Macross variable fighter/mecha pose thread
VFTF1 replied to Wicked Ace's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Personally, I prefer proportional. Big and Huge are great, but only if the rest of the girl is in proportion, otherwise it's unattractive. I think what turned me off to Poco initially was her outfit. There was just too much going on there for me to appreciate her. I prefer simpler outfits - like Yoko, or conservative outfits to "Super Sexed Up" outfits which seem to always fail to be sexy... Um - and..Guld looks happy. I also like the notion of him having his own Harem Pete -
Hope that doesn't apply to Henkei...although in the final analysis I guess decomposing chrome on weapons is better than decomposing chrome on figures To focus a bit more on Transmetals for a moment... What was the deal with those? I remember when they came out - I was a bit dissapointed, honestly, to loose the realistic animal modes - equally as dissapointed as when the cartoon and comics started to introduce lines where the majority of vehicles were "futuristic." I don't mind a few such vehicles (Kup, Hotrod and Blurr - Springer...fine)... but entire lines... bleh. It's just not interesting for me to have Transformers which can't conceal themselves (because if you're a mechanical beast or a cybertronian airplane then - well - you've not really disguised yourself, have you?)... Anyways - despite my misgivings, transmetals were somewhat cool. I liked Primal's flying skate board, and Megatron's VTOL was a nice touch. They were generally well produced and somewhat interesting... What did everyone else think of Transmetals? In any event - they don't seem to be major collectibles these days. I know they aren't on my "priority" list. Not as much as vanilla beasts as well as BW II and Neo (also mainly vanilla beasts). Pete

Is that what he said? My subs translations say "But she keeps them under wraps" .... Pete -
What he said. Spot on. I agree with the "screw that" sentiment. Not because I think you can eat your figures, but because I think if you sell your stuff in panic just to pay the rent it will be pointless. If you can't afford your rent then making payments by selling off your non-liquid assets at a time when liquid assets are getting more and more worthless is kind of like fighting a painful broken bone by injecting more and more morphine into your body instead of going to a doctor. In my view, money is worthless at this point. Fluctutions in exchange rates are swinging wildly, as are prices - particularly for goods like oil. Notice that now oil is below 35 USD and countries which export are screaming "we're bankrupt!" when only a few months ago, oil was at 175 USD and these same countries were projecting budget surpluses and huge profits fo the foreseeable future. So - under such conditions: any projections based on numerical data are WORTHLESS because the data is not stable, it is and will change RADICALLY in the foreseeable future and it's impossible to know whether a business is doing well or poorly. Non-liquid assets are falling in value in terms of their exchange value - true - but if you have your own house you at least are not homeless. Sure, it's worthless, but it's better than money anyways, because you can't live in money. If you have a big toy collection that you managed to accumulate before the economy went to hell, then at least you have something that will give you joy even if you can't add as many toys to it as you once could. Sell it off for money to cover bills and all that will happen is that you will forestall the inevitable when you have nothing left to sell and the bills keep coming. I guess in a sense this scenario is inevitable if your are literally unemployed and facing eviction - although even then you should be looking for cheaper housing instead of pawning your toys for worthless cash IMO, or looking for any kind of job or friends to move in with. Like if people car pool to save on gas - then they can "house pool" - move in with friends - get five or six guys together and rent an apartment. It'll be tight, but it'll be cheap too. Anything is better than selling of that collection because you WILL BE SORRY. You will never accumulate such a fine collection again and you will never get back what you put into it. That's my opinion at least. Pete

Oh no! I did it again! I'm so embarassed Pete

This is the fate that awaits those who treat lightly the polite requests of Gubaba not to copy and distribute the work over the internet... Pete

Pocco looks good. I'm upset I missed out on her Cocona's armor looks..incomplete... to say the least As for the Toynami product: HA HA! He deserved it Pete -
Thanks. I guess since I'm self employed I never would have guessed that it was "Not Safe For Work"... In my "Office," I have that naked sheryl in the apron making Pine salad for naked Alto that was in the Character Art Appreciation Thread on my laptop as the wallpaper. My girlfriend is pretty cool about it too whenever we meet. Oh well Now I know, and KIHTB ! Pete

What's wrong with my Yamato, Bandai, etc.

I have the same problem with the right leg panel of my 1/48 GBP-1 VF-1J TV Hikaru armor - but it is fixable - that is to say, I managed to get it to stop popping off. You just have to accept that it will not close completely. Maybe one day I'll have a look see at why there is a minor gap - but there it is... it's not that big a deal. As for the 1/48 shoulder being cracked ....to my mind this is the first time in several years that anyone has reported that major a problem with a 1/48. I have only four 1/48s but all of them are solid, perfect and QC free. Pete -
Ok, I've been looking for some place on the forum to ask this and not have it be off topic - and since it's in the title of this topic, I figure it's as good a place as any: What does NSFW stand for? Nude Sexual Foreplay Women? Not Sure For What? New Song For Willow? Never Stand For Wombats? Nuclear Spasmic Forensic Wikan? Sorry for being such a dunce, but I just figured out what IIRC stood for like, yesterday... but this one I can't break the code for no matter how hard I try... Pete

I'd say if it's in A+ condition with a box then 200 USD tops - 100 bottom - anywhere between the two. Pete

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
VFTF1 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well I don't like Sideswipe. The design makes no sense. Why does he have massive bulky legs hanging off of little tubes/ball joints? - and DOUBLE tube/ball joints at that? Just because it looks alien and kewl? "Looking alien" means having four eyes and the equivalent of four hip bones holding up two legs? Why? And why are the legs bent like that? I understand the "let's make them look alien" and "not anthropomorphic" - but what they've done here is unimaginative, because it's basically "instead of making them look humanoid...we'll model them on bugs and space bunnies (devastator)." I just don't like it. It looks so generic. I can't get any emotion out of that thing. I dunno... I'm pmsing again I guess. At least Peter Cullen is in it... Pete -
About Misa... this gets me to thinking: Graham mentioned that Yamato has all these "surprises" lined up for us, and we usually think "ok - this means many different paint schemes"... However - what if we got SDFM TV accurate Valkyrie ...I think it was a 1A at that point still - for Hikaru - the "Goodbye Mars set" - and we got a Misa in space suit for him to rescue? With two hands that would allow him to grab and hold Misa, and shield her from Mars base explosion? A diorama of Mars Base would also be top notch... I really hope Yamato goes in that direction because just plain old repaints are boring. What really makes things cute and cuddly is the inclusion of the special little figures - and the great great "removable" feature... just a thought. Pete
-
Yeah. On the other hand, unless I'm mistaken, I recall that when people saw the designs for Energon they were like "ooohhh homages! coool!" Just goes to show how much a cartoon can do to imprint a design as bad or good. Pete
-
Sounds wierd. Don't have any of the TMs, but I never really had any TFs crumble or break over time. I had a reissue Grapple's arm snap on me - and he was like a month out of the box - but that's an anamoly- like one out of a million... Pete
-
I would bet that the text is a mistake. I mean - given the attention to detail at Yamato, I really doubt that they made the passenger in an orange flight suit with a big helment (used to "hide" minmey) that Minmey used and that this choice was PURE COINCIDENCE and they then said "uhh...it's Misa!" So - while it's possible, I still would really be scratching my head as to why Yamato would make a perfect replica of Minmey from DYRL and try to push her off as Misa... So my guess is that the text is wrong (wrong in the sense that it's a mistaken identity). I think I prefer the VF-1D to the VT. Of course I'll get it and I like it, but the only thing that would make me go ape over it would be an accurate Misa Hayes in flight suite. Silly, I know, that whether or not I like a hundred + dollar figure is based on the two centimeter goob of plastic puddy that sits in the PASSENGER seat...but...still pete
-
It's Minmey - you can tell from the color of her flight suit. Misa wasn't wearing an orange one - she was just in her regular white flight suit with Kaifun... No Misa love. It's Minmey - AGAIN! only this time with her orange helment on and no cute dress... Pete

I think the Scoop thread is a good idea. I was dissapointed the last few times I went in there and found bitching and moaning instead of any important scoops. I'm also happy this thread now appeared, because I can bitch and moang about the bitching and moaning that took place in the Scoop thread without violating David's request to shut up and stop bitching and moaning. I will check the Scoop thread very often because I am looking for news about new pictures of the Quarter, release dates etc etc. I like the fact that we can bitch and moan in the relevant toy threads, and I don't want the Mods to clamp down on our fun. So having a seperate Scoop thread where there is zero tolerance for bitching and moaning and ONLY room for real news/scoops is a good idea. Two thumbs up. Pete

The format I found it in was the kind of format one would usually find anime in in a country where the anime is unlicensed, unheard of, unavailable, and underground In any event - I think it's important that everybody distinguish between two things here: 1. The fascinating general topic of the philosophy of translation (which was a thread I started in the Anime Topic board and lots of different opinions/debates happened there and it was cool) 2. The unquestionable thanks that all of us owe to those few people who have in any way either translated or worked on bettering existing translations that help make Macross more enjoyable. I highly doubt Gubaba meant you any disrespect, and I am convinced that hundreds - thousands - of people have benefited from your work on DYRL and you really deserve credit for it. I am saddened when situations arise that annoy, irritate or make people like you feel bad. As for MW having changed - I'm relatively new here, so I guess it's hard for me to understand what you're talking about; but even when the old good things go away, new good things do tend to appear along with the bad so... Don't go away too long or too far I really would be sad to think that someone who contributed the DYRL sub didn't want to hang out with us. Pete
-
Here Hurin - If it helps; I only recently noticed that you were behind the subs on DYRL, which I recently (aka a month ago) managed to watch in a better, larger format than Youtube. Let me put it this way: I could care squat about minor arcane squibble/quibble points regarding translation - the first and only thing to come to my mind when - at the very beginning - the credits of Hurin/Macrossworld.com flashed before the screen was "AWESOME! HURIN DID THIS?! WOW! HE'S SO COOL!" Becuase it was cool that I was able to watch and understand this and be moved by it rather than scratch my head thinking "gee - pretty pictures...wonder what they're saying?" or having to go find "Attack of the Bionoids." So don't feel driven off. People often forget, when critiquing fan translations, that it's not like the translator is paid, and it's not like we are "customers" who somehow are entitled (because we pay) to gripe and complain and get "customer service." Ultimately, a fansub with the scope and magnitude of DYRL is a huge gift to those of us who don't speak japanese, and so please do not feel "driven away" ever. It would be utterly stupid if someone who contributed an entire translation of what is basically the seminal work in the Macross fandom felt slighted or driven away by that fandom. Your work made me happy. Thank you for it. Pete

I'm not denying the beauty of non-jointed figures that are fixed in anime accurate poses. It's just that I dream of having figures one day that have no joints that are visible and still can move while looking like the fix-posed figures in whatever pose you fix them in. It would be technologicall possible to produce something like this. Kaiyodo is on the right track with their Fraulein series which is getting better and better at covering and masking ungainly joints. I hope that in the near future we will have perfect poseable figures with no visible joints that are scaled at 1:1 - then we can forever be rid of wives, girlfriends and the like. Mwaha ha hah hah. Pete

Is there an extra panel that folds out beneath the "arm pit" or did you add something there - becuase your Battroid seems to have this white spot where there shouldn't be one... unless I'm missing something Pete
-
I'll be picky about one other thing: I would really prefer if she were poseable. Although - in this case I guess an exception could be made, since it's not so much "Ranka" as a statue of a painting of Ranka ... But in general the one thing I don't like about figures like these are the fact that they are fixed pose... Thank God for Fraulein Revoltech Pete
