See, I'd be all for that kind of thing happening in the series, just so something interesting happened for her character. Plot-wise though, I've wanted her to start singing from the start.

Honestly, for the cost? Might be easier picking up a vintage broken shoulder Focker 1S, a Max 1A, then perform a little part swapping surgery. Might actually wind up cheaper if you can get a good deal on the Focker. Still need to replace the arrows on the head with blue ones, but that's a pretty minor detail. If I can find a good deal on another Max 1A, I might do that myself.

Oh, I was actually referring to the windows across the entire ship, more of a, "I guess people just don't like looking outside" angle.- 466 replies

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)

The original Enterprise was sized roughly the same as the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier in length, about 400 crew (which I think was only 250 in the pilots episodes?), and I think had between 10-12 decks or so.. this one has that many decks in the saucer alone. And yet, it somehow has the same rough number of windows....- 466 replies

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)

All of the new variations are still insanely huge, and still cling to the old prime universe refit design cues, even if they mean absolutely nothing in this scale. It is funny though, for all the times I've heard people ask why the original refit Connie's pylons tapered the way they did, I never really considered how terrible it would actually look if they were tapered the other way. I dunno. I seriously think both Star Trek and Wars need to get to work hiring some people with some clue as to how to develop ships that actually have appealing designs, because both universes seem to be struggling with that these days.- 466 replies

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So, just out of curiosity, I checked the scale on the old figure-scaled A-wing.. the pilot in that looks about the same scale as the filming model, just based on how big the pilot's head is compared to the canopy... According to that, assuming a 6 foot pilot, the A-wing is only 20 feet long. That would make an actual 1/72 scale kit only 3 and 1/3 inches long. I can see why they bumped up the size on it. Which.. going by the 20 foot length estimate... actually makes the "1/72" A-wing kit about 1/45th. -

I'm kinda perfectly okay with that, if it means we get some decent updated releases of stuff like the large X-wing mold. I'm waiting for them to rework the wings to not sag horribly. Though it's not like I have room for more X-wings anyway.. Until someone else comes up with something better though, I'm probably going to remember that new tie as the "Tie Flappy Bird." -

I'm not sure if current gen fighters can even begin to approach exactly how stealthy and low-drag/fast the YF-23 was. The F-35 certainly can't, in any case. -
Eh, while snap-in windows for the frames would be great, I think the 1/72 kits are unfortunately a little too small to pull that off well. The plastic thickness would probably be an issue. They did it nicely with the 1/48 X-wing, but sadly that seems like a one-off.. and I was so incredibly hopeful they'd release one without all the mechanical gizmos and lighting. I have to admit though, I really do appreciate the frame-only windows (dust problems notwithstanding ). I know it's mostly to replicate the filming models, but I love the look for some reason. You'll probably be happy to hear that they did give the A-wing kit a clear canopy with a snap on frame though. I think the A-wing might be the only ship they gave actual windows to in the movies, since you can't do a bubble canopy so well with just a frame.

Is that picture printed on some sort of bent cardboard or something? Because, seriously, it looks like the wings are angled upwards. The whole thing looks like it's curled up in the middle, as if someone sat on it.

Mmmm boxes of HLJ modeley goodness. No pics handy, but just got my second 1/48 Super/Strike VF-1A/S kit, along with two of the weapons sets. Most amusing part? After a bit of parts clipping and tree trimming, all the pieces from both the Valk and both weapons sets fit into 4 sandwich bags, and got put in one of the standard 1/48th VF-1 kit boxes. That Strike Valk box is beautiful, but man is it huge. If you start running out of room, you can do the same with the VF-25 kits. You can fit the base VF-25 kit in a 1 quart ziplock bag, the armor or super parts will fit in another. My armored Ozma kit box has like 8 VF-25s in it now. -
I've got no problem double (or even triple) dipping on this design, I plan on getting all of them if I can. Having the Bandai kit is just a nice backup for the worst case scenario of Bandai producing nowhere near enough of the DXs.
-
Between the ship being covered with greeblies to high heaven, and Bandai doing an awesome job hiding most of the significant seams between parts, I love how you can pretty much paint the Y-Wing entirely before ever putting it together.
-
Yikes, November? I don't know which is more surprising, the fact that they're not doing the 31 first, or the fact that the Hasegawa kits are going to beat any of the DX releases by a month. Either way, sign me up! I do hope it comes with optional wing panels to do the CF versions though, I don't think there are any other significant external differences.

I want to guess yes? But the Millia is a customized Votoms figure, if I remember correctly.

I've kinda just been reading the spoilers to see if anything interesting happens each week. -
Already out, it's been in my HLJ warehouse for about a week now, but I'm holding off shipping it until I can ship it together with the Tomy-Tech kits I have ordered.
-
Wow.. yeah, those are some massive gorilla hands there. Otherwise, I can't wait to build a few of them. The 31 really didn't do it for me, but I can see myself grabbing a bunch of the 262s.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

Quick update, interceptors got delivered this morning, and I've already snapped them together, A-wings just arrived, so I'll dig into them soon too. Interceptor kits are almost identical to the normal Ties with different wing assemblies, but there are a few small differences in detail. I was half expecting them to mold the entire panels in one go again like they did for Vader's Tie, but nope, these are assembled out of a framework and panels, more like the normal Tie kits. Little more complicated, and a few minor seams, but you don't have to paint over the multi colored sprue marks like on Vader's. The feature I really do like though is that they've included an alternate stand mounting adapter. It's a simple hex mount that'll let you plug the stand into the rear of the ball, rather than directly underneath, and the ships just look much more natural mounted that way. The mount works exactly the same for the older Tie kits, so now I'm wondering if I can shapeways myself some copies of that new adapter to use with those kits now. Edit: Update #2, put together one of the A-wings, and it's a beautiful little kit. I'm calling complete shenanigans on the scale though. That old "9.6m" number for the length? No way is that even remotely close. The numbers work out for the kit to be the proper length, but the pilot is scaled somewhere between 1/48th and 1/60th. He absolutely dwarfs the 1/72 X-wing pilots. I just think no one actually ever bothered to correctly scale the ship in the first place, so it's a little late at this point. Also, yes, the turret is clearly intended to go with something in a much smaller scale. To be around 1/72nd, the actual turret part of the gun tower should have been the full size of the baseplate it's mounted on. Still nicely detailed, but it looks quite silly next to the ship kits. -
I'd guess it's very unlikely? The main attachment on the Bandai hardpoints seems to be the pylons clipping in, with the pegs not really serving as much support. With a little work to the pylons, you might be able to get those weapons to peg in (and they might stay reasonably well with just the pegs even), but I don't know how difficult it would be, or how much reshaping it would take to get the pylons to clip securely.

Don't know what anyone else is doing, but I'm planning on building a pair each of Tie Interceptors and A-Wings tomorrow when they get delivered. -
Not to dig up an old thread, but I recently acquired some spare parts, and did some surgery on my 171s to get them back into one piece. I'd had both of them sitting taken apart while I tried to solve the various issues. So, after fiddling around with the shoulder assemblies, I'm betting that a lot of the broken upper triangles really were just due to the assembly lines either skipping a step for efficiency, or doing things out of order. You can assemble the shoulder parts in a couple different ways, depending on what steps you do first. Ideally? You'd sandwich the NUNS triangles around the metal shoulder, screw it together, then tab the shoulder pauldrons into place, and screw them together too. That's about as low-stress as you can get. On the other hand, let's say you already screwed/glued the pauldron halves together (which is basically the condition anyone with broken triangles is in trying to replace them, unless you can successfully disassemble the pauldrons). Now you've got two options. 1. Clip the NUNS triangles into the pauldrons, and screw them together, then snap the assembly over the shoulder joint. 2. Clip the NUNS triangles into the pauldrons, snap the assembly over the shoulder joint, and then screw the NUNS triangles together. I get the feeling that a lot of the assembly line workers took option 1, or otherwise attempted to clip the NUNS triangles over the shoulders after they were already screwed together tightly, resulting in stress fractures near the screw when they were forcibly spread around the shoulder. So, if you're having to repair or replace the NUNS triangles, try not to snap them over the shoulder while they're glued or screwed together tightly (Shapeways replacements might handle this stress better though, so it might not matter as much). The way I got mine back together was to 1) clip the two halves of the triangles into the pauldrons (without screwing them together), 2) rotating them to the battroid position to hold them in place, 3) clipping the triangles back over the shoulders, and 4) only screwing the triangles together after the shoulders were correctly clipped on. I may have screwed the triangles half-way to keep the halves aligned, but they were loose enough to easily slip over the shoulder.

I don't think you can really rule anyone out that simply, just because "post Space War 1" is so vague. There's no telling when this study even occurred. Given the events of Macross 7, and Millia's political position? It would have been really easy for her to pull whatever strings she wanted to get such a study done. And given that music had just flat out saved the Macross 7 fleet, and possibly the universe in its entirety, it would have been extremely appropriate for her to do so. However it goes though, I expect this is just going to wind up being another audience troll like the Minmay locket in Frontier. Who this mysterious Lady M is may not matter any more than the details of who Ranka's mother was. Was she important? Sure. Did she contribute anything to the plot besides being a background figure partly responsible for the situation? Not really. I think ever since the original series, the people behind Macross have been well aware of just how desperate the fans are for any tidbits about how their favorite characters ended up years later, and they will use this sort of teasing to milk the fans for all the hype they can get. -

I remember seeing "Shattered Glass" with him in the main role, and to be honest, he did seem like he was playing the exact same character. On the flip side of that though, that film received fairly good reviews, and the whiny Anakin persona just seemed much more appropriate for that role. The two films were released about a year apart, so who knows if the roles leaked into each other, or Hayden just can't play anything else. -
Sadly the F got shortchanged on production runs, since it seemed the excitement had been run out with the 19S and Fire Valk. I'm torn between the 19F and the 19P for my favorite of that mold.
