So we were right all along... she is a miyazaki reject! although Nausicaa doesn't have a "mysterious" way of communicating with insects if i recall correctly. she just uses a whistle to calm them. and she just happened to sacrifice herself for the little ohmu. but in any case, i guess the analogy still works. but i still maintain that nausicaa is way way WAY cooler!

oh... in that case, that makes sense. only as to the plot, though. not any personality similarities between ranka and nausicaa (one of my all-time favorite characters). I agree with you on the sentiments towards ranka. i've been consistent in preferring sheryl over ranka, but i'm not a ranka hater (my jokes against her notwithstanding). and now with all this vile hate against her (and none of them are jokes, so i'm quite surprised, actually), i find myself holding back my pro-sheryl leanings, lest i find myself joined with the lynch mob heading ranka's way.

yeah.. if he meant the greek character, i don't get it. if he meant Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, i still don't get it. ranka's ok, but nausicaa is light years ahead of her when it comes to personality, IMHO.

I don't necessarily disagree with either one of you, but this one just struck me. was there any actualy episode where Galaxy was established as the power behind the scenes? Sure, we have grace and her multiple AIs, but aside from showing the galaxy fleet on cam while the AIs are talking, we don't see any indication that the Galaxy is actually the puppet master. Grace and Brera could be a secret faction inside the Galaxy (much the same way that they are now a secret faction in Frontier), and Galaxy could very well be a dead ship by now, also hijacked by Grace (which seems to be her plan for frontier too). A while back, when the vajra became so lame (massacred by Alto's rage), we started theorizing that the final conflict would be between the Galaxy and the Frontier. but with the Vajra coming back in full force (indestructible and deadly as ever, and even killing Michael), i think the focus went back to the Vajra. and grace's group could be relegated to that stereotype of a "a self-proclaimed puppet master who over-estimated his understanding of his puppets". anyway, whether the final conflict would be against the vajra (which recent developments seem to point to), or Galaxy or both, i believe it can be tied up in the remaining episodes. crossing my fingers!

oops. you're right. completely forgot about Nora! nasty but not tragic. but still, she should count as one of the few female deaths in macross. and Raramia, actually. and that random SMS raramia lookalike in episode 20. and... grace? on the other hand, i'd like to think that when it's time for leon to die, he'd squeal like a little girl. if he does, can we count him? hehe.

if i understood correctly, ranka's been planning to leave (hence her letters to ozma and nanase) even before meeting up with alto. so i'm guessing brera was always the planned ticket out of frontier. ranka just wanted to give it a final shot in the dark with alto in case he could accept ai-kun and come along for the ride. just my perception. haven't watched the subs yet, though, so i could be way, way off on this one.

well, granted there's no way of that happening in a macross series. but if it does... well, we'll know that sometime between production, Hideaki Anno shot SK in the head, and disguised himself with SK's skin.... would explain all the subtle eva hints...

and Nanase's particularly. her song of love will bring nanase back to life. let's just hope Luca doesn't pull a Shinji before she wakes up...

actually i think minmay is the closest thing. for people who wanted Hikaru and Misa to get together, Minmay was always the one who stood in the way. I wonder if those people had the same amount of hatred (and ill-wishes) that ranka's getting these days from Alto-Sheryl fans.

a PSP on one side, and sheryl on the other? They can lock me up as long as they want!
