1. If you get a chance, check out the TV Champion episode where they do an otaku contest. Hysterical stuff. Also the Densha Otoko Trivia Seed is pretty good too.
2. Tactical minis games (D&D, Warhammer, Axis & Allies, etc.) are the big thing right now. In fact, if they did a Robotech minis game, I'd consider buying into it, depending on how good the sculpts were. 344205 The variable dynamics of a Valkyrie would be difficult to replicate in a tac-mini game, you would potentially need 3 different sliders/dials, or otherwise indicate with modifiers. It seems cool at first (it works well enough for Mechwarrior: Dark Ages), but it would be difficult also because of the high speed at which most Macross combat takes place... especially when you consider that most combat was "one shot, one kill" sort of things.(there were exceptions, but those were reserved for story characters). Wouldn't make for a very interesting game unless several liberties were taken (ALA the Palladium roleplaying game) 344218 If it were me, I'd go for a capitol ship scale set-up. Do the valks as squadrons instead of as individuals.

4. I like it. I think the nose could be sculpted a bit more and the arms are kinda odd. Have you thought of using the rounded A-wing cockpit cover instead of the X-wing one? Here's another valk someone just posted on Brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=153337
5. It's because the super robot show is no longer a viable genre. Kids these days want shounen fighting, so the super robot shows that do get made are for adults who grew up with them.
6. Live action already came out in Japan. Not sure if or when there's supposed to be a US release. As to Yokoyama's influence, it's huge as Radd says (though he was technically in manga, not anime). Not only did he create the giant robot genre, but he also invented the magical girl genre. His titles include God Mars and Babel III as well as famous manga versions of Outlaws of the Marsh and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
7. Oh, and the Leonard Nimoy narration is just awesome. "Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep."
8. Loving the game. It fixed a lot of my beefs with III. I have problems runnning it as well though, and I meet or exceed all the recommended requirements (Athlon 2800, 512 RAM, Radeon 9600). It's not too bad as long as I keep the cache cleared, turn off the videos, and don't play a huge map.
9. You really can't compare movies and OVAs to TV series though. At least not until very recently.
10. 'Cause Kong wasn't a real gorilla. If you make him one, it takes away from his human-ness and his monster-ness, IMO.
11. The trailer looked really good. My only beef is that they made Kong look like a real gorilla, but it's something I can live with. I'm curious on what they're going to fill three hours with. As for re-makes, they can be good. IIRC, the Bogart version of the Maltese Falcon was actually the third one to be made.
12. Is it the typical CPM VHS transfer that they did for their older titles?
13. "Out of the Blue" is my favorite album. Excepting "The Whale," there's not a bad track on it. I do find the earlier comment about sounding like George Harrison to be kind of amusing considering how much Jeff Lynne was influenced by the Beatles. Also, if anyone gets a chance, they should check out some of the other Daicon shorts, like The Return of Ultraman.

15. I used to have a really high quality video file of it, but I can't find it. It's a lot of fun to watch frame by frame. They threw a lot of stuff in there that you miss at full speed. Honestly, if you were to do a historical perspective of anime, the 80's would probably be in the silver age. I'd probably place the golden age in the late sixties through the mid to late seventies (I'm not sure if I'd choose Yamato or Gundam as the switching point). Yes, I realize that people are using "golden age" to mean "when my favorite stuff was made," but it'd still be an interesting study.
16. The LD regularly goes for more than a grand when it shows up on Yahoo auctions .jp. It's one of my holy grails for my collection.
17. Just watched it. For a low budget spoof, it's actually pretty good. Still weird as heck though.
18. Just watched the trailer. WTF?
19. Are you sure Oshii was part of Headgear? i was under the impression he didnt have anything to do with the original creation of Patlabor... 337195 He directed the original OVA series.
20. Patlabor and Urusei Yatsura are the two that first come to mind. 332339 He was one of the original creators of Patlabor. UY you might have a point. As much as I love Beautiful Dreamer, it is out of character for the series.
21. Central is ran by a perfectionist, so they may not be the fastest, but you're going to get some high quality subs. My only problem with them is that they're using LD source instead of the remastered DVDs.
22. You know, the purely professional character is a cool archetype, and the operative in the film really pulls it off, but having a character behave like a real human being is much better, especially for protagonists. See, in the real world, people have these things called emotions and they sometimes over power our better judgement. I forgot about the wedding, yes, but I'm still failing to see what stereotype you're bitching about here? I'm not aware that "Jews are all neo-anarchists who believe in freedom of information" is a commonly held belief. I'm not, but thanks for asking, a-hole. If the plot elements (such as they are for the situation in Serenity) make that a likely possibility, then no I don't have a problem with it. As I said, I prefer to be treated as an intelligent viewer, and not have my hand held by the director all the way through.
23. Zoe (the wife of the guy who gets killed, Wash) does lose control for a moment. Yes, she's an ex-soldier (she served under Mal in the war), but she's human too. Humans have been known to lose composure due to grief. As for River not kicking ass earlier, you will notice that she'd not exactly been sane or entirely lucid up 'til then. He's Jewish? I didn't get that at all. Even if he is, it's not the first time the setting has used straight-up Earth ethnic groups/cultures (in the TV series we had a cockney brit and US southerners, f'rex). I'm not sure of your point, though. Are you accusing the film of being anti-semetic? Finally a movie that treats its audience as intelligent viewers and doesn't feel it has to telegraph every freaking plot point. Just because Hollywood has completely forgotten the value of surprise doesn't mean we have to. Bringing it up earlier would have ruined that scene because we would have all seen it coming. No thanks.
