  1. That's kind of been a bit of a problem, but we've taken some steps to address that. Starting with episode 14, our reviews focus less on plot and more on discussion and commentary. When we originally recorded our cursed 13th episode, we spent over an hour on just the last 4 eps of 00. During the re-recording, we cut that down significantly. Anyway, on the subject of a Macross World podcast, I would definitely want to hear that and would help promote it. We're going to be covering more Macross in the future on Gundamn aside from Frontier, but there's certainly enough room in the tubes for a Macross-centric podcast.
  2. That's just your opinion, and because of that, it doesn't mean that it's strange or wrong that Gundam 00 is ranked higher in popularity than Frontier. Story aside, as others have mentioned, 00 already finished half its run, while Frontier hasn't even hit double digit episodes yet.
  3. You're making lots of assumptions here. Where has it been stated that BEI outbid BV for 00? Where has it ever been stated that BEI has no interest in UC Gundam? If they didn't would they even waste time shipping out the Zeta Gundam Anime Legends set to stores? I still don't see anything you're saying that makes it clear BV USA would've released more Gundam, other than assumptions that don't seem to have any facts backing them up, unless you can provide some.
  4. Sorry, but I still don't see you making much of an argument here. How would BV have had the "easiest time" licensing anything than BEI? If that were the case, they would've scooped up properties like 00 and Code Geass instead of BEI. Also, BV releasing IGLOO is no sign of them doing any other Gundam, as many of their releases are short OVAs like Gunbuster, Diebuster and Wings of Rean. As for subtitling the R2 box sets, I'm going to be a bit lazy and quote a point I made on Mecha Talk regarding a subtitled release for Macross 7, but I think the same point applies to Gundam:
  5. What makes you think Bandai Visual would've released the remaining Gundam titles? Up to now, they've only touched MS IGLOO, which was in line with a lot of their short OVA releases. BV had never released a series that's 49+ episodes in America. Not only that, but Bandai Entertainment scooped up 00 rather than them, so I don't see why BV would be considered to be in the running for old Gundam.
  6. Isn't that just a poor quality screenshot with excessive brightness on Alto's VF-25? That's how it looks to me.
  7. I don't see how Gundam 00 factors into anything, as it ended before Frontier began its regular broadcast run and won't be back until Frontier ends.
  8. The first season of Code Geass was never in the old timeslot occupied by Gundam 00. Geass was on a late night timeslot, like 1 a.m.
  9. Yeah, that's nice and all, but it doesn't address anything I actually said. The hopes of Macross fans are not the same thing as what we can realistically expect.
  10. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't get why people are so disappointed to keep hearing the news that Macross Frontier and Macross Zero on Blu-ray won't have English subtitles, and I see the same disappointment with Gundam 00. Why would there be English subtitles on something that hasn't even been licensed in America or had a prior US release? Bandai Visual Japan's BD release strategy doesn't make sense - they threw in the English dub and subtitles on their version of Yukikaze, but they omitted them for their releases of Char's Counterattack and F91, which were released in America years ago. If stuff that has already been in America isn't getting English representation on Japanese releases, why do people expect it for stuff that was never released here? Outside of the original release of FLCL on DVD in Japan years ago, I don't recall there being much of a precedent for unlicensed anime having subtitles in R2.
  11. I would call shenanigans on the entire site. According to this bogus site, MAHQ appeals to a male, African-American audience that makes up to $60,000 a year, while Mecha Talk appeals to an older female crowd. Whatever this site is (and I've never heard of it before now), it sounds like completely fabricated garbage.
  12. Huh? What does the site being Japanese have to do with anything? The menu navigation is in English.
  13. There's nothing wrong with my reading comprehension, but thanks for asking. What YOU need to learn how to do is properly answer when someone criticizes your points, not dodge the question and toss out lame 5th grade insults.
  14. No, that's not a fact. That's your opinion, so please don't try to misrepresent it as anything else. If anyone is starting trouble here, it's you. If English-speaking people want to watch it in Japanese with subtitles, there's nothing wrong with that. Just because someone wants to watch a work in its original language doesn't mean they wish they were Japanese.
  15. I'm not surprised that it turned out to be Vajra. But here's my question (which may have been covered in another thread): does the name "Vajra" refer to the insect-ish mecha units, or the faction/alien race?
  16. I guess this kind of stuff is to be expected after the first episode airs of a new series. Honestly though, I, like many others, come here to see meaningful discussion about Macross. Do we really need so much pointless bickering back and forth about what's in the timeline and what isn't? Besides, does it matter either way? There's hardly any information to go on anyway, so why not wait until the regular broadcast begins and reference books are released?
  17. It's been awhile, but I pretty clearly recall seeing "NUNS" before... in Macross II. Was it ever established what it stood there? Although it's an alternate universe, I think it's conceivable that both universes could have UN Spacy replaced by a "New UN Spacy" or whatever.
  18. No, it's not too good to be true. It's the 2001 AnimEigo remastered version, just in a new box. That's the version that I and many others purchased for much more, so it's definitely worth it. They make great Christmas presents at that price, so I suggest scooping it up while it lasts.
  19. I use VLC for taking screenshots because it takes snapshots of almost everything without problems. When I have had issues with the speed of the footage and pausing, I just play the video in slow motion and screencap away.
  20. I haven't heard anything yet about Macross II receiving such a release. However, the main reason I'm responding is because I really wish people would stop using the misnomer "remastered HD" because it spreads false information (and expectations). A standard definition DVD mastered from an HD source is NOT the same thing as a High Definition release. Of course, I think some blame falls to companies for marketing products like these Macross re-releases as "HD remasters," so people need to learn the difference.
  21. I definitely disagree, at least as far as my own purchase goes. I was happy to plunk down $250 at a time when an uncut, Japanese release of Macross seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream. Even though AnimEigo's later retail set was cheaper, I was happy to have it almost a year before that. To this day, that set is the pinnacle of my DVD collection, and I don't regret a single dollar spent on it.
  22. This show was in production for years, and they were already recording dialogue for the timeskip episodes by the time it began airing in April. I doubt his departure had any impact on the story at all.
  23. This reminds me of points raised in a discussion at Mecha Talk about Gundam canon/continuity. I think one point applies here...too many people worry about the absolutes of what is and isn't official. In the case of Gundam, Sunrise has deliberately left the waters murky with each production and each new reference material that contains contradictory information. But in the case of Macross, Studio Nue has exactly laid out what fits and what doesn't. If Kawamori wanted to retcon all or part of Macross II into the timeline, he would have done so in the early 90s. But he hasn't and there's no reason to believe he ever will. Besides, does Macross II have to be official? What difference would it make? It's continuity status doesn't invalidate its existence. I know Macross II isn't very popular around here, but it shouldn't matter if its just relegated to an alternate universe. Those who still want to enjoy it can do so and can speculate what happened in that show's alternate timeline, rather than trying to forcefully shoehorn it into the established timeline. If you have Macross II set on another planet with a ship that's not THE Macross, what's the point of the story? We don't need to have George Lucas-type interference 15 years after the fact, massively changing story elements to fit some other production.
  24. I deliberately passed on Highlander Vengeance because I'm waiting for the uncut DVD, and I wish I'd done the same here. I absolutely love the TV series (except for season 6), and the Internet-leaked workprint of Endgame was pretty decent. This, however, was a train wreck of epic proportions. It's hard to believe that the franchise has sunk this low. I didn't even know this had been demoted to a "Sci Fi Original Movie" until yesterday....and I can see why. To borrow a term from gaming, this movie is the very definition of "shovelware."
  25. I know a lot of people here dislike or downright hate Robotech, but it annoys me to see some assclown make completely inane statements with no basis in fact. Poor man's MechWarrior?? Not very successful? I've never heard of this crappy site, but obviously this person has an ax to grind against mecha, or at least Robotech.
