Regular 80's movies you think other people have forgotten

Thanks to Gubaba for the topic idea.

Come on, we all have guilty pleasures from the 1980's. For some, it was Megaforce, for others it may have been the truly politically incorrect like Red Dawn, and for others still it might have been the Brat Pack films like "Pretty in Pink".

Lets confess.

For me it was The Dark Crystal. For a movie that was so heavily criticised I thought that it was fantastic. Watched the film, read the book and enjoyed both.

I will try to think of others.

I loved Red Dawn. "Wolverines!" ^_^

I also enoyed a lot of pretty cheesy crap- Weird Science, Zapped, Revenge Of The Nerds, and yes, I enjoyed all of the brat-pack films: Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, etc.

I had a huge crush on Molly Ringwald when I was in High School.

Your list made me think of a few more-

Fast Times At Ridgemont High

The Last American Virgin

The Sword And The Sorcerer

And of course; Risky Business. I could keep listing films for days...

I have no shame, so I can tell you that Conan the Barbarian replaced the bible for me, or maybe that I like every Van Damme movie from the 80's but you guys know I talk about this crap all the time, so it really doesn't fit into this thread.

No matter how good The Secret of Nimh is, the book is better. Different name though, you need to find "Mrs Frisby and the rats of NIMH".

Total agreement here. Though I liked the fact that there was blood, death, and violence in the cartoon. That it wasn't completely dumbed down like all the Disney stuff.

Ha! Born in '74 bro, so I was ripe for the cheesiness by 1980!

There are some movies being listed here that I just don't see belonging in the "guilty pleasure category".

Exactly. Full Metal Jacket was the coolest of the cool. He would never have to be ashamed of that one. Now, if he had said "Casualties of War" featuring Michael J. Fox, I could understand....

Nah, Brooke Shields was too much of the loli at the time. PARADISE with Phoebe Cates was much better.

'70 here. My junior high/high school film watching had such a high cheese content, I'm surprised I didn't end up with clogged arteries. :)

Weird Science

"..Sex, drugs, rock & roll; chips, dips, chains, whips" lol

... Phoebe Cates was much better.

Taksraven

Oh, HELL YEAH! She was the bomb; I wonder whatever happened to her?

Wait...wait...was that the one with the, erm, "windows" in the back of the jeans...? I never saw it, but I remember seeing an ad for it.

As for me, most of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I'll keep it brief...

Sheena (YOWZA Was that really PG???)

Deathstalker II (never saw Part I)

The awful remake of the Blob with Shawnee Smith and Kevin Dillion

Firday the 13th: The Final Chapter (which is the best in the series because it's the only one with Corey Feldman AND Crispin Glover!)

Godzilla 1985

Young Sherlock Holmes

And special mention MUST go to Nightmare on Elm Street Part II: The Gayest Horror Film Ever.

No kidding... Saying you like the Breakfast Club doesn't count. This has to be something you are ashamed of. I am sure there are some more Macross 7 equivalents from the 80's.

What 'bout Reform School Girls?

"So young, so bad, so what?"

Greatest movie tagline EVER! Well...besides "his nose is not the only thing that grows"...

Okay, I guess I can retract that one. I got carried away in thinking of awesome movies from the 80's. I love Sgt. ??? "You will not like me! I am hard but I am fair!"

Oooh me so horny! Me love you long time! (Ever wonder where 2 Live Crew sampled that from? Watch this movie!)

OK, a terrible movie that I still own on VHS somewhere: Doctor Detroit.

Edit: others that are somewhere in my VHS boxes in the basement are Transylvania 6-5000, Earth Girls are Easy, Streets of Fire (which I actually own on HD DVD, which makes it a double lemon) and The Gate. I think I also own House (the '80s horror movie not the new TV show) and Return to Horror High on VHS but I'm not sure... it's been a long time since looking in those old dusty VHS boxes.
