  1. So in a fit of caffiene-fueled insomnia I decided to rewatch some older SG-1 episodes, and the first thing that really struck me about them is the humour, especially from RDAs O'Neill. Then I went back and rewatched Air I, II, and III from SGU and the style change was almost like whiplash. Now I'm beginning to understand why people whined that SGU was too dark and "not funny enough" to be a Stargate show. Not that I mind, really, and I still adore SGU; but now I know where the whiners are coming from.
  2. Not just a vegan, but a teetotallers to boot!
  3. Ain't that the truth? I thought for sure that it was gonna put me to sleep, but amazingly enough I found myself rivited to the screen and desperate to see what happened next. And threaten to kill someone whenever a commercial break came on Much, much better than I expected and a great episode all-around.
  4. Bolded for truth. Rewatching that episode gives me so many arguments I wish TJ had thrown in Camille's face (and the rest of her mutineers). Or Rush, for that matter. Why anyone trusts him is beyond belief, it really is...
  5. *points and laughs* At least you're good enough to admit when you made a mistake. Will FansProject be putting out the other pieces for Bruticus or do these two toys mate with already-existing TF toys?
  6. How did the City always get repaired between episodes? It sustained massive damage during the Siege (still one of the best episodes of the franchise) and yet was magically repaired by the start of the next episode. Any interpersonal arguments between the characters was ignored at episode's close, as was most injuries sustained. I don't disagree that Atlantis did have some story arcs and some character growth (though McKay did take up a disproportionate amount of screentime towards the end), but the series was far more episodic than I prefer. I don't need B5 levels of serialness, but at least some carry-over between episodes would be nice. And I DID enjoy SGA. I staunchly defended it when it was on the air, but I've discovered that I enjoy SGU just that much more. SGA is like... a G1 transformer: nice to remember, but blown away by the new stuff (even though Fort Max still is best). SGU has the right combination of plot, character drama, pew pew pew, humour (yes, it is there!), and serialness for me to really enjoy it. Dr. Jackson would like to have a word with you about that. Eli, too Rush is a special case since he was written, right from the start, to be a deeply Machiavellian personality. And he's fulfilled that role beautifully
  7. This will be my first ever MMO. I'm occasionally tempted by EVE Online, but I'm holding out for this one. I want my first time to be special...
  8. QFT. I can think of several other shows that it beats into the ground, but won't mention them for fear of my own safety One thing I like about SGU over SGA is that the ship has a sense of scale to it. It looks like a honkin' big spacecraft, while the Lost City of the Ancients always felt more like the Lost Hamelet of the Ancients. I give extra-special props to the aerobraking manouver used in 1x04.
  9. As I said, I blame Martin Gero for that. It seems that when he was less involved, the show was markedly superior. And we seem to have different interpretations of the latter seasons, but that's okay. One of the good things about the Stargate franchise is the way it brings discussions to the front and centre. Also, you?
  10. I disagree with the bolded bits SGU is what Atlantis should have been. Trapped and cut off from Earth, there should have been political divisions, bickering, and interpersonal clashes. Instead we got The Big Red Reset Button after every episode, and an extra-super generous helping of the Good Guys Are Always Right (also tm). The number of times I wanted SGA to at least acknowledge when their Heros made a mistake are manifold, and yet... nada. Also, I blame Martin Gero for Atlantis having a massive slapstick streak that just got over-the-top as the show went on. All that aside, I really did enjoy watching Atlantis and was sad to see it go. But the more I watch SGU, the more I see the flaws that I'd held against SGA and not voiced them. It was a good show, but retrospect hasn't been kind to it.
  11. The problem being the "fun and adventure" of yonder has long since gone stale. Besides, that's what DVDs are for
  12. That's the part of the prequels that I love the most. Up until they came out, everyone in the fandom had elevated the Jedi to near-godlike status, and treating them as perfection incarnate. Then the PT came out and proved that the Jedi are just as fallable as everyone else, especially to things like pride, certainty, and self-delusion in their own position. After 1000 years of peace and prosperity, they'd become locked in an Ivory Tower and unable to think outside of the tiny little box they'd locked themselves into. Anyone who tried to buck the trend, like Qui-Gon, was pushed, rebuked, and pressured to fall in line with the status quo. And yes, they were stupid jerks. Not only did they have tremendous power due to The Force, they also wielded considerable political and law enforcement power and a total lack of transparency or accountabily. Ep II pointed out that a pair of Jedi can walk into a nightclub, start a fight, and effectivly shut down any question as to their motives or activities. "Jedi business, go back to your drinks." There didn't appear to be any civilian oversight of the Jedi Order itself, and yet civilian taxes went to fund them completely; if nothing else, that alone would cause resentment. ... ... ... ... and I've just proven that I think about this waaay too much
  13. Those FansProject people are jaw-droppingly amazing. I first heard of them with their City Commander upgrade for Ultra Magnus and came thiiiis close to getting back into TF toys just for that upgrade alone. Then I found out they're planning on doing a Rodimus Prime upgrade and my jaw started loosening again. Also, BlastOff looks awesome, regardless of the colour scheme.
  14. I really like Colonel Young. I like how he has real flaws, not the cardboard Mary/Marty Stu's of the previous shows. SGU is a welcome breath of fresh air into a franchise that badly needed it.
  15. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Battlecry. Now that is a guilty pleasure
  16. Too Human for me. I love the plot, characters, and background setting. The gameplay, on the other hand...
  17. That's my problem. It had an impressive idea, outstanding sets, and decent enough effects to do the job. It also had questionable acting, narm-tastic dialog, poor pacing, and iffy direction. As for Over/Under-ratedness, I 'unno. Think I'm gonna sit on the fence and call it Ovderrated
  18. At the risk of bringing more attention to myself and risk being branded with "questionable" taste (), where does Waterworld fit in with the MW crowd?
  19. *a-HEM!* Do you have me on ignore or something? This is like the second time I've mentioned Areaseven, and then you've come in and said, "How come no one's mentioned 'The Story of Ricky' yet?"
  20. John Tuturro is a good squishy to have in the film. Much more amusing than Wheelie. But every squishy they cast in this film is one less hope I have of seeing the Headmasters this time around...
  21. Areaseven did, up above. The only who did, though.
  22. I wouldn't quite say "defending" it as much as "it's better than most people give it credit for". Maybe only a teensy bit, but still a bit. It doesn't quite have the subversive qualities of the first one, but the Cyberpunk tones shine through and through.
  23. We all do. *shrug* It's a ticky box in the user settings that most people don't bother un-ticking
