Primer and lacquer paint. It takes a lot to fully coat the die cast.

He also had to touch up the black paint as there's no way to remove all the white text and not damage some of the black underneath.

I've bought all the HMR Macross releases so far even though I'm not particularly enamored with the VF-1 in this line. I do want more, better VFs down the line and plan to purchase all of them. Also hoping Bandai will determine that there's enough interest from the HMR line to give us DX versions of those releases. DX VF-2SS and VF-4 mmm...

Yeah, that's as good a postulate as any regarding why Bandai doesn't paint them. But I doubt it's a cost issue. Strange since the kind of folks who would spend the kind of money on these things are folks who want lots of detail and accuracy i.e. folks like us. They probably figured they could skip painting the landing gear and we'd buy it anyway. They were right.

Mykombini and Nin-Nin both pulled that crap. Though nothing close to 110,000 yen.

As long as the HMR line remains profitable enough, I think we'll eventually see releases of every VF. I'd buy an HMR VF-25. Though I'd still rather have a new, improved DX version.

Not sure why people feel the need to apologize for wealthy multinational corporations. Yes, it would cost a lot. For you and me. But for Bandai, who's already producing thousands of these units, painting an extra part or two is a drop in the bucket compared to the overall cost of the toy. If saving pennies (yen) is all that mattered, why stop at the landing gear? Let's not paint the navigational lights either. Let's cut out some of that tampo printing too. Who needs the ejection seat warning anyway?

Thanks! So yeah, it's a water-based coat like mentioned, so it isn't going to be more durable than Future. Lacquer is probably more durable, but I've had too many issues with it. I'll stick with the water-based stuff. That's a super easy and cheap thing Bandai could do that would really elevate the look of their valkyries. Maybe in another 35 years?

Tamiya weathering kits. Might start experimenting with some burnt metal effects since the feet are actually metal now.

All the flat white areas make it look really plain while still being really busy with all those add-ons. Paradoxical, I know. Going to need some post-purchase touch ups.

All the previous PF releases were Arcadia web exclusives as well, but some shops did carry them. So there's probably a good chance that NY and AE and maybe even HLJ might carry them, with varying mark-ups of course. Just have to wait and see. I want that Minmay. My only Minmay figure is a CM trading figure.
