See.. that just means that they had no excuse whatsoever. ALL of the plugs should have been red. The fact that they went to the trouble to mold some in red, while others got molded in white? That's just pants-on-head stupid. Suppose it's possible that they didn't have room in the molds to make all the necessary changes to get them all in red, but come on. I've seen the sprues that a lot of the VF-1's parts come molded on in the kit. Just put the plugs on the same sprues as the pieces they're plugging and you'll never have a mismatch.

I remember the Yamato being a very deep red as well, and the photos so far seem consistent with that, but I won't be shipping mine for a couple weeks still, so I can't do a direct comparison yet. The covers though.. that's just.. really, really stupid. I mean.. ok, I get it, there are color schemes to deal with, and they probably just bulk ordered a bunch of plugs all molded in white. But come on. Stickers?? Would it really have been that hard to make them in the same red that 90% of the valk is molded in? Or at the very least paint them all? Yeeesh.. I'm going to feel no qualms whatsoever about drilling out those plugs and throwing them in the trash.

So, judging by the molding on the left shoulder, it actually looks like they just have it mounted backwards. It's the same shape as the right side, but without the molded slot on the bottom edge. Given the acrobatics the VF-2SS's structure goes through to relocate joints during transformation, I wouldn't be all that surprised if it's possible to not completely rotate the arm around, and have it wind up looking like that. Could also be that the shoulder covers can pop off, and it was just reattached the wrong way. Looks like there's a trap door in the shoulder covers that folds out for something as well, so it might be easy to remove the whole thing to prevent breakage.

Yeeesh.. wish we had gotten those prototypes in some ways. How do they keep screwing up what was better before?

Yeah, I just had no idea the character was actually played by him, but immediately recognized him from the figure. -

Oh.. hah. See, I have to say that's probably one of the best action figure likenesses I've seen in a long time. I've never been a big fan of those movies, and was thinking, "Looks more like Paul Reiser." Mission accomplished. -
You can also see a few emerge from the slots on the booster packs.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Chronocidal replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I just was having a conversation about this sort of thing, and came to an interesting realization. They're not selling games as content anymore.. they're trying to sell you games as a service. You never finish it, it just keeps going, and you keep chucking money into it to let you keep playing. Far as Bafflefront goes.. make it like original Battlefront, and I'd care. As it stands, I'm getting to the point where I'm just not even buying any games anymore.- 6891 replies

There are actually a few shades of the smaller kites, I think, but none of that solves the problem of the fast packs.

A quick google image search turned up a shot of a supplementary sheet that came with extra low-vis kites for the low-vis Roy VF-1S, but I also want to say that I think the VF-11B markings also had some? Those may not be the proper size though. Edit: Actually, if you look outside the VF-1s, a ton of releases seem to include them. The VF-19s, VF-4, VF-22s, and VF-0s (Yamato and Arcadia) all look like they have two sizes of gray kites on their sticker sheets. Looks like there may even be a couple in the GBP-1 set, and I'm fairly sure the VF-17s have a decent selection as well, but can't find a picture at the moment.

Actually no, frankly this was far closer to something like G-Gundam than I expected, right down to the first move basically being a shining finger. I'm waiting anxiously for someone to dub over the fight with clips from Domon and Chibodee's match.

Not to disparage WWE, but I think that's about the level of what was shown here. I think this is going to take a lot of definition and rules before this approaches anything like an actual sport. The one punch first bout was funny though, and I laughed pretty hard throughout at the fact that it actually happened. The bot picking up the lighting rig and twirling it like a staff had me really surprised though.

Honestly, I do it all the time, because they don't allow open heating elements In my building. It's better than eating them cold, in any case.

I expect after the smoke settles from the Hayate custom, we'll see Mirage's packs get released. Hopefully they'll rework the packaging and pack in the reaction missiles for the rest of them. I'm probably going to be ordering a few extra sets of whoever's packs are easiest to repaint, if that's the case, and use a couple on the 31As.

Appreciate the thoughts, and thank you! I know what you mean about the joint issue. The VF-1's arms were entirely rigged using worm-gear assemblies throughout to avoid the failings of other joint systems, and they would hold their own weight well enough, but the stress on the axles was very heavy. The biggest core issue is probably that LEGO needs to start producing metal cross-axles, or needs to introduce a new tier of rotational options that rely on a 2x2 stud axle radius. I got inspired for the VF-1 by a lot of absolutely gigantic Gundam builds I saw online, which had extensive internal rigging for balance, and joints built from things like crane turntables to better support the massive loads. Sadly, due to the nature of Ideas project restrictions, I don't think we're going to see any new pieces for the Voltron set. We really need some better in-line rotation joint options. The best thing we've got currently are the big round AT-AT leg joints, and they can be stacked in series to give some great strength to larger builds, but they're an odd shape that can get hard to build around, and aren't very useful if you need something like a shoulder, thigh, or bicep rotation. I admit though, I am a sucker for plate layering methods for subtle shaping, even if they do build up weight and bulk very quickly. The fancier new curved slope bricks are really handy in a lot of cases, but I think they tend to get overused, or misused in some cases, especially on bigger projects with compound curves. The pic I posted a while back of the construction of the UCS Slave I is a prime example, where they haphazardly stacked a series of saucer-like plates up and down the hull, when rows of single-wide slopes and curved bricks would have looked a great deal better. I really do like the smooth look those curved plates give on smaller projects though, and they look great on your VB-6. Also, not to worry, there's nothing to really digress from here, it's all LEGO in the end.

Oh, I wish I had your parts selection, but I know the issue of weight all too well. I'd still love to go back and finish my 1/18th VF-1S, just because the proportions were so good at that size, but making the legs solid to support the whole thing killed my motivation to finish it, and I wound up doing the same thing, sizing down to 1/32.

If it's die-cast, maybe, but I really hope it isn't. Seriously, die-cast may be sturdier than some plastics, but it's a huge detriment to anything with a lot of moving parts.

Oh man, that is beautiful! The post fooled me, I thought the thread hadn't gotten updated in a long time. Can't wait to see a VF-14!

So I have a friend I discussed this with, and he's more into the Battletech lore than I am. At one point he mentioned that the Madcat is literally named in-universe for a target recognition computer's attempt to differentiate the design between a Marauder (the Battletech name for the Glaug) and a Catapult, which was another classic reverse-knee-jointed mech with shoulder missile batteries. So yeah, even in-universe, it's recognized as similar.

Macross Δ (Delta) Movie Gekijō no Walkūre (Passionate Walkure)
Chronocidal replied to no3Ljm's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think that's actually kind of my biggest letdown with the series, honestly. They made such a big deal in the first couple of episodes about Hayate's skill in battroid mode.... aaaaaaaannnndd then they forgot about the other two modes, and we got enough scissors to put Fiskars out of business. There were so many potential ways the entire series could have gone that would have been so much more interesting than where it actually went.- 810 replies

That much is pretty obvious I think, they don't want to be tied down to all the original authors. I do give them credit for going straight to Zahn for material regarding Thrawn though, and not just wimping out and making an obvious rip-off. On the other hand though, given the lack of originality seen at pretty much every level of production, I seriously question the ability of the current production team to actually develop any compelling original content at all.

That's a sweet pair of 19-ey goodness there, congrats! Cute drawing too! -
That would get them a ton of sales I'd think, considering that's about the original Yamato target price. Depending on quality and availability, they might be worth a shot. At the very least, they'd be a nice companion to other 1/72 scale aircraft, which has always been a major sticking point for some folks with the 1/60 valks.

I mean, that's been my going theory since the day I saw it. That pan around them on the island just made it way too conspicuous to ignore. See, there's one thing that strikes me really hard about the new movies, and new canon in general, for better or for worse. Despite unilaterally declaring the old EU as non-canon, that hasn't seemed to deter them in the slightest from picking and choosing bits and pieces that they liked, and reincorporating them. Whether that's because they really actually liked the EU, or just are creatively inept to the point that they couldn't think of something different, is up for grabs. My personal leaning is to the latter, given how much we've seen recycled from everything on every level. The other thing that struck me as interesting was that the timeline is pretty darn convenient. Not only did they distance themselves from the original trilogy enough to allow a new generation of characters to come into their prime, but they left themselves a lot of room for filling in the blanks, even to an excessive and detrimental level from a storytelling perspective, since we needed a ton of filler novels to explain half the movie. But the fun part? There's nothing really directly contradicting a good portion of the EU yet. They brought Thrawn back already. Who's to say that the overall plot of a lot of the EU material won't be directly adapted? Sure, they're going to change names, and a lot of the smaller details. They might not be Solo twins, but they might be siblings. And Kylo may have killed a renamed Mara Jade expy. They left enough room in the storyline that they could directly adapt a ton of EU material, with minimal changes.

Ugh.. really hoping these dumb things aren't glued in place. I get that they're trying to improve on the little things, but these don't look like they match, and the screw covers on the YF-19 were some of the most painful things I ever had to remove to fix the wing joints.
