1. http://news.com.com/Hackings+a+snap+in+Leg...html?tag=st.num That is too cool. I love LEGO.
2. Umm... you know some of us read these boards from work. I realize the pictures could have been a lot worse, but still not exactly something I want coming up on my screen there.
3. But that's just it; it wasn't an attempt to cram the TV series into a movie. It's a compltely different story just re-using the characters and sets from the TV series. As a stand alone work, it's pretty good. Flawed, definitely, but still good.
4. I imagine they did it for their female audience. Efiminate-looking characters are popular with them.
5. I'll admit to nostalgia if you admit that new anime is qualitatively different than the old stuff. I don't mean better or worse, just different in a distinct way. 328025 Sure styles have changed. Just like styles changed from the 70's to the 80's, and the 80's to the 90's. Life goes on, you know. I almost might have agreed with you. I don't like most anime (sturgeon's law and all, which applies to new and old stuff alike), but I don't begrudge people who like stuff I don't. The fact that you chose to pre-emptively insult everyone who disagrees with you does not validate your opinion. It just shows that you're an a-hole and a moron.
6. Just the codecs for it (search for "matroska"). I got bored as hell with the game and never bothered to finish it. The movie was fun for the the fight scenes, but I was completely lost story-wise. A really bad move on the creator's part in not making the film more accessable to a wider audience.
7. Gee. I wish I could be cool like you.
8. Websters: a. A political order whose head of state is not a monarch and in modern times is usually a president. b. A nation that has such a political order. It's also the definition my poli sci professor used back when I was studying this stuff. It's why countries like USSR and China could/can legitimately call themselves republics, though at times both have been dictatorships. Actually, the English word is "timocracy," but I agree you can make a good argument that it fits the government in SST. Really though, it's an archaic term and not used much outside Greek philosophy.
9. IIRC, J. Michael Strazynski (the guy who created Babylon 5) was one of the writers for Captain Power.
10. And who says that capitalism and fascism are incompatible? 326415 Because in a fascist system, the economy is run by the state. Fascism as a political ideology has a specific meaning. Unless you were just using the word as a perjorative for "government I don't like," which sadly is all too common these days.
11. Actually, a republic is simply any form of government that isn't a monarchy. But you are correct that the system of government in Starship Troopers is not fascist (and even if it was, that doesn't make Heinlein himself a fascist for writing it). The government in question is a democracy with a limited franchise. Economically, it is a free market/capitalist system.
12. I was underwhelmed by it. Gainax needs to lay off the spoof stuff for a while I think.
13. That thing has been out since 81? Are you sure? I got my set of three when they "first came out" in 2002. I'm pretty sure they were not available before that... 325545 Well, one of these is featured in the Daicon III film, which came out in '81, so that's where I pulled the date from.
14. What did Nue design the toy for? I know it's been around since at least '81.
15. Thanks. Now I agree that it doesn't look right. Yeesh. Too much for me.
16. Cuz, she's one BAD MAMA JAMMA!!! 324752 Yeah, but she doesn't like revolvers. One of the more memorable scenes in the manga is her criticizing Togusa for carrying one. Since we can't see the eyes, I'm trying to figure out where the "too realistic" comments are coming from. Really, it reminds me a lot of the cgi'd opening to SAC (I've always said that that opening makes her look like a barbie doll). Hope they do a Batou figure.
17. Looks cool, but anyone else find it ironic that they gave her a revolver?
18. Manga got licensed by Viz and the anime is 78 episodes. Also, apparently there is a live action movie in the works from New Line Cinema. I've enjoyed what I've seen of the anime, but I haven't had the time to follow it much. It's on my list to watch though.
19. And another session has been added (see my post above for a link).
20. Excellent work. That looks really nice.
21. Hmm....so they were supposed to have 5 mins worth of credits to list all the animators? 323529 You just speed up the crawl, like they do with most TV credits these days. Yeah, they're only there for a fraction of a second, but at least they're being acknowledged.
22. Eh. The whole premise of the first one was that the alien monsters were basically giant antibodies. Humanity is nothing more than an infection and once we started spreading from our little "cell" the galaxy's immune system kicked in.
23. Another session's been posted: http://www.session416.com/mirrors
24. They're probably a little bigger than you think because they usually come disasembled.
25. We must have different definitions of "obscure," but I agree they're priced out of my range.
