Dynaman Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Normally I would more or less ignore any attempting to make a live action Star Blazers, but if the group that financed True Grit is involved then maybe it has a chance... http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/true-grit-co-financier-skydance-targets-star-blazers-for-christopher-mcquarrie/
reddsun1 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yeah? Well, his first project was: Flyboys. Leave it alone, I say.
Einherjar Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Sounds kind of awkward. How will this work with the new Yamato movie that just came out?
Keith Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Epic fail, give me Yamato on bluray with subs instead.
taksraven Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Epic fail, give me Yamato on bluray with subs instead. Seconded.
Dynaman Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Yeah? Well, his first project was: Flyboys. I would agree, but then there is always the story of the director of Piranha and his next film... Not to mention the fact that I thought flyboys was a decent film, and True Grit looks to be one of the rare remakes that is as good as the original.
Robelwell202 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Ridiculous!!! THis has 'EPIC PHAIL' written all over it!
Knight26 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Epic fail, give me Yamato on bluray with subs instead. Thirded, motion passes, give us the Yamato move people.
azrael Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Epic fail, give me Yamato on bluray with subs instead. It's still in theaters, unfortunately. Would love to see how Hollywood royally screws this one up... makes this happen.
Dynaman Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 It's still in theaters, unfortunately. Nothing wrong with that, the more it makes the better the chance of a sequal...
UN Spacy Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Epic fail, give me Yamato on bluray with subs instead. THIS. SOFA KING THIS.
ae_productions Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I thought Christopher McQuarrie was penning the Yamato script? The guy is a good writer. The Usual Suspects. Valkyrie. Way of the Gun. The 2012 Darren Aronofsky Wolverine film... I'll give it a chance.

Depends on whether they decide to do away with the original idea of having based the ship around the USS Arizona or not, as it was originally pitched over a decade ago(yes, it has been that long).

No, that was longer than a decade ago. It was back when Geena Davis was going to be the bad guy in the live action Sailor Moon movie.
UN Spacy Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 IIRC that was around mid 1997 when I first read about that.
Einherjar Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 This was exactly what I was thinking when I first heard of this: An American Live-Action Star Blazers? Why not just release the Japanese one here?
UN Spacy Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 "a big budget live action Hollywood version is definitely the way to go"
Einherjar Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 "a big budget live action Hollywood version is definitely the way to go" Guess someone has money to burn. Bring on the trainwreck!
terry the lone wolf Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I and saw Steven Tyler on the Howard Stern show saying he did the theme song to Yamato in Japan & he couldn't say the name right. If he had to say...I don't know...Starblazers...Would he be tripping on his words?..I don't know.. Y'know Hollywood, they don't create; they recycle....
Vifam7 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I really don't mind if Hollywood does Starblazers. If they can redo Battlestar Galactica, they can redo Starblazers. It's not as if Starblazers is sacred - it was already an Americanized edit job. Besides, chances are, the movie is going to end up being so vastly different from the Starblazers cartoon series or for that matter Uchuu Senkan Yamato, it'll likely be considered a whole different thing (like the Transformers movies). I'll give it a chance so long as Michael Bay doesn't come near this movie.
Snail00 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 this may not be so bad but knowing hollywood they will turn the original story upside down and re-"americanize it" You can tell by the drawings that the iconic ship has already been re - worked sans the Wave motion gun which was a major piece of the story that moved the entire plot along! Say I say NO
Dynaman Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) You can tell by the drawings that the iconic ship has already been re - worked sans the Wave motion gun which was a major piece of the story that moved the entire plot along! [edit] - looked again, although there are pictures I think they are just something they stuffed in the article, some editor thought they were both Star Blazers... What drawings? The article I posted had no drawings, it's total pie in the sky at the moment to begin with. Edited March 3, 2011 by Dynaman
