THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
anime52k8 replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
that actually works... really well... like better than the correct version... freaky. the YF-19 reminds me of roy's DYRL? 1S for some reason. -
Robotech and HG License Debates

but alto doesn't have to worry about the steroids making his testicles shrink. -
Sounds about right. I have a clear blue VF-1J, it comes in a standard hikaru 1J box with a couple gold stickers that say colored clear version. You get the standard decals plus a sheet of option decals and a flier showing the 7 different schemes you can make with what I think is a brief description of each aircraft (not sure since I cant read Japanese).

If MacII was exactly the same but had SK's name on it; it would still be an unispired mess and I'd still hate on it. All other macross properties get more respect than II because it doesn't deserve that kind of respect. no matter who's involved it's still a weak rehash of DYRL? with a cast you have no reason to care about and horrible mecha design. New character designers don't cause an uproar because all of them have done good work and produced good looking characters, unlike the mech designers. Whoever designed the Valks of MacII has clearly been studying at the import bodykit school of design aesthetics; i.e. substituting actual aesthetics with a metric ton of superfluous fins and intakes.

Is Anime insulting your intelligence?
anime52k8 replied to Excillon's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Eh, it worked in FMP and Evangelion. I find the execution more than the act itself to be at fault. there have been some show's where it was absolutely moronic, like Code Geass. -

so you're say that because it doesn't get into the politics of the war, it's political propaganda. Great logic there, bucko. And you've also managed to completely miss my point which was that Just because the catalyst of the story is a Japanese city being bombed by American's DOES NOT mean that is what the story is about. the bombing is only included in the narrative because it provides cause for all the subsequent events of the story. It's a MacGuffin used to explain why these two kids are wandering around all alone starving to death and no body seams to give a poo about it. That's it. the Japanese being bombed is not some kind of nefarious attempt by studio Ghibli to promote nationalism and the view that the Japanese were the poor undeserving victims of THE EVIL AMERICANS. It is a mater-of-fact and easily replaceable event that moves the story along. They use the war in the movie because that's what happened in the book, and it's in the book because the author lived through it as a kid. including some ridiculous montage recounting the history of the war in order to make the movie self-deprecating enough to the Japanese that it makes you happy adds absolutely nothing to the story, ruins the narrative by bringing in outside events that have no bearing on the core characters and distracts from the REAL message of the movie by making even more about who's to blame for the war than it ever was in the first place (which it wasn't at all). there's really no point in arguing this any further, as you've clearly missed the point of both my argument and the movie, or are just flat out ignoring both and would rather continue to believe that grave is part of some grand Jap conspiracy to cover up all the bad things they did during WWII. I disagree with you but I really don't feel like getting dragged into a political debate that we're clearly not supposed to have. -
Bandai VF100's Official Thread Ver.2
anime52k8 replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
as odd as it is to say this, I actually kind of like it. Despite the parts forming and the (still) incorrectly positioned hips, I actually like the look of this one more than the DX or even the model version. It looks less clunky compared the DX and more solidly together than the model. If (big if) I do find myself getting an armored VF-25 it will probably be this one. -

It's more disturbing than insulting. But it's porn, tentacle porn, you really can't expect any better. I don't really see how lack of context is making Japan look like the victim at all. The lack of context is really just part of an effort to divorce the story from any outside political elements and make it NOT about who's at fault. It's not about placing blame or defending anything. It's not even about the evils of war, it's about how at their most basic level most people are fundamentally despicable creatures that only care for themselves. The war and the bombings are nothing more then symbols of incomprehensible tragedy. You could substitute any nation in any war or even get rid of the war element entirely and use a natural disaster like an earthquake and it wouldn't change the overal story at all. The only reason the film is set during WWII is because that was Akiyuki Nosaka's personal experience. -
Special forces in the Macross universe

oh, ok. -
Max in his -1S is a yoga master. The CF-1A not so much (it might have helped if I had remembered to close the feet down) .

I'm sorry but... (censored to protect the wet blankets) I'm probably the biggest fan of massive boobs on here but man, how can she walk? Seriously though, little advice on large breasts. First massive boobs work much better in 2D than in 3D. Additionally, if you're going to go with big boobs you've got to balance it out. She's too top heavy, not enough ass for that much boob. I would post pics to illustrate my point, but I fear the B& hammer too much. anyways, decrease the size of boob. she make macro klan look normal.

links work fin for me. both of them are the 1/60 version 2's. the 2 toy's listed are about 90 percent physically identical. with only the head and a couple accessories different between the two as well as color scheme. both are perfect transformation as in no parts swapping (except for the intake covers and fixed pose hands)

sure, they can seek out and explore new worlds... and then blast the crap out of what they find there.

Special forces in the Macross universe

I am confused by this post. -
Eww, it's all dirty... So are they going to do weathered versions of EVERY characters? I wouldn't waist my money and I like my 1S nice and clean better in any case.
-
Little pricey, but still kind of cool. But I'd need to buy a special browny and an extra set of fast packs just to stick the covers on, now that's way to much to spend. But back to the gray VF-1S, has their been any word on if/when it will be coming out? I hope all the whining hasn't convinced yamato not to go through with making this...

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.5
anime52k8 replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I find the worst part to be that while the VF100 version doesn't have a pilot, the level of detail in the cockpit is still better despite the toy being about 1/3 the size. -
that's the really secret to good photography. take as many photo's as you can because you're going to toss out about 95% of them.
-
I have no idea. I hope they never do that though. I think it would get rather lame if all they did was go back and rehash old episodes from the series. also doing a movie version of space seed would almost guarantee a remake of Wrath of khan, and that would be the worst thing ever.
-
I'd also like to nomiate this movie for greatest (read most atrocious) use of stock footage EVER. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnIcLjNCu5U&NR=1

so I turned in my photography final a couple days ago, and I just got around to trying to scan them in, unfortunately I didn't have time to scan these before I mounted them so they were scanned while attached to an 11x14 mounting board. as a result they're a little washed out and blurry. also while organizing these scans, I found this folder of shots from my high school photo class. Here are a couple of the nicer ones.
-
I was going through a folder of pictures I took for a photo class in high school and found these older pics of my 1/48's. just thought I'd share also there's a gundam who's just there because it was in the same folder and it looks good in these pics.

I agree with what mitch said. I personally started out with a Paasche VL. it wasn't good for much besides coating large areas but it was cheap. If you're just starting out and don't know how serious you're going to be about using an airbrush, get something cheap like that to start. if you find you don't like it, you're not out much, and if you find you do, you can just spend more on a better brush latter. Now if you already know that your going to be serious about using an airbush and want to get something good right off the bat, go with Iwata. I have an Iwata eclipse HP-CS and it's a wonderful all around brush. it's good for applying base coats and painting large areas, but can do fine detail work well (much better than the Paasche) Too. I got the Eclipse for about $100 new. for even finer detail (i.e. free handing pencil thin lines) you'll want one of there high performance models. an HP-B goes for about $100-150. what ever you get though, you'll need to get a compressor. you're going to need an oil-free electric compressor with a pressure regulator and moisture trap, also an attached 1 gallon take is preferable. except to pay from $100-150 for a good compressor you want something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Senco-PC1010-Compres...243&sr=8-31
