The computer and electronics super geek thread
CoryHolmes replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Holy crap is this thing ever *small*! But I'm having trouble adding video files already existing on my PC's harddrive to the iPad. Any hints as to how I can sync the files from my PC to my iPad? EDIT: Okay, I figured out how to sync file onto my iPad but what video formats does it support? -

What's the value of an iPad vs a standard netbook? Other than cost, that is -
Arise, Rodimus Prime. Still gives me chills.

That's a tad unfair. Consider modern-day kenjitsu or fencing masters. They have just as much training as their historical counterparts and are just as desersving of the title of "master", but who would seriously win in a fight? A modern-day practicioner or someone who actually used those skills on the field of battle? Same thing here: the Old Republic Jedi used those fighting skills constantly in life-or-death situations and were absolute masters of lightsaber combat; modern Jedi have no such need and skill with the blade had stagnated. And yet at the same time, modern Jedi were much more practiced with negotiation and "keepers of the peace, not soldiers". But the point still stands. By the PT era, the Jedi had become so stagnant and unbending that it led to their undoing. ... I'm a fanboy, aren't I? *sobs* ps: watching that Trooper kick ass was awesome. It's nice to see that a regular human can engage a force-user and survive (though with much difficulty and not for very long).

I'm not thrilled either, but I'm going to buy it anyway. Not everyone can run a Crysis-level machine and this'll spread out those operating specs a bit. Is it best it could possibly be? Nah, but I don't play Bioware games for graphics. Indeed. This is one of the major overaching themes in all the Star Wars movies: that the current state is the tail end, the downward spiral, the end of the line. People throw about the term "used future" to describe the Original Trilogy, but most people don't realize that even the PT is stagnant and barely hanging on. Gah! That trailer has brough out the fanboy in me! Is this a bad thing? Also, that trailer proved that Jedi and Sith are NOT gods, as some in the fandom insist. They're normal, every day human (mostly) beings that can and do fall. And even a man in armour can take one on and prevail.

[sWNerd hat] It's called Energy Absorbtion, and it's fundamentally the same power that Lord Vader used to block Han Solo's blaster shot, as well as the ability Master Yoda used against Count Dooku, when he sucked up Dooku's lightning. Using it to absorb the energy from a lightsaber would be many, many times more difficult but it has been done in the EU (Corran Horn did it in I, Jedi). And, well... it looks cool, don't it? Who plays Briggs in this short? He looks familiar but I can't place the face.

One of the things I enjoy the best about this show is seeing all the new tech goodies, and not in the usual sense. In SG-1 and SGA, it became all about Asgard Beams and transporters and huge honkin' space guns. In this show, I love seeing the beta version of the Chair interface, the prototype stargates, the Kinos. That stuff is nifty cool.

Yeah, that kinda cools my interest in getting these toys. I mean, they look awesome 'n all, but no way in hell am I going to go to all that effort for them. The only other TF toy that remotely interests me is the Rodimus Prime add-on set FP is also producing, but I'm a bit turned off by the fact that the vast majority of the winnebago goes into a 'battle station' and not onto Prime himself.

Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone

That's just- I mean- I ca- can't for the lif... *brain breaks* -
So I'd have to get a seperate Bruticus figure from another toyline to complete the set? Which line would that be?
-
So which parts is FansProject actually making? Is it just Blast-Off and Swindle or are they doing the whole figure as well?

All Things Video Games Thread: II

I need someone to talk me out of joining EVEOnline. It looks like a fabulous amount of fun, with Chronic Backstabbing Disorder and all that. But I want to wait for TOR, which isn't due until next fall at the earliest. Help me, Macrossworld; you're my only hope! -
My favourite part was how all the trailers and spoilers told us what was going to happen to Greer, yet none of them made a hint of what happened to everybody else Nice little whammy there, methinks.

Technically, 12:01am May 6th *gleefully rubs hands together* -
Neither of which means I have to like the TOR art style. Which I don't, but I'll live with it.
-
I doubt that, actually. From the general tone of the show, I figure there's a 60-70% change the aliens either won't come back, or will come back and swat those hairless monkey insects off their garden world.

Save me. During the week-long spells between SGU episodes, I've found myself rewatching SG-1. While most of the episodes are engh, and some are of meh quality, I found myself being sucked into the Ancient storyline. Y'know, episodes like Solititudes, The Fifth Race, Fallen, etc. I've now just finished The Lost City and I find myself with the undeniable urge to start watching Atlantis now, to see that storyline play out. I don't have time for all these episodes, and yet I can't help myself. Halp...
-
Yes, this is something I'm very interested in finding out. Something I always wanted to see but never got enough of in Atlantis was exploring the city and learning more about what it could do. It seemed that always took place off-screen.

This is wrong on so many levels...

Oh yeah. That part comes through loud and clear I'm onto Season 5 episodes and that attitude is still there, though you have to look for it. Also, I'm struck by how quickly these episodes fly by. In SGU, there's a definite sense of serialization and the knowledge that mysteries take time to unravel (and sometimes never). Here in SG-1, everything is completed before the end of the episode and wrapped up in a nice, neat bow.
