Help me pick my next Valk?
Goobermunch posted a topic in ToysIt's time to grow my collection, but I'm agonizing over what to pick up next. I'd love input from the forums to help guide the purchase. My options: Brera's VF-27 + Super Parts. This is the least expensive option. I'd like to finish out my collection of MacF Valks at some point. Isamu's VF-19 Adv. This is middling expensive. It looks sweet, and I saw Macross Plus when it appeared in the U.S. somehow. It will fit in well with my VF-25s (thanks to its super parts), while being a total throwback to Macross Plus. Also, I don't have any VF-19s. A YF-29: Alto's--Nope. Not enough money in the bank account this week. Ozma's--Right at the upper limit of what I can afford. Roy's--Doable. I can get this one plus the super parts for about what I'll pay for Ozma's. Isamu's--Easy. Cheap. I'll have to hunt a bit for super parts. Rod's--The cheapest option. But no super parts. I really like Rod's paint scheme. I love the fact that Valks come with add-on packs. I've gone out of my way to obtain the Yamato Super Parts and Armored Parts for my VF-1S and VF-1J. I have super parts for my RVF-25, Armored Parts for my VF-25F, Tornado Parts for my VF-25G, and Ozma's flying a naked VF-25S. The way they integrate with the figures pleases that part of my brain that likes good design. Sell me on the virtues of the various options. Help me, Macross World Forums, you're my only hope! --G

Whatever happened to those 1/48 Frontier kits or toys?
Hikaru1234567890 posted a topic in ToysHey guys! I was going through Toy Ark and was going through the Macross section and then I saw this. http://news.toyark.com/2009/05/13/new-macross-frontier-148-vf-25-other-models-announced-1271 It would have been cool to have seen them released, but it looks like they where actually TRANSFORMABLE! I mean why didn't Bandai release them!? And if you look at the other pictures, why didn't they release Klans Rare? It would be cool to at least have Klans Rare or at least the 25 or 27. Not sure if anyone else posted something about this awhile ago, but I just want to know what made Bandai change there mind. I mean I know about the Renewals, Other projects or stuff but it kinda bugs me that they just dropped it...

[Questions] 1st Time Model Builder
Koteng posted a topic in Model kitsHello MW Forums! As the thread title suggests, I have never built a model before and I am here to humbly request for some help. Because frankly, I have no idea where else to ask. To add to the challenge, my first model will be a Variable-Fighter. Bandai 1:72 VF-27 Lucifer to be exact. So yeah. An inexperienced person trying to build a complex kit: something is bound to go wrong. That is why I am seeking the wise model builders of this forum to aid me through my first journey. But that doesn't mean that I didn't do some research of my own. I've read MechTech’s Beginner’s Model Building, a good overall tutorial to understand the basics. I've also read/saw Jarrod’s fantastic review of his VF-25. I plan to transform my VF-27 frequently and treat it more like a toy than a model. So although I aspire to have the skills to create such detailed work like Jarrod’s, right now I just want to add enough details on my first model so it doesn't look like a cheap plastic toy. To begin with, I have 3 main questions: 1) Like the other VF-25 kits, the VF-27 model kit comes with both decals and stickers. Would stickers suffice or should I just take the time and effort of adding the decals? From what I gathered, the stickers are meant to be used for inexperienced modelers like myself. If I were to use stickers, I fear that they will eventually peel off after many transformations. I could try adding a top coat to seal the stickers, but then I worry about accidentally sealing the model in place with the sealant. One more thing, is it obvious that stickers are, well, stickers compared to decals from a distance? Although the picture is blurry, a stickered VF-27 doesn't look that bad: On the other hand, I fear if I chose to use the decals I will mess-up a few of them due to my inexperience. But there has to be a first time for everything. Do decals wear off easily over time? In the end, which one should I use as a first-time modeler? 2) Another question, how do you create crisp black lines for detailing seen in Jarrod’s VF-25 model? I did a little research and found some Gundam ink pens that are used to fill in the indents of their models, and any excess are wiped away. Which begs the question, how well does the ink stay if it can be simply wiped away? Is there another method for adding the lines? 3) Lastly, although the VF-27 model doesn't need paint (except the pilots), are there places or pieces of the model that you would recommend, or essential, to paint? A review from HobbyLink painted some ‘innards’ of the VF-27 with gunmetal. Simple, but effective at emphasizing the piece: In general, what should I be aware of when building the model? What must I do and what newbie mistakes should I avoid doing? Gah, I have so many questions! I know most of my questions should really be based on my preference, but I really don’t want to screw-up my first model. Call me a wimp, but I am not diverting from the instruction manual without any help. My kit won’t be arriving for another week, so I appreciate and any tips and tricks, even insults, that you would like to share before I begin my endeavor. Thanks!
VF-27Kai Sandalphon SES
dialNforNinja posted a topic in Fan WorksMade this unit up for my Macross Triangle Frontier pilot, Miranda Astra (signed as a five point star) Rockwell. Since Mira isn't a hoplophobe, she retains the Quantum Beam Rifle, though it's chromed and has a (completely nonfunctional) microphone shaped addition to the stock to be incorporated into mecha-scale choreography. The barrier knife in the shield is replaced by a speaker pod gun, so the hip dongles are remodeled from uselessly light machineguns to carry a VF-25 style one on each side, and the head is very close to the VF-27 Beta Normal Type except for having a sculpted lower face. The SES Boosters are, naturally, optional. The shoulder speakers can fold down and be visually the same as the stock mechas, thoguh they don't have the same degree of protection for the joint due to the more intricate structure. She uses Sunbird Squadron colors, aka "Player1" in my game so where Brera's Lucifer is the top row, Miranda's Sandalphon is the bottom row. Wingman colors for my game reverse the yellow and bright orange on the Grace Type.
