As already said, the best option would be to hunt down a broken VF-1A brownie (movie and TV brown look the same as far as I can tell) and swipe the backplate underside from it. Barring that, any white VF-1 backplate painted brown to match would be the other option. The underside of the backplate is not that prominent (at least in fighter mode) so it shouldn't stand out.

Did anyone ever make a Shapeways DX hardpoint for all those extra missiles from the YF-19 set? Be nice to use all those extras on other valks.

I love the rainbow canopies and still wish Arcadia would put them on their PF valks, for the price they're going for. Luckily the old Yamato VE-1 release has a lot of tampo already, so I won't have to do much work to fake a PF w/rainbow canopy.

Price is the same as previous PF releases. But since 25k was the Arcadia shop price *before* tax, you ended up paying more anyway due to taxes and individual shop mark-ups. Hence the 28k to 31k you'd see on web shops. So the question is will this be a web-only release, or general release? Latter would be great since it could be sold for a little less with the usual individual shop "discounts" and without sales tax. Web-shop release means be prepared to pay a mark-up on top of the 25k price tag. I'm glad there's at least one other company willing to provide quality Macross toys, despite some people's inexplicable desire for monopolies.

Welp, time to buy this version then swap the front fuselage with the one from my old VE-1 so it'll have a rainbow canopy too. Probably going to be about 28k on NY, 31k at HLJ, and somewhere in between at AE.

So just a heads up for anyone doing any kind of work with masking tape: the tampo quality Bandai used is pretty shoddy, as I managed to take off some of the UN SPACY text removing masking tape from around the leg after painting the landing gear. I think one or two peeps reported that the text was somewhat messed up on their copy; it probably got rubbed off with the minor handling during packaging. Some printing came off on my first copy when I masked the canopy too. I was able to touch it up with some black paint, so it's not noticeable unless you look reeeeal close and know to look for it. But yeah, poor quality tampo printing on this thing, so be careful when handling or masking it.

I'll probably do that on my second DX 1J as that one will be my 'display only' piece. First one is my 'playing around' piece that I am free to be rough with. I tend not to handle my valks much after putting all that work into them so I don't break or scratch them up too much. Though I've also become enamored with the clean paneled valks from the photobook of Hasegawa Macross models. I love the finish on them.

Grats on the 11B! She's a fine bird. Yeah there was more than one run of the 11B for sure. I have two of them and only one has a rainbow canopy. -
