The Macross Deculture cook book
dreamweaver13 replied to Isamu Starkiller's topic in Movies and TV Series
here's one: Plastic display food = free food, three bridge bunnies, and disco fever!! -
so that's what it was? too bad Basara, in his trek across the galaxy, is more than likely to find them. then misa will finally get to know the truth about Hikaru and Minmei's jettisoned lovechild. Lakan, Good to see you here. with macross, once you post.... Milspex, Aw, come on, where's the love? hehe. j/k. it's not so much as putting them on a pedestal, but finding their culture very interesting.

What's with the lolicon in Frontier?
dreamweaver13 replied to jollyreaper's topic in Movies and TV Series
and don't forget the "moe" fang!! As for this ranka-lolicon thing... is it really so bad? yeah, i guess there may be a trend to go for cute and kawaii in anime these days (still arguable, though), but macross frontier has done well to cater to that "trend" tastefully. So they designed their 15 year old Ranka a little younger-looking than usual, but petite and child-looking 15 year olds aren't as rare as you might think, specially in asian countries. in that sense, there's nothing weird about ranka's design, appearance or behavior. The treatment on Ranka is vey reasonable. it's no "lucky star" or "SOS haruhi", i tell you that. It's just... cute. nothing wrong with that. that doesn't have to be automatically equated to something sexual. Or placed in another perspective, "moe" or "lolicon" is not that much of a new concept. even in the original SDFM, Sammy teases the three spies as "lolicon" because they have minmei dolls. which means that, at that time, Minmei was pretty much considered "moe" or "loli" already. you could even say that Ranka and Minmei have some similarities (and in some respects, Minmei migth be even more childish at times. hehe.), minmei just happened to be a more... developed 15 yr old. So at the end of it all, what is the gripe actually? is it a matter of characters looking younger than their age? or is it a matter of characters actually finally looking and acting their age (klan klan excluded, of course. she's an anomaly). As what the OP suggested, Rei and Asuka aren't so bad because they looked and acted maturely. but that's just it. wasn't it more natural for 14 year olds to look and act more or less like Ranka? As for klanklan... well let's face it, now that's textbook "moe". can't defend that. hehe. but all in all, i find micro klanklan uber cute. -
Why does Ranka always run everywhere?
dreamweaver13 replied to DeeBot's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ultimately, Ranka running and trying to catch up to the concert (and to any other appointment of hers for that matter) is way more dramatic than a shot of her riding a train. (unless we want ranka to start talking to herself, and make this series even more eva-like than it already is. hehe). -

Funny how Birdman is leading in the polls, but not too much posts about it. -

Macross Frontier Episode 17 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
dreamweaver13 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
that's actually what we would expect. so even in that sense, SK turned the ball around on us. pause 5 seconds and then... gotcha!! and besides, waiting one whole week for the punchline (that ozma is all fine and dandy) would be in bad taste, i think. it wouldn't work as well as it did in ep17's ending. Legend718, most are of the belief that the new OP is just for this episode only. we'll have the "real" new one hopefully come next episode (or the one after that). -
The Macross Deculture cook book
dreamweaver13 replied to Isamu Starkiller's topic in Movies and TV Series
Oh yeah, forgot about the Spam (or rations, whatever it is). But then again, when they were eating the Spam, hikaru was still trying to sneak a peek at bathing minmei, minmei was snuggling up to Hikaru while sleeping, and there was definitely some sexual tension there. wasn't until the giant tuna head that things turned bleh for them. hehe. -

Granted it's too early to tell, but what about the Vajra? Assuming there are as many Vajra are there are Zentraedi (or maybe even more), wouldn't they be even more of a threat to both the Zentraedi and the Protodevlin? We're not even sure if there's any spiritia to suck off of the Vajra. -

Right now, we still don't know what strawberry pie does. i wonder... And after watching ep17 again... cup of coffee = escape death by cyborg i still go by my earlier theory: Giant Tuna Head = no libido. (12 days, and the best you can do is a mock wedding ceremony??) -

Now that you mention it, you may be right! since they were a transport service before, maybe they were called Speed Miracle Spacey. good catch. In fact, I think someone posted way, way, WAY back when the SMS thread was still open, that the song sounded like an ad for an express delivery service. boy, did he get that right. -

Finally got to watch the subs! By now, most of you have already pointed these out, but nevertheless: 1. my, my, Ranka sure does have a naughty mind. haha. 2. I'd shout BOMBA!, but about ten thousand of you have already done it! haha! It was great to hear these oldies again. and no mere car radio cameo this time. 3. Already pointed out, but it is still foreboding. Ai-kun tearing of alto's paper plane. But only after the plane attacked him, mind you. 4. In Ranka's apartment, when Alto was giving that speech about competition ("we or they will survive"), there was a clear shot of a poster of Sheryl Nome. Awww. can't ranka get popular without stepping on Sheryl's fame (as it looks like from the preview). 5. LOVE that punishment scene, with Cathy acting the "oni". also LOVE the face of Klan klan when Michael was pushing her down to hide. "watashi wa..." 6. Luca's walking the path to the dark side! 7. Ok final confirmation that Grace and the male agent are one and the same. 8. and let's get to the key moment of the episode for us Macross fans... haha, what a gag that bastard kawamori pulled on us. But rather than focus on the food and other circumstances that kept Ozma alive (man, it's a COMPLEX science, i tell you), it was amusing how the differenct characters spoke and reacted in the hospital. and they seem to represent everyone that has anything to do with Macross. Michael said "wouldn't it be emotional if he died?". hehe. that's Shoji Kawamori right there, talking to "new" macross fans. Ozma said "i told you i wouldn't die" while looking at the 4th wall. That's SK again, talking to us "old" macross fans. that's him saying PSYCH! Cathy/Ranka saying "baka" and ranka exclaiming that she was so worried: that's basically all of us, who were pretty SURE ozma was gonna die, and were already tearing up when we saw the technician looking at Ozma's cockpit. Alto giving a smiling "hmp" as if he's saying, "damn, he got me this time". yeah, that us again, after realizing that the joke's on us! And finally Kanalia and Luca with their blank faces are the "new" macross fans who haven't seen SDFM. "ok, so he didn't die. what's the big fuzz all about?" -

I don't think it's so much that people are dismissing Fire Bomber as nothing more than an old and forgotten band, but more like that they're simply... old. We have to consider that by the time of macross F, Fire Bomber is already around 19 years old. That's an eternity in music years. Granted, they're already legend status, but they still haven't been active in the music biz for a long time (i presume, unless Basara and Mylene came back for a reunion thing).Compare it to our timeline, where Britney Spears (sheryl) and Myley Cyrus (Ranka) rules the airwaves, once upon a time, Bon Jovi (Fire Bomber) was king. Look further, and you still have the Beatles or Elvis (Minmei). Old-school, but definitely legends in their own right. but you can't blame someone for saying "Yech, Bon Jovi? isn't that a bit too old?" (like a bridge bunny told Bobby). * the analogies are only examples to make a point. no reactions needed. hehe. -

the random, unnamed Alaska Base Communications Officer who was laid off by Misa's father just so he can give the slot in the communications center to Misa. imagine, she would have been the sole survivor of alaska base if not for misa coming into the picture. "Hayase Misa teme!!!!", she screamed before she died.
