What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Dynaman replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
CG is, for the most part, still relegated to "Cutesy" stuff here in the states - or Special Effects. If it falls outside of the talking animal joke shows then most distributers do not know what to do with it. Pixar's "The Incredibles" being the one major exception (their other movies falling into the cute animal realm for the most part - but UP is a hard one to pin down). Robert Zemeckis' stuff is not helping other, when Santa from Polar Express looks like he belongs in "CreepShow" then there is a problem. I'm hoping CG gets a more general breakout from the cute stuff into more serious or action movie fare - but I'm afraid it will end up getting the same treatment that animation got in the USA. -
To paraphrase Sy Steinburg(*) "Wonder Woman, there is a lady with HUGE talents!" (*) - I'm the USA up all night Dynaman...

Saw it yesterday, made a decent mid-season cliffhanger and a lousy series finale. A little esposition (like Caprica got) would have been nice. A wrap-up TV movie would be nice for this show, probably not a chance in hades of it happening, but it would be nice.

It does, it just is not enforced.

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
Dynaman replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yes it has, but it's always nice to see it again. The interesting part is that the voice acting on that thing isn't bad... -
Starblazers on SyFy. Coming April 21, 2011.

You got cheated somehow, Episodes 5 and 6 were on last thursday, the Jupiter and Saturn episodes. Next week is the Pluto episodes (can't remember if there are one or two of them). -
That would be the fault of whoever did the restore of the film, nothing to do with the age of the film in particular. Best example I can think of is the latest version of Metropolis - earlier restoration jobs were very bad in comparison, now the film on DVD is very crisp. If anyone is going to put the proper resources into the restore of a movie it will be George with Star Wars. (although he may decide to change even more along the way...) Personally I have no plans of picking these up though, I already own SW on DVD and things just don't look that much better between DVD/BD from the 10 feet away that I watch TV from.

FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)
Dynaman replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Pretty funny how times change, I remember just before Arnold's Conan movie came out - people were complaining that Arnie didn't look like Conan. -
Now you got me thinking "Protoculture fields" to the tune of "Strawberry fields", thanks a lot...

Yes. I have them taped for watching sometime this weekend. -
I'm pretty sure it was not meant to be that way, the series writers probably got word the show was getting axed after at least 75% of this season's episodes were already shot, much less written. Most likely all the had time for was to write a finale into the "last" episode. (Anyone know if they even had that much time, or was the show cancelled after things had already been written and shot?)

Maybe they should buy a new USB stick and post pictures of it on the blog? (assuming it is in the budget)

If you are going that route, check out Pop Chaser. No tentacles but I love that one. -
It's available free on the net... Even better, Rifftrax did a number on it (including the commercials) [OOPS] - forgot to mention it is bad quality, but it's the Christmas Special...

Been watching Star Blazers on SciFi (SyFy...), I'm amazed at how well it holds up. The broadcast quality is decent and the animation itself is better then I remember. (I love the show itself, but I suspected the animation would look more dated then it actually does) -

No - you can not use sound effects without permission. But as with all things in the law it is a complicated issue. Licensing sound effects (or cross licensing) seems to be fairly easy though - many movie gunshots from the sixties (from different studies) all sounded pretty much the same for example.

You forgot the "Hurry, Starforce, Hurry!" line. I used to run my arse home from school to watch this show. -
If the face palm is supposed to be a negative comment on my post - sorry but no matter how far-fetched the science in a movie may be it does not excuse the characters acting stupid. (If not, then please ignore) [edit] - same goes for Lex.

I liked the last episode, but it had a problem, which the plot later removed but - the Destiny could have gone to their home planet and they could have then used the gate to get the people there (the one on destiny, using the shuttle to shuttle them down to the planet, no need to use up all the supplies hauling the people around for a week). They also did not explain why the gate was not working, volcanic winter should not have caused the problem. (Perhaps that is for next week)

That is the "hook" for the movie. There is the general rule in sci-fi that you can have ONE unreal thing and expand upon it. In TRON that one thing is being able to get digitized and go into the "computer"(*) world. The interactions outside of the "computer" world should be somewhat believable though. (*) - Quoated since the "computer" world is a stylized implementation at best. Then the character should have made the program open source, he owned the company after all. The plot could still have followed along with his getting sucked into TRON land while trying to find the source code. (requires rewriting some of the plot, but that really would not be a bad thing)

Sad news, I will miss her. Even the Sarah Jane adventures was generally good for a kids show.
-
The actor did OK, it's just the role that was stupid. The "I own the company but all I do when I'm upset with them is play a (highly dangerous) practical joke on them once a year" bit was beyond belief.
