the creative, original writing and great actors, I'd still love it for all the Epic Space Battle scenes and the Galactica's design update. Just hearing the DRADIS sound effect takes me right back. And I was a huge fan of the original series. The "33" episode is peak SF TV. Pretty sure Esmail will ride heavily on the "they are among us" paranoia train, which is kinda his home territory, but it's hard to imagine the show not having some nice space stuff.

Aviators must have reeeeeeally sharp eyes to notice these details while in a dogfight... -
@Rock I find using worm masking much easier since I can concentrate on the coverage and texture without having to hit the demarcation line on each panel. I also start with the darkest color, because when you paint over the light color border later, it will look different from the other areas with the dark primer coat.

I would have loved a movie when it still had a chance to become "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly IN SPACE", but with all the story already told in the series, I don't see how it could be anything other than more of the same. The entropy continues...- 1438 replies

Leave the World behind impressed me with a stellar cast, awesome cinematography, and the uncomfortable depiction of our reaction (or not) to (any) impending doom when the signs are all there. And sequences like the Tesla Lemmings were the cherry on top. Can’t wait to see Esmail’s take on Galactica… The other favorite movies I watched this year (not produced this year) were, in no particular order: Athena – The camera work is just breathtaking, it’s worth to watch the making-of. Also, super-intense acting, it feels like a documetary from an embedded war reporter. Babylon – Epic, multi-layered cinema; with the soundtrack, the movie just took me in for a rush. Robbie is just a pleasure to watch here, forget Barbie. Maestro – A very intimate portrait of Bernstein as an artist and partner; the movie finds it’s own tone and unfolds very differently from the average biopic, you feel that Cooper put everything in the production and his performance. Movies that were better than they should be: No hard Feelings – love it for „I’ll date his brains out“ and Andrew Barth Feldman performing „Man-eater“. Spirited – Insane choreography in the part-musical version of „A Christmas Carol“, Ryan Reynolds shines again, and some nice twists. Also, this year I discovered For All Mankind and declare it the best recent SF serial. It’s on Apple+, of course.- 1623 replies

The usual madness from Hobby Japan magazine: -
@Chas Very nice retro-fit! I understood Bandai's idea of modernizing the simple shapes of the old Super-Robo designs, but the results were not entirely convincing IMO. You prove that you can still get a good figure from these kits.

Just checked IMDB, Brühl doesn't play Röhrl but Audi engineer Roland Gumpert. Röhrl is actually driving the Lancia, and is played by Volker Bruch.
-
What, Brühl gets to play Röhrl after Lauda in "Rush"?! 😄
