it's most likely a "stunt" to get alto to finally go back to the saotome mansion. he knows that alto and sheryl acted together in the promotional video, and i'm sure he's asked around and found out that they hang out a lot in school together. so he at least believes that she's important to him. and besides, the "alto" cry by Sheryl before she fainted was a dead giveaway. and as it looks like from the preview, the "stunt" worked.

Mao's too old. (although if you look at alto's father, he does look old too. maybe kabuki actors don't age well. hehe.) Alto's flashbacks as a child was also in Frontier (see the white outlines in the sky). Mao disappeared 11 years ago. and before that i presume she was on the 117th fleet the entire time several years prior. thus, she couldn't have been in that flashback. Even as a remote possibility, i don't see it. but nevertheless, you're right that it would be a biggest kick in the balls for speculators everywhere. "Ranka or Sheryl's grandma? hell no, she's alto's mother!!"

wow. and right after i finish watching "Shutter" (original version). now i'm creeping out.

Watching the subs for ep18, and i noticed something quite fascinating: the first mention (at least from what i remember) of an actual Senate within a macross fleet. Before the entire fleet folded (according to the news report, its 7th official long-distance fold), the president had to get the approval of the senate. actually, not just an approval, but a bill actually had to be filed, heard and approved before a fleet-wide long distance fold is executed. In other words, there has to be a law approving/allowing the fold. another fascinating insight into the government/politics of the macross universe. quite the red tape, eh? quite a far cry from max and milla folding wherever they wanted. hehe.

NNOOOOOO!!!! I doubt Michael would be the one to wake him up to Sheryl's feelings, since Alto might not take him too seriously. Maybe it could be his quasi-brother who gives him the bridge-bunny type epiphany.

so many funny moments. but if i have to think of my first ROFLMAO moment ever in Macross history, i'd have to say.... When Hikaru meets Misa and the bridge bunnies for the first time after his training, introduced by Roy Focker.

Even just watching the RAw, this episode is absolutely freakin AWESOME!!! In just one episode, you get all these WIN moments: - Battle 25/Frontier ba-bee!!!! Looks awesome beside the quarter in the OP. - New OP!! the new OP is absolutely wonderful. No knock on triangler, but Lion is definitely better just with the duet of these two characters we've watched for 18 eps. Animation and voice harmony is superb. - Battle 25 cannon! alright!! - Finally! Dr. Mao Nome! - That "shopping spree" thing with the bridge bunnies (specially Cathy) was so FUNNY. hehe. half-expected alto to walk into the lingerie section. - Sheryl!!! man, i really feel for her. but she'll pick up the pieces, and get better and play a crucial role in the war/conflict. her being so down at this stage of the series indicates that she's on the way up again by the end. - next episode title is "triangler", did i hear that correctly? oooh. more alto-sheryl development, i hope. forget the little queen, she's enjoying herself anyway. - SDFM/DRYL moments! Ranka getting introduced in a presscon with "oboitaimasuka" playing in the background. sheryl holding her face in the rain with pleasant shock as she says "alto". all in all, this episode is fantastic. it's choc full of reveals, but without sacrificing the usual things that make macross so fascinating. the songs. the triangle. light-hearted comedy. ok. now time to look for the subs! but this early, count this as one of my faves so far. oh btw, what do you think was that thing in the last scene? the ultimate vajra queen? protoculture?

Any chance Sharon Apple was Fairy 1? Just a thought., throwing it out there. How does it work with the timeline?

yeah, i think they learned their lesson from the first burton batman movie. NEVER conclusively kill off your super-villain. you never know when you would like to use them as a plot device. scarecrow survived and was able to make a minor appearance in movie2. heck, Ra's could be alive for all we know. same with Dent. Let's just say dead until stated otherwise. hehe.

actually, this is what will happen to macross if it gets redone by the guys who did the new BSG. after all, they did turn starbuck into a girl.
