  1. Sheryl, lion didn't turn out too bad, now did it?
  2. an additional thought: Ranka started to sing while in pain, vajra started to get more violent. Ozma declares, "this is just like what happened to the 117th" could it be possible...while ranka was a child, she was pissed off somehow and the vajra started destroying the 117th fleet. of course, the vajra left the little queen alive. so... ranka was the cause of the 117th going bye-bye?
  3. wow! just... wow!! the plot thickens! great catch!
  4. yup, i did say "pure pilot excellence in battle," and not "best combat pilot". on the other hand, even if i went so far as specifically saying, "best attacker" or something like that, i can't really rule basara out. we're talking about "skill", and not kill count. in fact, i'd say that when Hikaru and Max were hitting the pods' weak spots instead of blowing them up, that required so much more "battle/combat" skills than usual. so... even if basara refuses to attack, i can't say for certain that he won't be effective or deadly when he does decide to. all evidence indicates that he would be. he doesn't seem to have difficulty hitting with those speaker pods. imagine if those were live rounds. so, bottom line, as much as dislike basara, i think he's still up there even as a combat pilot. (although milla did give him a lesson or two in flying gerwalk. hehe.)
  5. Thanks for the brilliant gif whispo!! this is a great thing you're doing here, and I will always appreciate it.
  6. I agree. Ranka's absurd and unreasonable jealousy does deserve a slap, hence a "JEALOUS SLAP" (hehe, sorry i'm not affected that easily. ) but i'd still call it a MINMAY SLAP. now if only it was juxtaposed with a destroid exploding, it would have been perfect!
  7. NO FAIR!!! Now how do i possibly argue with that when you've quoted the universal phrase for making the impossible possible?!! ummm.... errr.... arg..... ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWAH!!! damm u!!
  8. michael! after just watching ep20, how in hell could i vote any other way?? check back again in 5 weeks or so. btw, since you differentiated between SDFM and DYRL Roy, might as well differentiate between Guld Bowman movie edition, and Guld Bowman OAV edition. makes a helluva a lot of difference, if you ask me.
  9. haha, i'm actually near marikina city, so i guess i'd better start having a personal body guard from now on (not that it did President Glass any good).
  10. as to time, there's a thread discussing that, and i don't think there's a definitive answer. i'm guessing she can't get out. i suppose the chamber has a safety lock in place to make sure that user does not step out prematurely.
  11. go sheryl!! take over piloting the Blue Lion, err, the blue VF25!! if sheryl does start to pilot, i bet you she'd be better than kakizaki. that way, he would still remain on the bottom of the list.haha.
  12. funny how no one seems to be bothered about glass' death. that random SMS raramia lookalike (or is she a mere lookalike? wink wink) got more talktime than the president.
  13. yup, got it after rereading. fixed.
  14. don't have the data, but i'm guessing Millia's up there. and if you include other mecha, then milla is probably the runaway winner.
  15. i just share my sentiment or opinion on the matter, and you call me a person with "little imagination"? what's with that? anyways, just to clarify, that fictional dialogue (between writer and audience) was not supposed to be taken seriously. it was tongue-in-cheek, and was not meant to be an argument against your opinion. but yeah... broken glasses with spotlight (yes, the spotlight is crucial!) = dismembered head. hehe.
  16. yeah, i actually remember that. in fact i was very happy seeing that episode. HA! basara can't fly gerwalk! clumsy bastard. can we just call him inherently gifted, but miserably untrained and unmotivated to learn?
  17. hehe. i'm as happy-going as the next guy, but i don't want michael to be still alive. it will actually ruin the beauty of ep 20. it's not pessimism at all. it's just that things are perfect that way they happened. sad but perfect. (Harold Crick not dying changed the novel from the greatest of all time, to a mere good one. sorry for the movie reference). anyways, here's that way i see it. sure, there's no overt and 100% anime-type sign that he's irrevocably dead, but the not so-subtle signs are there: anime death level 1 = gutted with blood flowing out his mouth. "meh, i've seen anime characters walk away from something way worse than that all the time." ha! that's not enough for you huh? OK! anime death level 2 = in his condition, sucked out into the space, and the way back is blocked! "damn. that's a clincher! hmmm... but then again, there's all this talk about freezing and compression and brera coming in to save the day..." woah! optimistic little bugger aren't you? I don't want to be be crass about it and show michael bursting apart in space. so how's this.... anime death level MAX!!! = close up of michael's broken glasses on the floor!!!!! ORRAAA!!!! "...damn. you win. RIP Michael Blanc."
  18. No, it's actually like this.... Shoji: whew. this is tough work. sad to kill of characters, but we have to. and for the next episode, we'll have to animate another SMS funeral, like the one we did for Raramia. Assistant: umm... boss, we didn't animate one for Raramia... Shoji: ... oh crrap. i forgot??? Assistant: yup. you were too hyped out about that scene where klan feeds pineapple salad to michael, that you completely forgot. Shoji: yeah, that was so funny. sigh. oh well, how do we fix this... I KNOW! let's pretend that Raramia isn't dead... Assistant: huh? but boss, we all saw her quedlun blow up; no way... Shoji (not listening): and then let's add a scene where she's dead on the floor due to the vajra attack! and michael would be crying about it and all that, not knowing that he's next... Assistant: boss, how the hell did she end up in this episode? she died way back in... Shoji (still not listening): ... and that way, come episode 21, we'll have a twin funeral for raramia and michael!! and klanklan would be doubly mad! i am a freakin genius!! no wonder those fans call me a a god, or something holy or something like that... Assistant: actually, that's the "Hory Froating Head", and i don't think that's meant to be... Shoji (in his own world by now): i AM a god!! yes! and next time, and for ep 22, we'll have megaroad 1 show up! but in ep 23, we'll reveal that it's not actually the megaroad 1, but one of those random megaroads that i've never talked about before.... and then we'll have klanklan eating all sorts of pineapple and steak, but she'll survive! this is so amazing!! can't wait for my next cameo...
  19. SHERYL ALL THE WAY!! always has been, and as each episode passes, even more. ep20 alone is enough to solidify this for eternity.
  20. what are you talking about? i remember it clearly.... happens in my dreams all the time. hehehe.
  21. When she started singing already, in her mind she was saying "ittai" over and over again, and as it echoed, they cut to a scene of vajra renewing their attack (not that it stopped actually). that means "it hurts", right? but you do have a point. who knows what grace has put into that song? besides, "susume susume frontier" sounds more like a battlecry than a lullaby, and that's grace's lyrics. the vajra coming out of the pipes and covering the sky reminded me so much of "Pitch Black" (the first Riddick movie). In fact, come to think of it, the vajra yellow lobsters do look similar to the monsters there. watch riddick much, shoji? hehe. those 4 negative votes have been constant regardless of the episode, so whoever they are, it's more like they're hating the series altogether, rather than actually analyzing and judging each episode. seriously, i don't even know why they bother going to this forum (or this talkback thread, in particular) if that's their beef.
  22. watching it again... and right now i'm getting a renewed and even greater respect for Minmay. i mean, right after Hikaru outright dumps her (and even slaps her), and even asks her to sing a song that Misa found, she still managed to sing splendidly and beat out the entire bodolza fleet. on the other hand, ranka couldn't even bring herself to sing properly. and all she saw was a hug. the best she could do was make the vajra more aggressive. hehe. p.s. when nanase was trying to comfort ranka during the vajra attack, what did sheryl say (while she was looking at them sideways)? was it "kibo"? what does that mean? thanks.
  23. damn it, i'm starting to sound like a broken record spewing "best.episode.ever" again and again. but IT IS! IT IS!! at least for now! oh man o man, let the man tears flow. damn, that death was very nicely done. perfect in all aspects. michael's character was developed just right, to make you feel that dreadful pang by the time he dies. the scene as he's about to be sucked out into space is absolutely brilliant. DAMN that stings. while i only watched the raw, and my japanese is very VERY limited, this episode penetrates on so many levels. i got it. it hit, and it ran deep. and how could I not love this episode? Sheryl is queen once again. her amazing show of unbelievable strength in the time of greatest despair trumps all. alto would be an ABSOLUTE FOOL if he picks ranka over sheryl. and, oh, for the WIN: the "MINMAY SLAP" on Ranka! yeah!! take that you simpering fool!!! dark episode, full of weight, brilliant pacing and mood was perfectly set. all in all, probably the best episode ever (yeah, i said it again). MACROSS at its finest. Can't wait for the klanklan killing spree. and for alto to push ranka off the building after another MINMAY slap. hehe. (j/k! no need to react.)
  24. DAMMIT!! And i thought i was fast enough to call dibs on that scene!! i haven't even finished watching the episode yet, and i rushed here already. waaaa. anyway, oh great and powerful whispo, may i also request that sheryl/ranka scene please? and to be more specific, of course i am referring to . hehe.
