Mass Effect

Taking Legion to the Flotilla gets a rather large response. And not just a few lines, and not just some throw away dialog. Bioware did it right, and as you'd expect if you were to bring him there.

Fair warning, the more quests you do before going through the relay, the greater the chance you have at having

Normany crew members die in the pods on the Collector base.

I do not recommend doing this on your "main" save.

Are you sure about that?

I did all the loyalty quests and N7 quests and even the random "I found this thing, is it yours?" quests and the only Normandy crewmember who died was the first guy, everyone else in the pods lived.

Maybe it has more to do with how many quests you do from when you get the IFF and when you go through the relay?

From what I've read, the biggest factor is actually what you say not what you do. You can either pick "need to be ready" (or whatever) or "we go now". Note that saying to "go now" doesn't instantly take you there, you can still actually go other places with the galaxy map. You still don't want to do more than 1 or 2 missions, but saying to wait guarantees at least 1 death even if you "change your mind" and head straight there 30 secs later.

I said "we need to wait" because I wanted to make sure I saved, just in case the game spirited me away instantly, and I didn't lose anyone.

It's something from her past.

Idk. it only got .1 better.

there's a flame war over .1? this is why I don't read video game forums.

I found jack to be the most boring character. All her stories are the same, "this is where the kids and I played games and guards were really nice to me!"

Yeah I don't really like Jack, though I like to know everything about all the people on my team. I can't seem to find a conversation path with her post loyalty mission that doesn't lead to her to being open to a romantic relationship, then when you tell her no all I get when I go down there is "F**k off"

They could do away with her in ME3 and I wouldn't mind a bit.

All the pre-release stuff/discussion had Jack as being psycho. She's not. She's just angry. If she was psycho or something, she'd have been much more interesting. She has no mental problem from her experiences other than rage it seems. She doesn't have a split personality, some rigourous habit, a fetish for something odd, or anything.

Well, these are apparently the same people who think IGN's low score for White Knight Chronicles is because the IGN staff are a bunch of Xbox 360 fanboys. Nevermind all the glaring technical flaws the reviewer mentioned, it's bias. <_<

So... yeah, I agree with you. Uncharted 2 was a fun game and deserves the praise it was given, but Mass Effect 2 was just phenomenal. Even the streamlined RPG elements that irked me at the beginning I grew to appreciate (and appreciate more when I started replaying the first one).

Yeah. Unless you count Zaeed. On the flip side, Mordin is probably my new favorite. Not only was he both interesting and hilarious, his tech powers were awesome against probably 75% of the enemies in the game.

At least zaeed doesn't tell you the same story over and over again. He may be a cookie cutter "bitter old man" but at least his stories mix things up.

I'll have a better idea about this in my post hardcore playthrough. I was able to get

Legion prior to Samara or Thane, so I had them to get plus about half the loyalty missions as well. If that's not enough to trigger some deaths then nothing should be. It almost seems like there is a hint of randomness to it, which sucks.

The problem with Jack is that it's hard to take someone who is half naked for fan service seriously. I never felt like everything she said was repetetive but I hardly used her because of the aforementioned. She's also totally crass an while it's obviously two dimensional and done for shock value in this instance it's still somewhat refreshing because not only have I met people in real life like this but it's a bit more "adult" in nature for lack of a better term.

Zaeed is awesome. He reminds me of a cross between Cup from Transformers and the Punisher. I just wish his dialogue was more interactive. He's the kind of guy that I'd like to have a few drinks and shoot the poo with IRL. Even if our values/opinions/etc are pretty divergent.

I like ME2 but I definitely wouldn't give the game a 9.6 or even a 9.1, it's just not that good. That's the reason why besides actual gameplay videos done by end consumers I only respect the opinions of my actual friends that already own the game to help me decide whether to purchase or not.

Finished it last night,Amazing game cant wait for the 3rd but im going to have to go thru it again to keep all my crew alive, I knew i should have spent some time upgrading the ship, I suffered Heavy and heart felt losses. So im off to save them all thru it again. any tips to keep everyone alive during the battle in the collector base?

Having everyone loyal and having the Normandy upgraded are the two big things to keep people alive. If you assign non-loyal squad members to tasks in the base they will die, for every system you don't upgrade on the Normandy, you will also lose someone (this is major systems only, probes, fuel and medbay don't count). Other than that, there are rumors/unconfirmed factors, and there does appear to be some luck of the draw, especially regarding the team 2 leader.

I think they designed her to be a sociopath, which is almost as bad as a psychopath, all she thinks about is herself; wait a minute, that's your renegade persona  !

Good lord, BioWare is the master of the banter dialouge. Some of the banter between the NPCs on the Citidel in Mass Effect 2 is downright hilarious. Especially in the weapon shop; gotta love a Turian who's damn near having a love affair with his shotgun.

I think the ship's fuel upgrade should count too. If you read the dsecription, it's not really a "fuel" upgrade---it's a better thruster system that's more efficient/effective---and it specifically says it leads to better manueverability due to faster reaction times----thus, Joker could certainly make use of it.

I'm not saying that it doesn't have any affect, but I'm not saying that it's a guarantee, either. I had absolutely ever upgrade possible for the Normandy, every party member was loyal to me, I recruited Samara and Thane plus did both their loyalty missions and Legion's

after the Collector attack on the Normandy

, and I lost at least the cook, the female engineer, the yeoman and the generic dude sitting with the generic girl in the crewman's quarters.

As for keeping all the party alive in the final missions, it seems like who you pick for the various assignments is the biggest factor. The combination that worked for me is

Legion for hacking, Garrus escorts the Normandy crew, Samara for the biotic shield, and Jacob leads all the alt teams. For my party, it was Shepard, Mordin and Garrus shutting off the valves, Shepard, Modin and Grunt in the biotic shield, then Shepard, Mordin, and Thane vs. the final boss.

There has to be some kind of random factor then, because I did the same things you did on my first play through and lost none of the crew (though I did select some different people). Mordin wound up randomly dead however in the final cutscene.

here's a link to another fourm where it's discussed.

Final level strategy

That breakdown isn't quite right .

I had full normandy upgrade, full loyalty only did 1 mission (legion loyalty) from when I got IFF to running final mission

used Tali is hacker, she got shot in the face

used Samara as 2nd team leader, everyone lived

AT ALL, or very little? My Jack and Mordin were used for maybe 10 mins outside of their loyalty missions, and they lived. Basically just enough to allocate their skill points. (and weren't chose to do anything in the final battle)

Same here. My personal theory is it all depends on if you got him to sing or not.

He sang for me, was a constant on my team during the final mission, and he lived for me.

My Jack and Mordin were used for maybe 10 mins outside of their loyalty missions

Jack I understand, but Mordin? He's like the best character in the game against everything except a few enemies that put up shields. Especially when you max his cold and fire attacks and they become area-of-effect attacks.

he sang for me as well, told me he wasn't interested in mating with humans, used him for zaeed and Jack's loyalty missions and nothing else, didn't use him at all during the final mission, had his uber omni tool upgrade and he lived.
