More importantly - which two real life female stars are going to have fan look-a-likes in this version.

I've never had anything close to that kind of vibe. I disagree with him on buying a non-subtitled show but that does not come close to making him an arrogant prick...

Same here but I'll be buying the Star Blazers branded ones when (and if) they come out.

Was (s)he talking about that Andromeda from the US TV show? Our Andromeda is more like a Battleship with stabilizers on it that can fly in space. ALSO - NO SUBS on the Japanese Blu-Ray release according to the Yamato Crew that went to Japan just to watch the movie release. No subtitles of any kind.

They made an announcement way back that international distribution was to be done under the highly respected (snicker) Star Blazers label. What that actually means they have not yet said. After not releasing the last two discs of Yamato 2199 under the SB label I sure hope it doesn't mean no English subs on the Yamato 2202 discs in Japan.

But the 12 minute clip looks a lot like a redone version of the original Yamato 2 opening episode. It would also be strange to have no Yamato for the first 17 or so episodes of SBY 2202 (with Kodai still in the older ship design in that episode). We will know in a few weeks - at least if the footage shown is from the first couple episodes.

It certainly looks like Balun with the squashed oval shape rather than being closer to a sphere. (all planets are actually ovals I'm told but...)

I really liked how the Gatlantis Magna-Flame (*) gun was shown to be stolen from the Gamilons' fighter displacement thingy. Same is possibly true for the Submarines (not yet seen). As for the Wave Motion guns, the Gamilons had managed to develop one on their own so I would expect to see more of them popping up. (*) - I freely use the Yamato and Star Blazers names interchangeably, whenever I can't remember or can't spell the Japanese term...

Almost as good will do as well - there has not been a horror show as good as this in a long time.

Taken too soon.

Not hilarious but good, so I present. City Slickers in WestWorld...

Don't feel too bad, in the originals things went downhill pretty darn quickly after the Yamato 2 series.

Yup, being the last Jedi is not much more than being the last person to claim the title, about a quadrillion Billion other force users out there - some with just as much power as a Jedi.

In the original Skynet did not know who (or where) Sarah Conner was. It also might have tried finding out but ran out of time, which is kinda funny - having a time machine and all...

> Terminator 2 starts with that same premise(Skynet is based on the dead Terminator, and thus Skynet is its own grandfather), and then kicks that loop it to the side so they can create a happy ending by stopping Skynet from ever being created. It did not do that, it left the characters not knowing the future.

Or everyone else dies. Or nobody dies. Being last does not have to mean anyone dies. Being Star Wars negates that of course.

I've never heard anyone say they don't like the first movie. Plenty have said they like the second movie more but that is not the same thing. As for continuity - the instant time travel is involved it goes out the window. The first movie setup a time loop that just can't happen without the time loop. Latest Dr. Who season handled it pretty well with the who got the idea first bits.

Yes, Dream Pod 9 (who do Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles) always had top notch art and mecha.

I've got the old boardgames (wth the "unseen" mechs) and everything was done with no *NO* regard for physics. Just get any thought of such things out of your heads. Darn fun game back then however. I gave up on it long ago with each new release feeling the need to up the ante on power/weight/heat, etc...

I also like that the Earth fleet consists of the older designs still - perhaps for the earlier battles that appear to be happening which were not in the original show.
