    I lived through that kind of thing with Star Trek TNG, I guess I can live through it with S:U. I thought the Episode was better then the cliffhanger from last season (all our heroes acted like total idiots end of last season...) I'll continue watching, but I'm looking forward to Caprica and Sanctuary more.

    Certainly true that character driven shows are dominant now. But not all is lost, even BSG (totally character driven) was nearly treating the Galactica like a character - especially at the end. There is also the B5 example, with the White Star one and the Agememnon. As for someone else's idea of bringing back the Musashi, a new version of the Andromeda would be tops on my list... (Or did they already do that?) Finally - re-used plots, that has been the main problem with Yamato since the second movie, it is always the same plot.

    To be fair, compared to what was done to Voltron in TV form, those novels and comics were Voltaire... (OK - maybe more like early Tom Clancy instead of Voltaire)

    The movies didn't look bad, most certainly not great though. The Star Blazers TV show though, terrible. I wouldn't worry about a Star Blazers version of the live action movie - I think they have given up on anything new for Star Blazers (didn't the Star Blazers website translate the Bolar Wars comic and use the Japanese names for everything? They might have used the Star Blazers names and I skipped over it)

    Which only proves that it was terribly marketed and had the worst product tie-ins of any of the shows listed. It says nothing for the quality of the show in particular. Most of the people that I've talked with (including here) like Robotech - the series - but disliked HG's antics. Sounds like two groups of people arguing past one another to me...

    Heard that last night and was thinking, "They got Aerosmith to do the title song?" - looks like they did. Movie just keeps looking better and better.

    Didn't they show the effects of the attack on TV? One second a city, next second a ruin? If so, then you saw the sequence. The original script was supposed to be the hybrid rattling off the destroyed places - and the camera staying on the hybrid the whole time. If they did not show that sequence at all, then that stinks! (can't use more appropriate words on a public board...)

    Did you see the special features? The bombardment scene was not supposed to be there originally - just the hybrid saying "This is burning, that is burning..." THAT would have made the show a worse bomb then it already was. Same purpose as the topless chicks in the Caprica DVD - just a little something extra they can't show on TV to try and get people to buy the DVD...

    I'd buy that for a dollar! Come to think of it, find some way to get robocop in the movie, or at least the ED-209 (It could be a destroid prototype)

    Just saw box sets 1-3 on amazon, they are used, but they are there.

    Have to disagree, first time I saw it I convinced it was a fan made ship, the thing has the most ungainly lines I've ever seen.

    I was refering to watching it on Hulu or Youtube (wherever it may be available as a stream). Unless something has changed you can't tell it to play the subbed version rather then the dubbed one. Personally, I have the Animeigo version and it was not that hard (easy actually) to purchase through amazon. Not sure if there are copies available now though.

    The largest problem with that dub though, is that if I had to choose between it and "The Macross Saga" part of Robotech, I'd choose Robotech. The VA work in that is an atrocity. The subtitled version of SDFM is well worth the money.

    Nobody thought a small one man fighter was a threat - or else they would have a tighter defense. Real tanks have been built with big honking exhaust ports on the side (WW2 French) and lots of other design flaws no need to worry about that one on the Death Star, if Luke had not been there (last Jedi, yada yada) then no one would have hit the thing. I'd like to know who placed the tractor beam controls though.

    In Galactica the proportions are off compared to a current US navy aircraft carrier, but not by much. (halways being the biggest offender). as for the reason. A fighter will be made just large enough to house everything, and not one bit larger. Maintenance will not be done outside of a mother ship/carrier. The capital ship on the other hand will need to have maintenance done while under way, and room will be allocated to allow the maintenance on the ship itself and seperate maintenance bays for the small craft that it carries. All the spare parts needed will be kept in the carrier as well, including all the spares for the small craft. So every bit of space saved on the small craft has to be added to the carrier/base ship. Once again though - Hollywood still likes to overdo it...

    Well, it DID make a sizable dent in the second Death Star... No spoiler - if someone has not seen it by now, well, they aren't going to...

    teenagers from Outer Space has that one beat, it's monster was the Shadow of a Lobster... Or "Beginning of the End", it's monsters were grasshoppers, they used real grasshoppers crawling over pictures of buildings for their special effects. I recommend both of these in their MST3K versions, especially the "Teenagers from Outer Space" one, it has two of my favorite riffs "Stay!", and "Dog Gone".
