  1. Imaginaerum Caramel Films/Solar Films/Scene Nation, 2012 Directed by Stobe Harju Written by Stobe Harju and Tuomas Holopainen Based on the album Imaginaerum by Nightwish Running Time: 85 minutes Not Rated (suggested R). Contains graphic violence and strong language. Cast Quinn Lord (Student in The Possession) as Thomas Whitman, age 10 Francis-Xavier McCarthy as Thomas Whitman, age 75 Marianne Farley as Gem Whitman, age 35 Joanna Noyes as Ann, age 73 Elias Toufexis as Mr. White (voice) Keyanna Fielding as Gem Whitman, age 7 Victoria Ann Jung as Ann, age 8 Ilkka Villi as Theodore Whitman and Mr. White Roy Lea as Dr. JanssonStephane Demere as the Twisted Toy Soldier Hélène Robitaille as Arabesque "Miracles come in small packages. It takes so little to turn a child into the most fortunate being in the world." Nightwish Tuomas Holopainen (keyboardist) as Thomas Whitman, ages 34 and 47 Anette Olzon (lead vocalist, 2005-2012) as Ann, age 32 Marco Hietala (bassist) as Marcus Emppu Vuorinen (guitarist) as Emil Jukka Nevalainen (drummer) as Jack Troy Donockley (uilleann piper) as the Magician Synopsis Thomas Whitman is a 75-year-old man who has lapsed into a coma as a result of dementia. As he is clinging to his life while his estranged daughter Gem plans to pull the plug on him, his mind is in a fantasy world where he relives his childhood past and tries to come to terms with his past while facing his inner demon in the form of a snowman called "Mr. White". Lowdown It's not very often that a music artist ventures to make a movie out of their own works; and those that do have varying levels of success. The Beatles' Yellow Submarine was a critical success while the KISS TV film KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park is widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. And then we have the symphonic metal band Nightwish, Finland's most successful music act today. As majority of their albums are "concept albums" with songs sharing a common theme, it would be hard not to imagine a few movies or stage plays made out of them. For their 2011 album Imaginaerum, that's exactly what they set their sights on. The songs from the album are vividly created on the big screen, from the bluesy to the climactic "Last Ride of the Day" roller coaster ride scene. The story borrows plenty of elements from Tim Burton films and other movies about dreams and imagination, and it plays very well - making a lot more sense than Sucker Punch.Produced at a modest budget of US$3.7 million, the Imaginaerum film has the acting quality of a typical made-for-TV special, but the special effects and cinematography are surprisingly amazing. Much like Iron Sky (another movie from Finland), a lot of the CG effects in this film look like they were done on a larger budget than you think. Many of the costumes and props look cheap and cheesy, but they're supposed to be, as a dream world has infinite degrees of surrealism. The soundtrack consists of a breathtaking orchestral score by Petri Alanko, based on the album's songs. As for the band themselves, their performances in the film are minimal, as keyboardist/leader Tuomas Holopainen acts out several non-speaking roles of Thomas Whitman in his 30s and 40s while the other members are simply band members in the background. Overall, Imaginaerum is a fun ride, whether or not you're into Nightwish and their music. The acting may not be the best, but the visual effects are worth the rental. 2. I for one am excited to see the Big G make a return to the screen. I have hope this will erase the travesty committed in the 1998 movie. I've always had a spot in my heart for Gojira, it was the coolest part of Sunday's growing up, watching Monster Island flicks with a follow up of Kung-fu. Both I'd say probably had the worst dubbing in the history of television. Here's a link with a video of Gareth Edwards talking briefly about the movie: http://www.vibe.com/article/first-video-and-images-revealed-new-godzilla-movie
  3. " In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8FD5bviZ_Y Elysium @IMDb Welcome to Elysium
  4. Anyone remember the spiritual successor to Wings of Honneamise that was shelved? Well, no any longer! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-03-20/gainax-makes-blue-uru-film-with-honneamise-yamaga-sadamoto
  5. I few years ago I watched a lot of Akira Kurosawa movies. Recently i've realised that beyond some anime and samurai movies, I have not seen too many other Japanese movies. I saw this list here: http://japanverse.com/2013/03/which-japanese-films-are-a-must-see/ Does anyone have anything else to add, or their own opinions on this list? Most of these movies sound intriguing in their own way.
  6. Well, with the release date for this film less than two years away, I have to assume that they must be pretty advanced in the planning stages at least. Love Nolans work, hope it's fun. Here is the news. The plot is, as it says, will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding.

  9. Syfy Channel originals, they are low budget classics that are primarily creature features that have been going on since 2002 with over 200 some film titles having the honor of being classified as such. With that said I figured we need a thread and I'll start by posting every original I've seen to date: What are your thoughts on this classic legacy?
  10. Hey guys, I think this might be the first topic I've ever actually started on macrossworld. I've actually been contemplating to do a thread on Kaiju for a while especially since there really hasn't been one that I recall. I just couldn't decide on a way to kick it off. What changed? Well with Pacific Rim coming in a couple of months, and next year the american Godzilla reboot now is as good a time as any. That and thanks to Media Blasters, and Miramax releasing Godzilla Vs. Megalon and Godzilla Vs. Biolante respectively I now own all the Godzilla films on dvd.* Of the two I have to say I enjoyed Megalon more. Yeah its cheesy, but its entertaining as hell and Media blasters did one hell of a job on remastering it. Biolante while it has amazing special effects(the G suit is the best of the heisei era) the story isn't that great and I'm still trying to figure out why people over at tohokingdom.com think its one of the great G films of all time. Its still not as bad as the garbage that is Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah. What's the worst one to you guys? Aside from the 1998 american film? Speaking of the 98 film, its actually enjoyable as giant monster film, as long as you don't think of the monster as Godzilla himself which is what the Japanese have done with several of the millenium era films. Anybody else here like Giant Monster figures, toys, and etc? Feel free to discuss them. I've been buying the U.S. Bandai vinyls off and on since I think 2000, but lately it seems they've gone to crap. The latest run is a bunch of reissues with the exception of I think Showa Mechagodzilla. The paints are all wrong(spacegodzilla is black instead of blue) and each figure comes in both a normal version, and a lame gimicky version that feels softer and has sparkles. The only one I picked up was the GMK Godzilla since I missed it the first time around. *(All the films have been released in the United States on dvd with the exception of 1984's Return of Godzilla. I broke down and imported the original Japanese version because it was subbed, and is very different than the american Godzilla 1985 cut.)
  11. This seems promising http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=99333
  12. Long before the release of The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced May 2, 2014 as the release date for the as-yet-untitled sequel. Marc Webb will return to the director's chair and Andrew Garfield has been confirmed to once again wear the mask and web shooters. Emma Stone will also be returning as Gwen Stacy. Other than that, here are some of the rumors and news bits surrounding the sequel: Production James Vanderbilt, who wrote this year's reboot, was contracted to write the sequel. However, Sony has also contracted Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Lost) to rewrite Vanderbilt's draft. Filming has supposedly begun this month in London. Casting J. K. Simmons has expressed interest in reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi trilogy. Like there's anyone else who can play that role perfectly. Shailene Woodley (Amy in The Secret Life of an American Teenager, Alexandra in The Descendants) will play Mary Jane Watson, but in a very small role before getting more screen time on the third film. At least it's not Kirsten Dunst anymore. Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained) has been confirmed to play the villain Max Dillon/Electro. Dane DeHaan (Jesse in In Treatment, Andrew in Chronicle) was confirmed by Webb to play Harry Osborn. No word on Norman Osborn and whether or not Willem Dafoe will reprise his role from the Sam Raimi trilogy. According to Webb, Martin Sheen will reprise his role as Ben Parker - most likely in flashback scenes. Denis Leary had joked in one of the Blu-ray documentaries about making a petition to return in the sequel as Capt. George Stacy. More news to come in the next few months. 13. The Armour of God saga continues with Chinese Zodiac. Chinese Zodiac premieres in Hong Kong on December 12. Official Site
  14. 21 Jump Street is based on the 1987 TV series that helped jumpstart the FOX Network. The film stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, with special appearances from original TV cast members Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson Peete, and Peter DeLuise. The film premiered on March 16 and has earned US$201 million at the box-office. It's also gotten good reviews, with an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to the success of this film, a sequel is in the works. Official Site
  15. Set for release on June 6, 2014 is Edge of Tomorrow, the Hollywood adaptation of the sci-fi novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Directed by Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper) the film stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. The screenplay was originally written by Dante Harper, but it underwent numerous revisions under Joby Harold (Awake), Steve Kloves (the Harry Potter series, The Amazing Spider-Man), Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, The Wolverine), Tim Kring (Crossing Jordan, Heroes), Jez Butterworth (Fair Game), Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek). This is already not a good sign. And here's the first set of teaser posters: Edge of Tomorrow @ IMDb
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNvAYGwQBro Someone on the AS Group on FB posted the trailer. LOL this looks good. All the flight deck personal have cranials and look like Hyster 6k Forklifts (and i about died laughing when i saw the prop plane getting hooked to the launch craddle with a ALBAR instead of a tentioner). C9CG16 GPCX of course unless you were in the Navy (as Airdales at least) all that means gibberious, LOL... thoughts on this movie, people?
  17. Another classic Grimm tale gets the modern Hollywood treatment. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) and stars Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye in The Avengers, Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy) and Gemma Arterton (Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace, Princess Tamina in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) as the brother-sister duo who become witch-hunting bounty hunters after a traumatic experience in a gingerbread house fifteen years prior. The film also stars Famke Janssen (Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye, Jean Grey in X-Men 1-3) as the evil sorceress Muriel and Peter Stormare (Wolfgang in the Volkswagen GTI commercials, Meltdown in Transformers: Animated) as Sheriff Berringer. Other witches include stuntwomen Monique Ganderton (Alia in Smallville) and Zoë Bell (herself in Death Proof). So yeah, if you liked Van Helsing, then this is right up your alley. It hits theaters in 3D and IMAX on January 25, 2013. Official Site
  18. Hugh Jackman tweeted like this on August 28th. https://twitter.com/...8671873/photo/1 And many Japaneses tweeted he was eating curry rice in the hut on Mt.Fuji then. He was in Shiba Zoujouji Temple on August 29th. Saying for the cars for shooting the X-men Movie. And He was in Akihabara and shooting something with many staffs yesterday. http://togetter.com/li/364072 Apparently this one.
  19. We got a trailer now for Arnold's new movie. Check it out: http://www.slashfilm.com/the-last-stand-trailer-arnold-schwarzenegger-gets-a-second-chance/ I've seen Kim Ji-Woon's "I Saw The Devil" which was brilliant and a great last hurrah for the Korean revenge thriller genre that has made such an impression this past decade. If he brings even half of what he did in that film to a Schwarzenegger movie, this could be a lot of fun.
  20. Last announcement of the night. Those at SDCC 2012 were treated to test footage of the concept they wanted to do. Hopefully someone or Marvel will post the concept footage.
