Glad to see the O-rings are back. My son loves GI Joes and it was hard to find reasonably priced o-ring figures for him.

I remember whe they were only $1.99. My dad was cool and even though my mom didn’t want us to have anymore toys, he would take us out on one of his errands and we’d stop by a Toys’r Us and get one for me and my brother. I didn’t have many of the vehicles, but the figures were cheap enough to build an army

Yea I remember! I would get $1 a week allowance for chores and after 2 weeks go to Service Merchandise (anyone remember them?) and get a new figure.

Those were the good old days. Kids had an incentive to do work and the money went a long way . Nowadays you’d have to give the kids ten or twenty bucks a week just to get something every couple weeks. I remember getting G.I. Joes or maybe a comic book here and there. Lots of fun.

When the Marvel GI Joe comics were released in the UK they were weaved into the pre-existing Action Force comic with the Red Shadow's leader essentially betraying and killing off the original organization then posing as Cobra Commander to start a new faction.

 

EDIT: One of the later reboot/continuation GI Joe comics from either Devil's Due or IDW inserted them into their storyline as well.
