no it doesn't, you don't know why the SDF-1 is being chased by the giant aliens, you don't know why they're trying to get home, you don't know why the Zentradi don't just blast the SDF-1 to oblivion, Hikaru and Roy relationship looks more as the team leader and the wingman instead of the long time friendship so Roy's sacrifice seems meaningless as well as her gf (forgot her name) grief, you don't know why and by who (they don't say who), destroyed earth you get mindf*cked as to why Max suddenly joins Miria and get macronized, one would think treason, no one gives a f*ck about Kakizaki's death, Gloval who?, Breetai decision to join the SDF-1 against bodolza seems irrational, the culture shock thing is not esplained thoroughly now DYRL gave more emphasis on Hikaru and Misa relationship for the sake of the resolution, but you don't get explained why Hikaru and Minmei relationship is so intense and why Misa getting in the way keeping Hikaru is important, and much more, the story of SDFM is too long to cram into 90min now, about all this points I mentioned,you know what's the deal cause we all saw SDFM, but try and show only DYRL to someone who has never seen SDFM and they will go, "that so cool, but I don't get why[insert whatever]?" and you would go "well, in the original show...blah blah" just in case, I'm not dissing DYRL, I love it, but you have to accept it's story flaw, DYRL was made purely for the Macross fan on topic, Frontier is going to be several movies so they can have an easier time with the story management by the way, tornado pack....fugly and unpractical, you'd think that after 50 years of space exploration and technological advances they would make a valk what wouldn't need any kind of add-on

Macross Plus movie and DYRL doesn't make a lot of sense if you only see them without the knowledge of SDFM and the 4 OVA of Plus, think about it

If I remember correctly Minmay left in the Megaroad-01, Flashback 2012 is an artistic interpretation of Minmay decision and feelings about leaving earth to be with her friends (Hikaru & Misa) with her parents staying behind, and as mentioned, it's an representation of the Macross fan nostalgically seeing for the last time the original love triangle leave Flashback was originally the closing credits for DYRL but they ran out of budget, so after the success of DYRL they released the Flashback video so we can all say goodbye to the Hikaru, Misa and Minmay I don't know why people want more about this 3, we got SDFM, DYRL and FB2012, all 3 great stories with memorable and epic endings, unlike 7 with an unresolved triangle and Frontier with an idiot flying instead of picking a girl

this threat looks like an economics class resume I agree, consumer/demand blah blah, but Yamato has always overprice their products, and they are probably pricing their new Macross7 line to cover the big West license, it was mentioned a long time ago that Macross items were expensive cause the license to do them was too high, I don't know if it ever got confirmed anyway, I stopped buying valks after the vf-1s fokker v2, I'm sorry, but I will go there, I would pay 200+ gladly for any Yamato valk if I had 100% assurance that it will not f*ckng break on my hands, so, for me, Yamato faulty achy-breaky-delicate toys are overpriced, economics my ass, do things rights and then your price will be justified, it's our own fault for accepting this bully behavior from Yamato, we keep buying their expensive sh!t expecting it to break, Yamato knows this and they don't give a rats ass about it any product that's design poorly, gets recalled, replaced or given a way to get it properly fixed free or at a minimum rate, except Yamatos of course, because Yamato appears to believe that Macross fans can sh!t plastic, glue and screws to fix their 200+ faulty toys with a stupid grin on our face
