  1. O_O So Bandai has access to the Macross Zero designs now? Did Yamato and Bandai have a love-fest or something? On the other hand it looks like this is targeted directly against Yamato's 1/200 Variable Fighter Collection (even the names are similar ) Either way, I'll pass-- these are just too small for me.

    Yamato Toy TV

What, the fingernails? You must be one sick, twisted guy (Kidding, kidding-- I know you meant the presenter. She's not very pretty though, at least to me. Average looking at best.)
  3. Ermm..my post was addressed to Warrhead, and while he might have been here for a long while, he may have missed out on this interesting historical facet, given that he thought that the schemes were something that Yamato pulled out of thin air rather than something that was drawn from previous Macross works (which could be based on real-life aircraft). I also brought it up in a positive tone, and didn't turn all whiny when someone disagreed with me. Besides, Graham was the one who called you out on the whole 'paint schemes come from Hasegawa' issue and David was the one who again pointed out the resemblances to the F-15 schemes-- and yet you picked on me to give a snarky response? Is this going to be another thread where you bash me mindlessly for pointing out something that Graham said (because, ironically, you missed out on that thread), and then turn around and apologise to Graham when he has to come defend his own words? Regardless, I don't want to derail this thread anymore. The colour schemes for these YF-19s were probably based on the Hasegawa/TIAS schemes, which could have drawn inspiration from the YF-15 and F-15 S/MTD. Let's leave it at that, ok? VT1010 The Yamato Fan racer has never been made before by another company though, so I don't think there would be licensing issues there. On the other hand, most of the VFs that have been made into toys have also been made as model kits before.
  4. I wish the model kit (and the toys) would be more like the VF-1 v2--- you can attach the gunpod offset to the outside of the arms which would solve the problem.
  5. Vacuum works as a pretty good sound-proofer A few baffles between the engines and the rest of the legs would cut down the noise by alot (assuming the engines even make noise in the first place)
  6. In fact the VF-25's transformation seems more sturdy to me than the VF-1 or YF-19, for example. But less sturdy than the VF-11, VF-17 or YF-21.
  7. I actually think that Valks would have pretty low wing loadings, given that they have low weights, like you said, and also because almost all of them incorporate a lifting body design ala F-14. Also, thanks for answering a question of mine! I wondered why the 777 i flew on used its inner wing flaperons for roll control rather than the ailerons when the ailerons would seem to be the more efficient choice. I wonder why they even have ailerons on the wings then... surely deleting the ailerons would yield more space for fuel etc.
  8. Because in real life the Mac0 destroids were designed more closely with the MacF destroids (2000s) than with the SDFM destroids (1980s). The VF-0 also shows other design anachronisms like the nose-side mounted sensor windows like the YF-19; and is about the same size as the later designed YF-19 than with the VF-1. I would just accept it and move on...not everything has to make sense in-universe
  9. Well, there might be an initial flash, but explosions in space (indeed, most military explosions even within atmosphere) would have a much lower visual signature, not to mention that there wouldn't be a loud boom
  10. For some reason the VF-2SS just doesn't look like a plausible aircraft to me-- and doesn't fit together with canon VFs for that reason. It works ok as a standalone mecha though
  11. Well, an actual VF-0 couldn't be built in the first place given our current technology, but I'd think that if we had the technology to build one, we would also be able to program the control software so that transformation wouldn't cause it to stall and crash into the ground immediately
  12. Well for this part, I think the inference made was that the larval form of the Varja didn't have the armour/protection of the fully adult Varja and hence was still vulnerable to small arms fire.
  13. Then why did you deny it? Face it, you were caught trying to act smarter than you actually are. Besides, the question from Warrhead (and others in this and another thread) show that not everybody knows the probable origin of these colour schemes-- which might lead them to appreciate them less. Personally, the possible historical homage to actual real life aircraft brings an extra dimension to my enjoyment of the toy and I'm just trying to spread the joy
  14. The CFM-56 is used on the 737 family, A320 family and A340 family though, so it is not difficult for China to get ahold of the engines. Air China, which is the national airlines of the PRC, operates the A320, A340 and the 737 . So they definitely have the engines, and it is not too difficult to get ahold of a few to reverse engineer. Not to mention that they would already have technicians trained in the maintenance of said engines.
  15. Good explanation Small nitpick though, the thrust vectoring nozzles are 2D or even just 1D-- they can go up/down (always, except maybe VF-17), left/right (sometimes--the VF-1, VF-11, YF-19 etc probably can't do it) but not forward/back. Hence 2D thrust vectoring. Roll control is achieved by differential use of the up/down vectoring with each nozzle, and yaw control by differential thrust (for 1D nozzles i.e. YF-19)
  16. I don't think anyone is dismissing any point of view here-- like I said, you can find such products even with more more popular anime like Naruto and Bleach, and we all know you can find doujinshi about just any anime under the sun; even the kiddie ones that border on child porn. The point being, as long as there's a niche to be filled, and money to be made filling it, someone will do it. It doesn't always mean that the show producers are specifically targeting otakus at the expense of the wider audience.
  17. Yep it should.. how else would Guld apply the downforce? This is so gonna wreck my budget.. I MUST recreate this scene in my display cabinet!
  18. Actually, I was hoping that Bandai would spam us with all the different re-colours, just like they do with Gundam kits-- it would show the level of commitment that Bandai has to Macross Frontier--- as it is, with 1-2 kits a month (and some months without a kit release at all) I don't think we will get to see many kits beyond the VF-25--- maybe the VF-27, but thats it.
  19. I thought I just read last week that they were delayed due to a lack of parts from overseas? Anyway, this is great news!
  20. Fantastic idea! Unfortunately I can't help out much with the translations or the scannings, but I'm always open to help seed/distribute the finished product
  21. Thats better than Tenjin Hidetaka! More abstract to be sure, but I like it
  22. Thanks for the clarification. It would be cool if it were possible though . At the very least, we know that the 0D can mount the above wing rocket pods right?
  23. Seems a little small to be fuel tanks, given that the armour pack has 15 tons of chemical propellants... unless it's a super-dimensional fuel tank? I always thought that the reaction missiles were actually attached to those tubes, but since the model kit pics came out I realised that I was wrong... I'd guess that they are thrusters extended further out from the body (longer moment arm) but then the reaction missiles would affect their operation as well.. maybe they are just a stylistic element?
