  1. GI Joe worked as a film for the simple reason that it was utterly shameless and unpretensious about what it is: an 80s cartoon brought to life. Could it have been better or different? Easily. But it wore it's "I'm based on a cartoon!" banner quite proudly.
  2. It could also just be a really neat pun. Also, this came from a pen'n'paper forum, so maybe it has to do with that instead of anything more sinister or snarky.
  3. This came up in another forum, but is very applicable here:
  4. I agree. His loyalty mission brought some very interesting topics to mind and has given me many quotes to keep repeating to myself during long work hours Can anyone suggest some good Paragon side-missions? I've really not done that much exploring and all the side missions I've done are in direct relation to squadmate's loyalty missions. The only one that I've done that wasn't involving the plot or squad in any way was a sinking ship falling into a planet. Anyone have any others I can do to up my paragon score?
  5. For all you people that made a New Game Plus option in ME1 (where you did the game over again with the same character to up the level) which of the options did ME2 use when you imported into the game? I made some choices in this game that I'm going to go back and change for when ME3 comes out and I want to know if I can New Game Plus my current character and do the changes that way.
  6. If spoiler #2 is true, I'm gonna be -like. So much left to do!
  7. I'm one of the most calm, collected, and unflappable people you'll ever know. If the end of the world happens, I'll be the first say, "Hey, that's cool." That being said, I just hit pause on the game so I could come here and say this: Omigod omigod omigod omigod!!!!!!! *flaps arms* I flap now, it made me flap! Of all the twists we've been talking about here, this is the biggest, twistest one of the bunch! Everone stop what you're doing and play the game! (FYI: I'm at 32hrs, 15mins).
  8. Bingo And I have to say that the first game and the novels did a good job of setting Cerberus up as Evil Incarnate.
  9. *raises hand* When I learned that the new team would largely be new members, and the only hold-overs from my previous team were members that I didn't use at all, I was... unhappy... to say the least. I put a lot of time and effort getting to know and care for my core team (Ashley and Wrex, FYI) and was certain that the new ones just wouldn't measure up. Then I started talking with Jacob and Miranda and they caught my attention. Jack is... she has her issues and I find myself wanting to peel them back and help patch her up. Grunt is just as hysterical as Wrex but for different reasons (anyone else get his air quotes yet? ). As for romance, I think Jack is making eyes in my general direction, but I don't think I'm interested. Staying faithful to Ashley for now, but that Miranda is one fine-looking woman and very interesting too boot...
  10. How can you people even call yourself a product of the 80s without Super Mario Bros.? It has no plot to speak of, very basic controls, idiocty and plot contrivances are rampant... and it's still the single greatest videogame of all time. And (making a broad guess as to the average MWers age) who can't define his/her childhood by that very simple tune: Dooh dooh duh dooh dooh DUMH!
  11. While I have despised every film Tarintino has written and/or directed, I will agree that that scene (the only one of that film that I've seen) really is good. As said, one of Trovolta's best performances ever.
  12. I'm with all of you, that opening cinematic was just awesome. Not quite as "omigod!" as in ME1, but still very very cool. And I have to give kudos to the BioWare team for keeping that little plot twist under wraps through the whole development cycle. Yes, that plot twist. You know the one I'm talking about. I also agree that this game is definitly the "dark second chapter" of the trilogy. I'm trying to be paragon when I can, but sometimes events just demand a renegade answer... ps: the reason I rate the ME1 opening is that I knew I was walking into a game totally unlike any other that had come before. ME2 is, by definition, a sequel to that and didn't quite have the pants-wetting anticipation going. Then I gave my first "HOLY @$%#!" to my TV and all was good again
  13. Sorry to hear that, dude. That's terrible. My 360 is still holding up mostly well, the only issue is that the tray doesn't like to close. Push close, it'll spit it right back out again. Repeat a dozen or so times before it'll read the disc in question. But overall, not bad for a 360, given the model's reputation...
  14. I just made it through Harvest and I have but this to say on the matter: *huff* *puff* Okay, I think I'm done. Has anyone had to use the second disc yet? I don't know if it's good or bad that I haven't.
  15. That's a loaded question, given whom you're asking
  16. That's what I wanna know as more people get into the game and finish up: how do romances from ME1 affect ME2?
  17. Without spoiling anything, Cam Clarke returns to voice the Codex entries again. I love that in-game encyclopedia, it brings so much life to the game world.
  18. I'm trying so very, very hard to be a Paragon on this playthrough but it's not easy. When this game was billed as "the dark second chapter" they wern't kidding!
  19. You could never film all of Dune in one go. It would have to be broken up into seperate films. The Sci-Fi miniseries had the right idea of taking the time needed to follow many of the incatracies of the book as possible, and even that had its problems.
  20. Blasphemy! Kill the unbeliever and hang his skin up as a warning to all others! *points dramatically* I'm only about five or six hours into the game and already the HSQ has gone up a few notches. A few moments of Fridge Logic and -type moments, but nothing I can't roll with so far. Plus Bioware has continued its long tradition of making the NPCs into real people and already I want to get to know more of them. I imagine that most of our confusion and comments stem from the fact that we've had the game for less than 24 hours and haven't quite gotten used to the new changes put in.
  21. Yeah, AvP2 really did the concept a decent way, if not giving it enough justice to call it "good". I couldn't believe when the first was rated PG-13, and that's when I knew it would suck. The plot, if you can call it as such, really screwed over the source material for both franchises. But AvP1 did have one of the better scenes: when the mercs first track their way through the Antarctic station, they come into a room where a body is still being in the middle of being hoisted up. That was cool So was the inital confrontation in the three-way firefight. Personally, I'm waiting for a movie that uses the Colonial Marines and comes with the tagline used for the first game: "The three deadliest species have finally met their match. Each other."
  22. So who here is having trouble with the new scanner interface for the Galaxy Map? Scanning planets is now, to me, a tedious pace of yawn, snort, and lip-smacking while I wear out my fingers from holding LT so much...
  23. Halo 3 was great in that the first two games established Cortana as such a positive and entertaining character that the mission to rescue her in Halo 3 took on a personal importance. Listening to the Gravemind torture her in the epinomyous level just made me hate it that much more, and gave such a vindictive satisfaction when I nuked it from orbit. Had to be sure, doncha know.
  24. You mean I'm not alone?
  25. The solution to that is obvious. Stop playing Rock Band
