The Underrated/Overrated SF films thread....
CoryHolmes replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wouldn't quite say "defending" it as much as "it's better than most people give it credit for". Maybe only a teensy bit, but still a bit. It doesn't quite have the subversive qualities of the first one, but the Cyberpunk tones shine through and through. -
We all do. *shrug* It's a ticky box in the user settings that most people don't bother un-ticking

I really enjoyed Last Samurai. Good action scenes, great music, gorgeous scenery. Even Tom Cruise couldn't quite bring it down in my book. That being said, the movie that most captured my imagination is one that I only saw a few years back, on late-night TV while at my parents' house for Christmas: The Samurai trilogy. Samurai I, II, and III were fabulous stories and quite an eye-opener for me, an 80s kid who refused to believe that cinema existed before Star Wars I learned my lesson in that late-night movie trawl that I just couldn't change the channel on. I even sat through the commercials because I didn't want to miss the next scene when it came on.

That's exactly my issues with BSG. Every where I turn on the interwebz is Gods-this and frak-that. I have a litany of issues, plot-holes, tropes, and face-palm moments that prevented me from enjoying anything after mid-Season 1. However, I just usually restrain myself to and . Still is annoying, though Firefly was a great show that had some pacing issues, nothing major, but was cancelled long before it had a chance to produce any real turds of episodes and jump any space-sharks. Perhaps we should be happy with that as a consolation prize, yes? Also: Guyver. Animes, movies, and the manga. So totally underrated. ... I'll get my coat... -

I'm just the opposite. I despised it on my first viewing, but became more forgiving upon letting it fester for a while and then coming back for the blu-ray release. Much easier on the GI tract the second time around -
That counts as a "fourthed". And you're correct in your assessment of his skills. There are times when I think he and Captain America should team up for a sculping/moulding/assembling/painting vidoc.

They had MY money with the stinger from the first teaser: *Iron Army drops in, Iron Man and War Machine back-to-back* CLUNK! CLUNK! *helmets drop into place* *cue awesomeness* -
Again, as others have said, the VF-1 is such a cookie-cutter design between the various models (just a head and paint swap, really) that it would be utter stupidity for Hasagawa to not pump out each of them. When it comes to injection moulding, the Law of Increasing Returns comes into play: the more you make, the more each kit is worth to you.

My knowledge of anime is quite outdated, but what about Detonator Orgun? Or Project A-ko? That always brings happy smilie memories to mind.

Really? 'Cuz that looks like Prince of Persia to me... On the other hand, Nightmare on Elm Street is looking really enjoyable

Jaw, meet Floor. Floor, jaw. I haven't been this awed by a fan-project since Captain America's tutiorals or the FansProject Ultra Magnus conversion. Very, very awesome work.

I realize I'm going to sound like every sterotypical gamer when I ask this, but how much nudity is in the North American version? I know that Indigo Prophecy was a nerfed-down form of Fareinheight and I wonder how much was chopped out of Heavy Rain for the NA market.

Indiana Jones V - in development
CoryHolmes replied to Vermillion21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I always attributed that to the fact that the guy drank from the Cup of Christ. That same cup that kept a Crusader alive for yonkers of hundreds of years. All in all, I enjoyed Indy 4, sillyness and all. It kept me entertained while watching it, which is more than I can say for other films.- 52 replies

Honestly, I was quite disapointed with this release. The only one of the shorts that I really enjoyed was Babysitter, followed closely by Prototype, but that's it. I didn't really enjoy any of the others, and the recasting of Chief and Cortana really stood out to me. It would be like re-casting Luke Skywalker for a new Star Wars movie...
