Hence the term "Somewhat Rare", although plenty of examples existed it was not like today where even the janitors seem to have to sign them.
-
Only if you signed on intellectual property agreement beforehand. At the time of the original Tron that was somewhat rare, and in that case it would go to court - usually if you wrote something (and only tested and kept code at HOME) you had the ability to claim it was seperate from work. If you used any equipment from work, or had the code on a work machine of any kind you would lose. I didn't have to sign my first agreement of that type in 92 or so, even then it was "optional", of course so was the job... Last but not least, some of these agreements cover ANYTHING that you create while working for a company, you make it then they own it. I'd suppose this last type could be challenged in court and voided, but I've not heard of any direct cases - plenty of indirect ones like the Brats dolls though. (Seems like I've gone off on a tangent again)

He had the requisit UK accent for playing a Russian in a US film. Worst case of that was "Stalingrad" where I could swear the kid was going to say "Vatzily Zitzev, Cockney Russian Sniper, Guvner!" (oh yeah - be sure to say that with the "chimney sweeper" accent Dick Van Dyke had in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) Back on track though - it did work and could be usefull for the Alien Prequal (come to think of it, didn't Avatar do the same thing? I know the one lady spoke English but I'm pretty sure the others used it at certain points even though they did not speak it.) -
Before 9-11 you would be surprised how often that kind of thing happened. Actually flying the thing would be a no no, but he didn't take off till Misa mistakenly orderd him to. As for the original post, Busting up a flight demonstation pales to insignificance when the entire Earth is under attack from Aliens... (And Macross was never meant to be totally serious)

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Dynaman replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I've been watch Frontier again, watch two episodes while exercising on the rowing machine - I decided I could only watch while exercising and it works great for getting myself back in shape. I've noticed that I missed a bunch of "Foreshadowing" moments when originally watching the show - not just because I was dense. Frontier takes a lot of the Anime conventions and turns them into plot points, an example is the Vajra starting an attack when Ranka starts singing the first time, or Alto "hearing" Ranka and Sheryl singing while wearing the Sheryl's ear ring. I didn't catch the significance of it the first time through since I was just thinking "more Anime silliness" (Well, not exactly silliness, just can't think of a better term). Also started watching LOGH, thanks to the other thread here pointing it out. After browsing the first episode it looks interesting enough to take the plunge. -

They can do what Hunt for Red Oktober did, in that case the Russians started out speaking subtitled russian and in the middle of a sentence switched to English - sounds kinda silly but it worked VERY well in the film. -
If your talking about "V", that series has not ended yet. I agree that this one looks better. (Action?, in an Action series? Who would have thought of that?)

The racing was one of the better parts of the movie, along with the characters (even the minor villains) looking a LOT like their animated counterparts. The problem with the racing scenes for me was that it literally made me nasueus. If they could have toned it down just a bit (and this goes for almost every action movie these days) then it would have been better. Script wise the movie was garbage though.

Although Cars was OK, it is not one of my Favorite Pixar movies. What they really need to do is a followup to "The Incredibles" Not only one of my favorite Animated films of all time it is also my favorite Superhero movie (except, possible, the first Superman movie with Christopher Reave)

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Doesn't matter, this is a film series where being dead has absolutely no meaning, it's even worse in that regard then a series running on the scifi (syfy) channel...- 87 replies

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The first three certainly were, while the first one did not go TOOOOO far overboard and managed to be entertaining - the second and third were nothing but people yelling and screaming and running around. Maybe this next one will be different, but like the second two I will not find out till I accidently see them on cable and get too lazy to find the remote...- 87 replies

And in Predator 2 the lady was not killed since she was pregnant. (*) I forget, who killed the "Doctor" in this movie (shows how great it was, I forgot already...) (*) I must point out that Predator 2 was one of the worst movies of all time and that I am ashamed to have any knowledge of it, the opening gunfight alone is even worse then the Rambo 3 opening.

If non-scifi type shows are OK to list then "Boardwalk Empire" was fantastic. I don't normally like Mobster shows either. It helps that I live 10 miles from Atlantic City I guess, and visit the lake in Mays Landing where a certain important scene takes place.

Best Movie - Yamato, even though I have not seen it yet... Anime Series - I'm always a couple years behind on new series. The best I saw was Full Metal Alchemist (the original, not brotherhood - have not seen that yet...) Video Game - same thing as for Anime... (Played FEAR 1 and 2 which were very good.) CD - Weird Al has not released any new CD in a few years now. Worst SciFi Movie - Don't remember watching any, but it had to be something on SciFi, and I think there was ANOTHER new SAW movie this year...

Take a realistic look at any other company and you will see the exact same behaviour. Look at any movie (with some really visible exceptions) and it will get hyped beyond belief - even if it is total garbage. A studio is NOT going to tell the truth about it's product - it exists to SELL the product and that does not happen if the studio says "it's not what we really want but it's all we have the budget for..."
-
100% true, but they did all that stupid stuff with much more Panache - and the original was most certainly not taking itself too seriously. Besides, as my ex-governer says, "I ain't got time to bleed"
-
Although Parris Island is certainly a bit much (don't want to kill the actors before the movie starts after all) the idea of a boot camp is not new - a two week camp was used for the "Saving Private Ryan" cast and the "Band of Brothers" cast.
-
Thread Necromancy... Just rented it from Netflix, not bad but certainly not good. My main quible (in a movie that could be ripped apart any number of ways) was that they are on an alien planet - that had a totally different day/night cycle, and there was no obvious difference between that planet and Earth till they got out of the tree cover? An even bigger gripe is that a single Predator wiped out Arnorld's team in the first movie (and Arnold's team was badass, not like this group of goons) but in the sequal 3 tougher/meaner predators don't do any better. But for silly fun the movie it fine.

They also needed to free up the cash to work on the BSG prequal. SyFy is also getting a little less SciFi every passing year.
-
SciFi said that next season will be their last, the site said that there will be 10 episodes.
-
Personally I thought Arnie's face looked kinda dodgy in T-Salvation (but I did like the movie overall). What they should do is re-release "The Last Starfighter" with updated computer animation, that would be worth seeing (OK - Maybe not, since the movie itself stunk)

You are VERY good at your job! I don't think RT can get much less succesful and still be kicking.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Dynaman replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I've never seen part 3, but considering how much more I like Part II, versus the first part I would have to say I have no complaints about the change in art style or directors... Part II is on of my favorite Anime or all time, even the english dub where the commander of the warship was voiced by Robotech's Exedore VA was great. (I should look for that on DVD, have not seen it in 20+ years now)
