Hey, whatever works, right? The results speak for themselves. Simple, but effective. And that's still less ghetto than my setup, which doesn't even involve a tripod and uses tracing paper for light diffusion. -

I just used a Q-tip for the weathering. It sounds like yours might have dried out, like MJ said. The soot is a little bit hard, but nothing that I can't work with. The snow is still powdery on mine. I've had my kits for about 2 years now. I put it straight onto the bare plastic, since Yamato valks have a matt finish, so it stays on pretty well. I know I'll have to apply some kind of flat coat before weathering any Bandai valks. Oh, and that 171 looks fantastic! Excellent work, as always, MJ. -

You know, for years I always thought Kakizaki had a standard mass production unit. I never knew he had his own custom color unit until Yamato released one. So I can believe that one of their employees just got confused and grabbed the wrong one. The people employed at all these shops most likely don't know or don't care about Macross, after all. It's just a job.

Getting the canopy open is a true test of patience. I opened it the first time after much cajoling and not having clipped my nails in almost a week so I could pry the canopy upwards. The second time, it snapped off at the hinge with the column that slides up. Luckily it broke at the joint where it's glued, so I just superglued it back on. But I've added the detailing I wanted, so that canopy is never going to open again for as long as I own it.

I was just kidding around, though not to make light of being one of the ones who missed the preorder window, as I've been on that side of the fence many times too, and it sucks, especially if it's something you really had your eye on. I'm really feeling that Otacute will open theirs sometime tonight. Get your auto-refresh/auto-alert addons ready...

I have both the red and blue uniform Sheryls. My red one is just wearing her suspenders and hat. One figure that I really disliked was the very first 1kuji Sheryl. But now that I've had it for awhile, it's grown on me. Still think the face is way off though... EDIT: Also picked up the construction bikini Ranka since it was cheap. The quality is fairly poor. Pretty much game prize quality, but cleaner. Can't believe Bandai had these selling for like 7k yen originally. But hey, it's Ranka in a bikini. This is for you fellow pervs out there!

Amiami now puts up their preorder page with start time several hours in advance. Good luck getting one from them though. It's the online equivalent of a Black Friday mob rush, though no one gets trampled to death. So there's that...

Yeah, as much as I like some of these PVC figures, I'm not paying 100k yen for them. I have never once seen the black kimono Sheryl for sale anywhere. Picked up the purple one way back for about 16k yen, which makes it one of the most expensive figures I've ever purchased. Definitely one of the best Sheryl figures around. Which might not be saying all that much, given so many sub-par Sheryl figures, IMO.

That wouldn't be the first time. I remember the price for the 25G reached as high as ~$240 prior to the release date, but then dropped to around $200 immediately after.

Ah, so they got wise and knew it'd still sell out in moments even at full retail price. Even HLJ only offered 5%, instead of their usual 10-15% discount. Still, its not above MSRP so I'm not complaining.
