Apples and oranges, my friend. Star Trek (and all the other series that have to do a reboot) are creatively bankrupt. In the sense that they can't be creative within the confines of what's gone before. Macross, on the other hand, has been continuously re-visioned since the very beginning. Of the top of my head, there are: SDF Macross (TV series, 1982) DYRL? (movie, 1984) SDFM:DYRL (PS/SS game, 1997) MtF (manga, 2009) Not one of them is a restart, reboot or whatever the zeitgeist word de jour is to describe that phenomena. In addition, subsequent productions have continuously re-visioned (or at the very least reinterpreted) events to varying degrees. My general impression of MtF is that the focus is mostly on the (main) characters and the plot proceeds at a breakneck speed. This last part of the Mars story arc is consistent with that. It's a definite WTF moment for everyone (Hikaru, Misa and us readers), but the story barely pauses for it. Which is where things differ from Akira (the phenomena became the initial motivation for Kei to stay close to Kaneda, if memory serves). Nevertheless, the sequence moves the tragedy of Riber/Liber into the sublime, and has palpable pathos. That said, as that the phenomena occurred during the wrap up of the story arc, the manga doesn't pause to address it. So, it might be brought up in a debriefing or discussion later in the story.

Gah. Instead of clearing up the confusion... it... just... makes... it... worse... !... A-ha! So I had seen it somewhere before (never bothered to read it in Macross Ace, if you're wondering). On the one hand, it sucks that it's a reprint. But on the other hand, having 3 Macross titles in NA is exciting.

... and have you, like, actually read the manga? I have, and I can tell you this: the way it's handled is akin to Akira (the manga, not the anime).

Vol. 4, 2012.01 issue out. ... and surprise, surprise, Macross is on the COVER! Macross Ace Plus: Playback in Divas: featuring Sera Nome new feature: Macross history. Point form, but groovy nonetheless. This issue: Birth of the Universe to Macross Zero. Macross Express Goods: mostly clothes (shirts, ties, jacket), with a bit on the VF-11D Thunder Focus. Manga Macross the First (since the cat's out of the bag, I don't feel that spoiler tags are needed, but stop reading if you don't want to get too spoiled): as indicated last issue, this is the final chapter of the Mars.. uhm... chapter of the series. The meeting of Liber not only added a new twist, but also made the situation that much more tragic. Mikimoto-san, in one swoop, has not only made that whole part of Misa's background that much more tragic and current, but has also expanded on the super dimension and the effects of super dimension using engines (last issue stated that due to a strange interaction between the gravity mines and the overloading reactor of the base, what basically amounts to a rift in time has opened). Surprisingly, there's English in this chapter, so I won't say any more on that (only mentioning what isn't stated in the English). On top of all that, we also get a romanization for Liber's first and last names: Liber Fruhling. Alas, next to nothing on Minmei, and the implications are that she's been crushed by falling debris... the manga has definitely gotten my attention, as it's now effectively in new territory. Macross Plus T.A.C. Name On first glance, the artwork appears to have dropped a bit in regards to the Valkyries. But who cares! We get to see Myung's boobies! Oh, the story has deviated somewhat to the OVA & movie. Beyond the truncating of the story, the argument in front of the hospital took place inside or near the burning room... on top of that, they destroyed a Phalanx during testing. Nyan Toro Macross F manga. It's the first chapter of at least two chapters.Haven't been following it elsewhere, so I can't comment if it's new, continuing or a reprint. One thing is clear: MORE Macross manga is pure win. I was initially worried that the Macross manga were being published in the rear quarter of the magazine. But now that we have 3 manga AND two news columns, it's making me excited about Macross continuing to be published.

Following Azrael's sage advice will be a bit tricky in the answer... basically, it boils down to a couple of things: in-universe PMCs are a plot tool to describe the state of the New Unified Government and it's armed forces after what basically amounts to all the emigrant planets, colonies, emigrant ships and so on and so forth gaining independence from the Unified Government. out of universe it's one of the ways the creative people tried to make Macross appear timely and up to date. Key emphasis on try, as Macross F doesn't even bother with an attempt at an accurate portrayal, let alone make some sort of social commentary on the use of PMCs or explore the effects of their use. So, ultimately, why do NUNS suck so bad? The same reason their predecessors do in Macross 7: they aren't the heroes of the story!

Sadly it's only appeared in Macross Ace and has yet to be reprinted. Personally, I'm hoping that once Macross Plus T.A.C. Name finishes in Newtype Ace, 7th Chord will be picked up again...

I see you've overlooked the VA-3 and it's mean looking gun pod: http://www.macrossro...FENSIVE_SYSTEMS Not to mention that the VA-3M has beam guns in the forearms, and that the VA-3 doesn't. The main reason for the VA-3C's 'gun pod' is the harpoon to catch the space whales. Of course, adding a Gatling gun into the barrel of the VA-3C's harpoon pod and relying on it exclusively in combat (despite also having beam guns in the forearms) does support your assertion that it's use as a gun pod in M7D is just a motif. Nevertheless, you do have a very good point here: Though, it does beg the question: where was that gun pod stored? Macross Chronicle #24 Pg 01's Tenjin Hidetaka's painting of the VF-22S adds further confusion: one side of those ventral storage areas looks normal, but the other side has a smoothed over front end - implying that Miria's VF-22S is carrying only one gun pod (reinforcing the assertion that the screen-grab in the OP is just an animation error.) All that said, Macross Chronicle #13 Pg 10 states that the Bifors GE GV-17L Gun Pod is stored in underside panels in fighter mode. So, ultimately it boils down to anime magic...

If memory serves... it's done in "Macross Digital Mission VF-X", "Macross VF-X2", or both.
-
Perhaps the port that the reaction missile is launching from is an animation error? I've always supposed that the internal pallets are in the arms or the outskirts of the rear fuselage, just inside of where the arms go.

You forgot Kuran Kuran, Kulan Kulan, Kuran Kulan, Kulan, Kuran, Kran Kran, Klan Kran, Kran Klan, Kran Krang, Klan Krang, Kran Klang, Kran Krein, Klan Krein, and Kran Klein. Oh, the possibilities! Standard romanizations are: Hepburn: Kuran Kuran Both Nihon-shiki and Kunrei-shiki are: Kuran Kuran (or Kuran'kuran)

There's a table of contents of all the individual sheets published here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=28072 My TOC with links to the articles that other MW and myself have translated in full or in part: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/portal/Chronicles.htm That said, there's really not that much about the flight suits per se. "Variable Fighter Master File VF-25 Messiah" goes into more depth on the "SMS" flight suit's themselves. The only other thing I can add are some scans of the flight suits: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Statistics/Flightsuits/Flightsuits.htm#MF Ignore any statistical text, as it's a best guess, and doesn't incorporate neither MC nor VFMF info [as the page was made before either were published].

Might as well. Add as much Macross content as possible, and give visitors the choice of deciding which things fit in their version/vision of the Macross universe.

Oh, you should add the ARMD seen in M7T, too. Linky w/ piccy: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Statistics/ARMD/ARMDalt.htm#2038

Skyfall, the next James Bond 007 Film
sketchley replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
True. But some of the appealing things about a younger Q are that it's more easy to suspend disbelieve if he has great programming skills and google-fu. Not to mention a young techy character brings something to the franchise that the younger demographic can find something they can relate to in. Though, nowadays, I perceive M performing a maternal, mentoring role to Bond. Which has kind of taken over the mentoring aspect of Q's character... ... so maybe we won't get a lovable uncle Q, but a fun cousin Q.- 251 replies

Some Bond news: Q is returning in the next movie: http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-15889689 Makes me wonder if he'll be portrayed in the Desmond Llewelyn style, or the Alec McCowen version. Some other interesting quotes about "Skyfall": Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-15579556- 251 replies

Agreed. Though, I wish the VF-11D Thunder Focus was at a price point comparable with the Gundam HG kits. ¥4,200 is quite a lot. Especially compared to HG kits that not only sell at ¥1,260, but are also infinitely easier to assemble. Ah well... Macross, at least the model kits segment of it, is no where near the same level as Gundam...

(as it's referred to as a Diamond Force unit, I'm sure it's just the mock-up coloured in Miria-red. Nevertheless, still wishful thinking...)

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
sketchley replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
 This is exactly what I was going to say in response. The problem with the 'remake' of "Akira" is not that it's a remake of "Akira", but the dearth of originality in Hollywood. As someone said somewhere else, it's a cycle that Hollywood goes through every couple of decades. How long will this one last? As long as the 3D boon does... -
Neat! It's the XVF-19-1 from VFMF:VF-19. Cool that the webpage also IDs it as such. Shame that those books aren't part of the official setting. [backstory: prototype designed to test the Y/VF-19's control system, under development at the time.]

My road started sometime in the late '80's or early '90's (Protoculture Addicts #11 [the Robotech fanzine become became a general anime magazine. Big sign or what?]) and the final nail was hammered in April 1995 with Palladium Book's New World Order. Though, Antarctic Press's foray was the fatal blow. Can't say that the loss of interest was entirely due to HG, but the dearth of anything new directly or indirectly from HG to compete with other anime is ultimately, what killed my interest. Didn't the speculator crash happen in the late '90's? Talk about being out of touch with the market if they're still trying to pull that crap in the double oh's...

Correction: New Macross class super long range emigrant vessels. Which is what the Island Cluster class is a derivative of (Battle class (basically the same as in M7) + Island class city ship (basically a City class ship x10).

Official setting information aside, someone has already attempted that for RPGing purposes: http://unsd.macrossroleplay.org/newmacross.html (don't know what system you're planning on using, but the base statistics should be convertible) Collecting Tabanna gas and planning their next move based on SMS input or something like that.
