Found something (and I think the page *may* be by a certain non-English speaking poster on this forum) while looking for something else. VF-4 Siren GERWALK/battroid piccies: http://w.livedoor.jp/harmony-gold_japan/d/%A5%E9%A5%A4%A5%C8%A5%CB%A5%F3%A5%B0#content_11 Has that been posted on this forum before? As for the rest of the kibble on the page... just look at the English in the URL after the domain name... anyhow, besides that, don't trust any of the English on it. The author has romanized the Russian surname Kurakin as the Anglo-Saxon Clerkin...

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Space Wing

Did a bit more (leading up to the VF Genealogy). The title of the fictitious VF-4/3000/5000 book is fun. Now... question: have they revised the formation of General Galaxy with the Alexi Kurakin description? -

Zero friction is meaningless as in both our arguements, initial velocity equals terminal velocity equals impact velocity. You've forgotten that these kinetic penetrators don't have a propulsion unit, and only some of them are equipped with manoeuvring verniers. Even in a situation where a VF could release a kinetic penetrator beyond a Zentraadi vessel sensor detection range, and the target vessel doesn't accelerate to a high enough velocity or perform radical enough vector changes to take it out of the kinetic penetrator's interception cone, there's still the visual/thermal emissions of the VF prior to releasing the kinetic penetrator (flying out ahead, turning around, and accelerating to release speed) that remain detectable to alert (visual) sensor operators. Anyhow, I think we both have valid points, and my main complaint isn't the kinetic penetrators and other "space bombs" per se, it's the history of the books' writers to pull unrealistic armaments crap out of their collective a$$es. The worst offender is the self-propelled mass-driver launcher pod for the VF-19. My gut instinct when I saw the cover of TIAtS:M+ (it's first appearance) was that it was a missile launcher akin to the UUM-7. Macross the Ride has confirmed my gut instinct that it is a missile launcher, not an anime-magic overloaded extremely bloated mass that should rightly break a VF's wing off when loaded in a low-G space hanger. Ever since then, I've been extremely picky about these books "reinterpretations" and "additions". -

I understand if the vectors are in opposite directions, but if the vector is similar and the velocity is the same - wouldn't the VF have to accelerate faster or manuever to a different approach vector? Either way the use of thrusters would be a visual/thermal signature that could be detected thereby reducing or eliminating the stealthiness inherent in using kinetic penetrators? -

I dunno... it just seems like they wanted to fill a page in the book with missiles and were pulling things out of their a$$. E.g.: the description contains mention of non-reaction warhead missiles, but there are none on the page. Instead we get... kinetic penetraters. Remind me how those work in the absence of gravity? [rhetorical question] GU-11D: engine nacelle FAST pack magazine holder makes a lot of sense (like the VF-0). But alas, their newly created VF-1X/P specific FAST packs don't have them. -

Finished the stuff on the missiles and the GU-11D. Though the stuff on tactics makes sense, the reason for the branching of the AMM-1 series into multiple types is baffling to me. Wouldn't it make more sense to continue making one missile for all purposes? It could be argued that there weren't enough resources at the time to do that, but then it begs the question: where did the resources for all the alternative guidance types come from? The gun pod changes makes a little bit more sense to me (any gun pod with a bayonet is awesome in my book). But it still doesn't answer where spare clips are stored... -

Completed the AMM-1 series (this feels like one of the more "fan" sections of the book. Me thinks they could've just left it like in other publications: "AMM-1 series is radar and TV guided, but some models are only radar or only TV guided.) I also don't remember the original AMM-1 being limited to atmospheric use only...) The anti-ship "missiles" makes a bit more sense, in respect to stealthy attacks in space... but it's still a bit of a stretch. Must... find... more... time to finish the GU-11D. Me likes the exchangeable magazine. But... there's no indication that the VF-1X/P FAST packs carry additional ones. So... if magazine means faster turnaround time in the hanger but less bullets per magazine... kinda sucky. -

Thanks EDIT: due to that, google-foo resulted in this piece of clarifying awesomeness: http://www.joebaugher.com/navy_serials/navyserials.html -

Finished the VF-1P Freya Valkyrie description. Shades of the VF-19P??? Anyhow, question for y'all: what does Bu. Number (or Bu.No.) mean? My google-foo isn't turning up anything close to describing what it is. Just giving the impression that it's a fighter's serial number. >.< -

http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2668.msg41587#msg41587 Posted what I've got done on the Sleipner Project and the VF-1X. Hopefully be able to finish the last section tomorrow, and start work on the VF-1P. The stuff on the VF-4 wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Instead of saying the VF-4 doesn't transform (like I think the first VFMF:VF-1 book says), this one states basically that even though the VF-4 has a transformation mechanism, it doesn't work. -
Newtype Ace Vol 001 is out. The Macross the First content is... underwhelming. Not surprisingly, a large chunk of it is a story digest to get (new) readers up to speed. Interestingly, the new stuff... [Not sure if it needs spoiler quotes, but just in case] It appears (and this is just skim reading it) that we're going to get the "Mars Chapter" starting from next issue. Me thinks that we'll get the stuff from the last issue of Macross Ace reprinted before we get new stuff... GOOD NEWS is that there's a colour section on Macross news. It's no where near the same scope or extent as in Macross Ace, but it's nice nonetheless. It's broken into: Macross Ace Plus (hybrid pack) Macross Goods Express (models, helmet, cosplay goods) Macross News (keitai straps, Fever Macross Frontier)

The movie has new footage, and changes the sequence to something much more dramatic, and in many ways, increases the scope of Guld's sacrifice.

Hmm... way back when, I was following the Robotech comics, but STOPPED when Antarctic Press got the license from Academy Comics. Truly nasty stuff... not only did they do the artistic faux pas of copy/pasting the lineart, they completely butchered characterization! Captain Global cooking? Yee-gawds!

I suggest you rewatch the final swordfight between Darth Mall and Obi-wan. It's truly the only swordfight in the series that's at the level the Jedi are described as being at.

Who said anything about disliking Silvi? It's Hibiki. As a REPORTER. Doing illogical stuff for his occupation. Silvi gets the short stick because the script requires her to. I'm sure with a different main protagonist, she would've ended up doing a lot more cool stuff.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1
sketchley replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
Blows dust off topic. Got around to translating the descriptions of the VF-1D, 1G and 1N. Not much to get excited about, but I like that we get some hard data on the VEFR-1... er, VF-1G's radome's capabilities. As much as I don't like the gross mis-assumptions and bold errors present in the VFMF:VF-19 and VF-25 books, I think the 2 VFMF:VF-1 books have quite a bit more relevancy. Though, there are still the occasional oddities... such as the tendency to try and incorporate everything into a unified model progression; especially when previous sources deliberately didn't. For example: The VF-1G is so obviously the VEFR-1. Why the name change? Especially with VFMF:VF-1 stating that only a few were made? Why the VF-1N? Especially because the description confusingly includes the previously published J+ and S+? Why not continue to refer to it as the Half-S VF-1 update? At least the VF-1D is unchanged, and it's praiseworthy for actually providing a logical reason why it is only seen at the start of SDFM, and never again. -
New Star Trek series in the works?
sketchley replied to Zor Primus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Interesting. Not exactly the direction I would've foreseen the franchise going. BUT, it has some definite pluses: builds on existing canon with actual, genuine progress/change, and plenty of sources of drama. -
This.

I don't speak for anyone but myself herein: Macross II has it's good points and bad points (don't feel like making a list, but one of the good things is an unanticipated use of the wrecked Zentraadi ships). But, it's biggest flaw is that, ultimately, it's just a retelling of DYRL with a reporter protagonist who really shouldn't be the main character and doing the things he does. In the end, aside from a plot and plotting slightly on the "could've been better" side, if the show had spent more time invested in its characters (both pre-production development and in-story character development), it could've been better (Ie start by making the main protagonist a combat pilot, and not a reporter in a Valkyrie.)

Nice find. One of those obvious things that has been staring you in the face all along. >.< Macross Chronicle uses the official/final head lineart - BUT it's only the previously seen battroid picture cropped to show just the head. Perhaps no lineart exists as it might have been something came up at the spur of the moment during CG modelling?
-
If memory serves, the kit was based on a non-transforming, fighter-mode only model, and the battroid was scratch built using modified molds of the major components.

Translated a bit of the Neo-Guraaji (Gluag) last night, and surprise surprise, the writers appear to have mixed the Variable Guraaji with the Neo Guraaji. (The VG being manned (either macron or micron pilots) and the NG being unmanned.) The use of the VG's design in the scratch build should've been a clue...

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
sketchley replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
The Gunships? They're both. Capable of independent (fold) navigation and firing, but require the Battle class's power supply for the truly devastating shots. -
Groovy. My 5 year old son was drooling at it. Anyhow, my one complaint about it is that whenever the background ships are destroyed, they just stop. Period. Loose all forward momentum. Don't get shoved in the direction opposite the side they get hit.
