Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

Wow I had forgotten just how similar they were, right down to the shade of brown. I'm so used to seeing the Yamato version, with the lighter beige/cream color for Kakizaki and a noticeably darker brown for the, er, brownies. They should've used the Alaska base green variant for Kakizaki. Whether he deserves it or not, he does get a hero unit. -
One available for 28k. https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1104471510&ref=list&keyword=マクロス

I wonder if it can sit in the cockpit if you take the wings off...

^ What @no3Ljmsaid above regarding panel washing. One other thing to note is that Flory's tends to darken some once you top coat it, so keep that in mind. Mechanical pencil works well too, and is what I generally use for the super fine Yamato panels.

Love the TV Miria. Just need a Mylene VF-11 to go with that.

And nothing turns a career woman on like a man who can't hold down a steady job. I would find it more believable that NY is breaking into people's homes and stealing their 31As than taking a loss on each unit for our sorry asses.

Indeed. Even on Mandarake the aftermarket price has now crept up to 28k. https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1103292917&ref=list&keyword=マクロス

No no lol The left two are from the XL line, and the two on the right are from the standard size Eaglemoss line. 1701 and 1701-A should be identically sized. Make the C a tad bit smaller and it should be in scale with the A pictured above. -
I like that! I've been pondering where to stick the JUST MARRIED decal on my Yamato 1D. Across the chest doesn't look too bad at all.

She's just trying to be humorous. Although I think she can do better than that. -

LOL Both nacelles are nice and perfectly straight with each other and the rest of the ship. The C is really nice. But I do have many of their standard size ships. I'll get some comparison shots when I get home. -
What's happening here?

I'll probably quit after Focker's 1S as far as VF-1s go. They're nice but too big and out of place among my 1/60s. TBH I only bought Hikaru and Roy from the Yamato 1/48 line, so I guess that's my limit for that scale. I'd rather Bandai knock my socks off with a 1/48 VF-25. I recall they teased one years ago. I still want it!

Finally opened up the Discovery version of the Enterprise I picked up late last year. She's a fine looking ship. Let's hope season 2 won't be such a letdown (though I'm not counting on it). The hand is the Discovery redesign of the giant hand from "Who Mourns for Adonais?" -
Bandai is also giving us HMR and Delta releases. The rest of their factories are for more profitable franchises. Wish we really could go back to the good old Yamato days, with their numerous releases (and prices).

He reminds me of this:

With multiple accounts too. That's one sad little troll. With regards to actually opening up Bandai valks... It's a gigantic pain. Bandai loves to add glue to their screws because I guess just in case the screw fails? "Screw 'n Glue" should be Bandai's new slogan.

Whoa whoa didn't mean to make you think I was annoyed or offended or anything. I should be apologizing to you if I did! Everyone has preferences and that's cool. In fact, I think mine ended up darker I would have liked, because the satin topcoat turned the dark grey slightly darker, and looks almost black in photos. If I'm annoyed at anything, it's that. For some reason, I find Bandai valks way more tedious and less enjoyable to work on than Yamato.
-
Think you're conflating panel lining with weathering. One is just making the lines stand out more, the other is meant to give it the used appearance you're speaking of. For the DX I didn't want to spend a lot of time drawing in lines with a pencil (my usual method with Yamatos) so I just gave it a quick once-over using dark grey wash (never use black wash except in small spots) and said good enough. I save the real TLC for my Yammies.

Very nice. Love the measurements and comparisons near the end. As nice as the 1/48 DX is, it really is just a scaled up Yamato 1/60 with a few improvements but also a few steps back. The only significant improvements for me are the change to a sliding arm mechanism instead of the rotating one and extra thigh joint. But there's nothing in this valk that Bandai couldn't have done at 1/60 scale. Probably some licensing shenanigans regarding that. As for the pilot not staying put, it's nothing a touch of blue tack won't solve.
-
To me it only looks too big when stowed underneath in fighter. Makes it look like a WW2 torpedo bomber. That's a stunning number of Hikarus! So who here is going to buy every 1/48 DX should Bandai go full Yamato and release every TV and movie variant?
-
Wow this thread moves so fast! Already two full pages behind! Nah, I'm an amateur just doing what he can to spruce up his valks. Though as Macross has shown us, even amateurs can do good. Thanks guys! Seeing as Bandai "borrowed" a number of things from Yamato, they should have done something like have the side leg armors tab into the rear leg armors, eliminating the need for big unsightly tab holes in the leg. So I never transformed mine from battroid to fighter until earlier today (now yesterday). Wow the tabs for holding the arms in place really suck! They're only somewhat secure once you have everything tabbed and lined up together, and can pop out of place easier than I'd like. It's a big step back from Yamato's 1/60, which was rock solid. The gunpod handle on mine also doesn't lock in the deployed position, so it's constantly retracting back into the gunpod when I'm trying to put it in the battroid hand. I've pulled really hard on it thinking maybe I haven't pulled far enough, but no dice. Is that the chest plate? Were are those two verniers located? Thanks @no3Ljm! I knew you of all people would be dissatisfied if I left the landing gear bare diecast. Best not to treat screencaps from SDFM as 100% canon or gospel, with all of its animation screw-ups. Otherwise we should be complaining about the incorrectly colored knee armor! So who here would buy a VF-1R if they released one? Now the real master makes his appearance! As always, fantastic work on your valk! Looks way better than mine! I used two different shades of wash on mine, but you had to go and upstage me with three! Seriously, it's looking amazing and you're not even done! I'm eager to see how it looks once you've panel shaded it and all. You are going to paint the landing gear? I started painting the landing gear on all my Bandai valks at your suggestion, and it's probably the best piece of advice I've ever gotten. The hips on mine are already stating to get a little loose, though that may just be because I didn't tighten the screws with the strength of the mentally deranged when I reassembled it, as Bandai factories are wont to do.

And of course the most important mode for any valkyrie toy. Hikaru was so happy when the UN government finally allocated some funds for ejection seats.
